Achilles' death is sad, but Agamemnon dying before is priceless and so fucking satisfying.

In the real Iliad novel Agamemnon didnt die in the war, he died when he returned home from his wife because he sacrifised their daughter when they set off for troy. Achilles died in the 7th year of the war. Agamemnon wasnt described as a bad cruel king as in this movie, more like a hero. This movie is a lot different than Homer's Illiad but a great movie.
@dylantennant6594
@dylantennant6594 Жыл бұрын
@@cosmopolitanism6453 Keep in mind, thats only the Illiad, the wider Trojan cannon often shows his true colours much more. Even the greeks hated this guy. In the play Iphiginia, he sacrifices his own daughter to the gods in order to get wind so he can go to war, and in another Homeric peace, The Orestia, Agamennon is killed by his wife Clymenestra (who he only chose a constellastion prize for not getting Hellen or got dumped with after Hellen chose Agamemnon) with an axe in his bath after he brought home Cassandra, the sister of Hector and Paris who could see the future but was cursed so nobody would believe her. Agamemnon was always a prick thats what I'm saying.

@@dylantennant6594Yeah, but in the version of Ilaid that I have it said that his sacrifice of Iphigenia had failed. That the goddess of the Hunt (and later on the moon), Artemis, had save the poor girl from her father and Iphigenia had become her priestess. They were still able get wind because Iphigenia was accepted by Artemis, but she still live.

This was the only part of the movie that dissatisfied me: that Achilles, the greatest warrior of the age, died at the hands of a contemptible little coward who knowingly led his city into war with Greece which cost the lives of thousands of his fellow Trojans, and no doubt saw the survivors sold into slavery, as well as ending the existence of his city-state itself, all because he put his own happiness ahead of any other consideration. He knew what the cost of stealing Helen away from Menelaus would be, and he did it anyway, because he put himself first. He knew well what he had done, which is why he offered to face Menelaus in single combat, even though he knew deep down it wasn't a fight he could win. But when the time came to buy Troy's survival at the cost of his own life, _he put himself first again._ He fled when Menelaus was about to finish him. Hector had to step in and save him, and the war went on, ultimately costing Hector his life, Priam his life, and nearly all the remaining Trojans either their lives or their freedom. That this despicable, selfish, yellow, piece of crap survives and gets the happy ending with his girl bugs me to no end. On the other hand, that does rather realistically reflect the injustice of the real world, so there's that.

Yeah, wtf are you talking about? lol... Dude merced a shitload of people to kick things off. Then he killed at least 3 people on his way to rescue the girl, if not more? There's the guard on the wall (he slices one dude's head off and then tells the other guy to gtfo Troy), then he kills the two guards at the end. He might've killed some more people right after he got out of the horse, I forget. It's been a long time since I've seen the movie. Plus dude kills Hector and brutally drags his corpse around the city walls. He was definitely more chill at the end, and he was mainly focused on saving that broad, but he still didn't hesitate to light people up. He may have even killed Paris, if he could have. Kinda wish he did bc that dude was a pussy anyway.

Paris is the worst villain to ever exist, he took Helen as a trophy, and was like “I love her” from being a couple of hours with her, and what’s worse is that he killed Achilles in anger for his brother’s death, when he himself caused hectors death, also wished Paris would’ve died in the movie, he killed the greatest warrior in existence, as a coward, and from behind

Yeah, but in some point it resembles what happens in real life. Not all bad guys receive their punishment while alive and the good guys die. However, given the circumstances of the film, maybe the other citizens of Troy would kill Paris because of what happened and at the end they would give the position of King to Eneas and finally have peace untill they become the Roman Empire.

Nobody is talking about the part where Briseis kills Agamemnon. I think this was arguably the best part of the whole movie. I remember watching this movie back in high school, which was a same-sex boys school. So of course, we were all pretty facetious when it came to anything which alluded to female empowerment. But we all recognised that Briseis was a very strong character throughout and written very well, so when we saw her stab Agamemnon, it was as though the roof fell in. We were all going bananas, whooping, yelling and applauding. What a scene, what a moment.

