In today’s video, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on why I believe truck drivers with at least 2yrs driving experience with a clean driving record can command a salary of at least 80k a year gross. What are your thoughts?

I know some fuel haulers & food service drivers who made over 100k their first year so it’s possible. Most tanker/fuel hauling jobs require at least 1yr of driving experience with the proper endorsements.

Everything you mentioned about the grass not always being greener on the other side is exactly my problem. I’ve been with the mega i work for now 12 years and have 16 years driving experience. I’m out of Toronto and it’s tough finding anything over $25-27 a hr . Martin Brower is hiring but i’m not sure if i want to give up my life for a good pay check . Ie on call 24-7 and no life . I was thinking about tim hortons but then you read the reviews and it’s scares you from applying. Everytime i find a decent paying company either the online reviews suck or you have no work life balance. $60k a year iam getting is becoming harder and harder to live on . i have it pretty good here mon-friday no one hassles me and i can call in sick whenever i want

I made 138k last year hauling HCl and Caustic but I've been driving for 24 years. It's a pretty nice gig and I go home just about every night, sometimes I sleep out on the road

One thing to consider is the TYPE of trucking experience a person has. A driver may have 10 years of driving a normal semi trailer but zero flatbed experience, whereas another driver may only have 3 years driving experience but has done one year of hauling flatbed. If both those drivers apply to a company hauling flatbed, the driver that has pulled flatbeds will likely get the job. Same with hazmat. A driver that’s at least pulled tankers before (like milk) will probably get hired on to haul fuel before a driver that’s never hauled tanker or hazmat, even if that driver has more driving experience overall.

Otr teaches you things money cant buy. It gets u out of your confort box. It makes learn how to drive in different parts of the country. Teaches u how to route coast to coast. Teaches u truckstop etiquette such as parking in tight situations and believe or not fueling etiquette. Some folks dont know how to pull up at a fuel island. U learn about yourself away from family and friends. How to handle decisions on your own . Learn how to problem solve. Learn how to live away from home. We have people quit jobs because they cant sleep in a truck! The money making is a by product of these learning experiences.

I would suggest anyone here to look up class b bus driver positions if they live near a big city. They usually have decent pay with seniority and a good union. I recently started at a bus driver job in SoCal and they start at $23 per hour with $2.5 per hour raises every six months going up to 40 after 3.5 years. There’s a guaranteed 40 hours as well you can work OT if you want to but it seems like if you want to just work 40 hours a week they’re fine with that too. There’s someone at the union who made $110,000 at a pay rate of $30 per hour so the OT is there if you’re looking for it.

GEMS 💎! I know guys who can’t afford to miss a day because of finances and/or because they’re so close to being terminated because of attendance points. They’ve been looking for another trucking gig but as you stated “it’s still a very competitive market” so they haven’t had much luck on grabbing a new opportunity or the pay is much less than what they make now. At the end of the day, we got to make smart sound decisions not emotional one.

Plus, the economy is changing at a rapid rate. Employers don't want to play employees regardless of skills and education. Trucking in general is the most pro market industry in this country. This is not the time for us truck drivers to have performance, safety, and attendance issues in any company.

Too many truckers taking low wages we all need to unite and stand up we should be able to retire with pride dignity take care of our families. Minimum wage for local should be 125k gross otr 200k gross I'm not just saying it because I'm a trucker . Its a lot of stress on your health body time away from home crazy hours responsibility is crazy anything goes wrong its on the driver there's a reason why we have the lowest life expectancy . Most local jobs pay anywhere from 25 to 34 ph so to make 80k you need to work about 50 hour weeks at 30 ph.
