Scotty your answer to how aboriginal people cooked abalone or anything in a shell they just threw it in whole on the hot coals bro..even your fish just throw it on the coals then dust it off with a branch with a few leaves on it..we also use earth ovens as well, bury our food in the ground with the fire on top.

Hey mate another stunning video. That snail looking thing we call it "ariri" in the Cook Islands, to make it easier to take out of the shell we just chuck it in the coals and let it cook for a bit and just use your knife to get it out just how you were doing it and with a bit of lemon mind blowing. Just a tip for next time I guess. Keep the videos coming Scotty.

Agree with most above. On the fish. You caught what we called ‘rock cod’ as a boy. We ate the happily (1960s). Rock cale are a vegetarian fish which torment the blackfisherman. They have a smaller mouth and are genuinely inedible. Love your expeditions.

We used to do this down at snake bay as young teens. Though we took spear guns. Didn't eat as much salad from the shore as you did. We had no idea you could eat all of those plants that you pointed out.

The pigface plant we call karkalla down south here. The leaves and flowers are also, edible as well as the fruit, but very salty. If you can find small sea snails like periwinkles on the rocks you can get by if you find enough of them. Between high and low tide. Eels will take a bait too, but they aren't the tastiest seafood. Top video mate.

G'day, Scotty. Thanks for another great video. Regarding the Scotch Thistle, I watched another youtube video where a lady used the purple flower simmered in water to curdle milk to make cheese. I have never tried it but it definitely looked interesting. With the lomandra longifolia instead of pulling out one leaf pull out a bunch. You will notice the leaves grow in little bunches or clusters, and if you pull out a bunch the undifferentiated leaf mass at the base will give you more food. Some of the sweetest tastiest water I have ever had always comes from a dripping rock face. Funny that. Best wishes mate, keep on keeping on.

Could you recommend some sources to study edible plants along the QLD coast by chance ? Or even some of your fav books would be great. Love your content mate ! Big ups from Mackay and Whitsundays Also I’ll give you a few hand line tips as I have fished commercially using hand lines Your cast is great, once you have enough line out put the reel down at your feet and hold the line out with your dominant hand resting it in the crease of your index finger. As you feel the bites gently and I mean gently lift the line, you will feel a take and the line will go tight. Now lift the line not too fast but keep consistent pressure as you lift, do not let the pressure off at any point. Use both hands to retrieve the fish and if you chase big fish wear finger stalls. All the best.