I might be reading to deep into this but after the first shot to the heel you see Achilles realize his own mortality more than ever woth his face nearly in disbelif he could ever be struck. Then the second he turns around you see his rage in his eyes the rage that would slaughter hundreds just by his hand alone for daring to strike the mighty Achilles. The same rage that avenged his cousin and nearly caused him to forsake the war. Then with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th arrow you see him go from the Lion of the war to a man who realized his end was near. Which I feel is just so poetic for his character, the rage of Achilles that typically would win him any battle and did proves useless and when he cannot call upon it to save him he accept his fate willingly and accepts peace even in death.
@knight4883
@knight4883 9 ай бұрын
I think what is also poetic is the fact that when Greek soldiers arrive, they see Achilles die with an arrow to the heel. They don't see any other arrows to his body, which coincides with Greek mythology of how Achilles was invulnerable except for his heel.

This has probably already been said before, but I like to think that Achilles didn’t die here. The gods raised him up, and let him live on to become a tank commander in WWII, a leader of a Jewish-American commando team in an alternate-history version of WWII, before eventually retiring, starting a family, and then helping to find a way to combat a worldwide zombie plague. As for King Priam, he went on to become a well-known food critic amongst the French cuisine community.

I understand everyone resenting Paris throughout the whole movie and mostly in this scene BUT, when it came to death especially back then, it wasn’t pretty. Most people hating on Paris for running from Menalaus would have cowered away in the same fashion especially at that age. In this scene he redeemed himself by 1. Defending his kingdom like his Father and Brother would do even in defeat. 2. Slaying Achilles, an enemy invader who was the Best Greek Warrior 3. Avenging his Brother Hector for the unruly killing and desecration of his body. THAT is the biggest most important reason. Like did you all expect him to just let Achilles live after spotting him? That would make him a coward as well so he did what was better!

If u remembered than achilles cried after killing hector ...and he was compelled to do so ..in war u have two option either to die or to kill what will u choose ...ofc to kill ...he did same but he always hated such life ...on the other hand he always treated brises perfectly though she was war price and i dont think anyone in history had treated war price with such respect and gave title of wife and intented to make bride ..he was somewhere kind hearted but being a man and living in those condition, made him to put such cruel face ...yes ,if you are talking about killing brises family ..so didnt paris stole someones wife ..he was asked to return her ..he denied ,so only one way was there to get helen back that was war...and paris was only one to cause war . .not achilles he just join as he was a source of motivation for army and wanted to join cause his mum wanted .. Achilles was great not a coward like paris

Nah Achilles and Patroclus if you read the actual mythology and the Illiad BUT I’LL SPARE YOU THE ABSOLUTE MONSTER OF THE BOOK Achilles had a lover (Soulmate, Boyfriend however you wanna put it) named Patroclus. Once Patroclus died wearing Achilles’s armor Achilles went on a killing rampage killing 10,000 Trojans and fighting a sea goddess all to avenge his death. After Patroclus got cremated and put in an urn Achilles’s one wish was to have his ashes mixed with Patroclus.
@bimboblackening

Oh btw they weren’t ✨cousins✨ that’s only in the movie because at that time homosexuality was a big no-no for Hollywood that or because of the ingrained thought that “Achilles was MANLY so he’s not gay” which ISNT true, just because Achilles is “Aristos Achaion” (meaning: The best of all the Greeks) has nothing to do with who he loves and-or his sexuality
@samara7509
@samara7509 3 жыл бұрын
@@bimboblackening I know they are homosexual lovers. Greek philosophers refer to history as "one soul living in two bodies," and I have read of their spiritual love. But I made that comment according to the movie! I think briseis and Achilles' love story is very strong. Achilles fought against his king for his innocent girlfriend briseis ❤ Briseis and achilles are lovely but their love's end is soo sad😥

Haha woah the underlining meaning of the movie went so over your head. It’s literally said by hector in the movie, “this isn’t about love this is about power.” Helen and Paris should never have happened but let not forget it was mens greed and ego that started that war. Paris wanted Helen to come to Troy with him. Agamemnon and his brother were the ones who sacrificed countless soldiers lives in the name on their embarrassment and greed for more power. This movie isn’t about picking the right woman, it’s about the continuous cycle of violence and the men who puppeteer it.
