Hi Back in the late 60s, I caught my first ever trout from that stream. I'm a Brit but we lived in Australia for 5 years when I was a child. We stayed in the old lodge at the now defunct ski slope at Mt Buffalo. I think the lodge eventually burned down. An old boy also staying at the lodge showed us how to catch moths the night before and then use them to catch the little trout along the stretch you show. I became an avid fly Fisher for life. Thanks for the video. Also, I think the little pond at the car park adjacent to the ski slope is where the lodge used to be. Back in the day it was stacked with large trout. Probably no more!
@robbiefishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks Phil. I learned to ski at that lodge in the 1980s. It was called Tatra Inn back then. I remember the big deep pool with the big trout in it too. I can't see why it wouldn't still be there.
@philipbodie9883 Жыл бұрын
@robbiefishing the pool was overlooked by the Lodge. The Old fellow we met at supper on the first night took my brother and me out on to the balcony, he reached up and caught a moth fussing around a light. He then said, 'watch this', and having lightly stunned the moth, let it drop onto the black pool below. The moth's efforts were highlighted by the light but in seconds, it was taken by a large trout. Steve and I looked at each other and that was it...we were fishermen.

With all the fires and ash that impacted our high country streams over recent years, how good is it to see such a solid recovery from both the streams and the fish. Pristine country up there and obviously there is a healthy balance between visitors and wilderness. Haven’t been up there for a couple of years, great vid, loved it. Thanks for sharing Love your work Healthy habits

Hey Robbie is there a reason the trout are so small up in the mountains?
@robbiefishing2 жыл бұрын
Hi Liam, my guess would be because of a few things: *Too many inna small spot and not enough food to share around. *Because it's such a small waterway *Not a lot of food for a large part of the year when it is cold. I'm not certain that is all correct but thats my guess.
@damo.772 жыл бұрын
Small water equals small fish, like when you put a goldfish in a small tank, will only grow to the size of their environment.
@benmazzone26502 жыл бұрын
Beautiful spot Robbie! Quick question mate, do you think the size of the stream contributes to the trout's growth? Secondly, the have to have parents, is there a part where that stream breaks into a big body of water? Would be good to see you up there again catching some 6-8 pounders 👍
@robbiefishing2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, no it's all small up there mate. It flows down into a bigger video of water but the trout can't migrate upstream because of very large waterfalls. I think the size is due to the small waterway, lack of food in the cooler months and the fact that there are so many fish in there.
