This video shows you how to install a lower control arm on your 1994-2004 Chevrolet S10. Control arms are a crucial part of the suspension system of your vehicle. They not only carry the load of the vehicle to the wheel, but they typically also maintain its alignment. Control arms are typically large and strong, so you may be surprised it needs replacing. They contain rubber bushings for smoother rides at the cost of eventual wear, or integrated ball joints that require replacing the entire arm when they wear.
This process should be similar on the following vehicles:

This is the 2WD version for those wondering. The 4WD version does not have coil springs to compress. Instead, it has a torsion bar you have to unload.

This is the route I'll be taking now because I tried pressing my lower ball joints out for 4 hours and finally gave up and returned the pressing kit. Buy the lower control arms and replace the shocks while I'm at it. Great video.

I have been working for two days trying to figure out how to separate the spring from the lower control arm, which just a little force with a crowbar. You explained and showed it very well in this video. Thank you.

How did you finally get lower control arm in place with spring tension being so high? Did you strap the vehicle to the lift so it wouldn’t lift off? Or did you purely using a ratchet strap + the high reach jack stand?

well i guess my end links are loose because i surely dont have mine cranked down like yours hmm,cool,i replaced my lower control arm,it was bad the front end had been in a fender bender before who knows how bad but the lower control arm bushings were bad the metal was bent,the tube bushing inside the rubber it was pushed up against the control arm to the point the arm was peeled back some,i was like wow,that really needed changing,i put the floor jack under the edge on each side and slowly raised it up and the bad one went up and down,plus it squeaked when i would get in and out of my blazer,2005.rwd so great video,i mean ive did the lowering kit on it but never changed the control arm,i did on a tbss and that sucked bad omg.

I used the same method, and included an inside the spring spring compressor to actually seat it

One question, teacher, the spring coil, it has a rubber coil spring in the upper and lower part???

Why not use a spring compressor? It would have been a lot easier to install.

This must be a 2.2, the spring without something to compress it simply does not fit back into the truck that easily. At least it surely doesn’t on any 4.3 truck I’ve ever done. You’ll flip the truck off the lift before you get the spring where it lives.
