The idea is that pronouncing God's name "profanes" it, or undermines His divine attributes, because there's nothing like God, and words don't do Him justice. If they're forbidden from speaking Hebrew (idk anything about that), probably for the same reason, but it might have more to do with the fact that the original Biblical Hebrew, as spoken by Moses, is a dead language.

Israel is the holy land promised to the jewish people directly from g-d, however the talmud does say in tractate kesubos 111 that during exile we are not allowed to re-capture the land. Only when the messiah comes and builds the 3rd temple are we supposed to go back, and create a society governed by torah law. There is another statement in the talmud berachot 8a that the only place g-d has during this exile is the place where a man studies the torah.

If this period in history is post second temple era than seemingly it would be forbidden in any capacity for jews as a nation to establish a country until the arrvial of the moshiach (Messiah).

@@matisyahup613 I've not read much of the talmud but my understanding is that much of it goes, 'Rabbi such-and -such said...' and 'Rabbi so-and-so said...' 'however our sages conclude...' I take it that the prohibition on creating a state would be the latter ie a final conclusion then? If so how do other pious rabbis get around that. Apparently Schlomo Goren chief rabbi of israel although he denied he'd ever called for the destruction of the al-aqsa nevertheless said 'certainly we should have done it and it was a tragedy we didn't'.

@stephenglasse2743 Correct, the talmud is the arguments and logic behind the laws of the Torah. Not every statement is the law. There is another text called the shulchan aruch which is the clear cut laws an observant person must follow. What I quoted in kesubos could be open for debate, however, there is a clear cut halacha (law) that one may not enter the temple mount before the messiah comes. This is not open for debate. Basically even most of the ultra - orthodox who settled in Israel hold by anti-government policies and they openly reject the secular culture of most israelis. This topic is very complex and most will never see eye to eye on it.

Do you think his 'admission' , if one can call it that, around the 49 minutes mark that Ultra-orthodox presence in the government could bring the government down is in fact a flaw in his argument? If the Ultra-orthodox have such power not only in Israel but in the government can it really be said Zionism is completely antithetical , hostile, poisonous to Judaism? He also seems to think one can replace the modern state of Israel with any other and Peled seems to think that one needs a secular Palestine from 'the river to the sea' with equal rights for arabs and jews. But surely neither hamas, islamic jihad or, indeed the c45% of Gazans who voted for hamas or the c65% of palestinians who regard oct 7 as 'legitimate resistance' would tolerate a state with arab-Jew equality. Wasn't the only reason Arabs and jews got on pre-1918 because the arabs/muslims had 'superiority' in the Ottoman empire and the Jews were willing to, as Benny Morris puts it be "submissive ..and deferential"?
