When I was single I fished every weekend for years. where the Deschutes empty's into the Columbia their is a Green Island. Between Green and Miller Island their is a channel it starts at 25ft deep then falls to 70ft I anchor at the 25 foot with enough rope to drift over the 70 foot. I back bounce using a 4 to6 oz weight and 0/6 barbless J hook Fresh frozen squid from safeway for bait. You need rubber thread to keep the bait on the EXPOSED hook. The lowest # of white sturgeon was six but that included a 8 footer that jumped out and I had to look UP to see it! The most I ever caught was 36 I had to stop because I couldn't lift my arms. The channel between Miller and WA is fun 50ft deep FLAT purposely dragging anchor and placing my bait in the slipstream I caught a 10fter my boat is only 17ft long! Fun watching all the Salmon fishermen at the mouth of Deschutes fight for a little bitty Salmon. HA!

Those waters are absolutely breath taking. Never seen water that is that blue. I have fished the the Big Thomson in Colorado and several rivers and streams in Austrian alps but never have I seen water like that. Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing. If you ever get a chance try and fish the state of Colorado you need to especially for brook trout. Got my PB brook trout at 11 pounds. In my area the closest you can catch brook trout is the smokie mountains and those fish although wild....if you are lucky you will catch a 8 incher.....thats a trophy in the smokie mountains. Thanks for sharing.

The Canal fish are that big for a reason the canal has large cage salmon farms in it the pellet food from those farms seeps out into the canal and the trout sit under the farm and eat that food which is designed to put weight on fast so the big trout while mostly naturally bred are all artificially fed to those proportions. So they are the Lie Great fun to catch though I have been a few times :)
