the idea of sitting in a seat and getting paid for it sounds really good right about now. My plan is to do a school in my area.....and do it long enough just to get experience for a local truck A/B delivery job. Does that sound like a good plan? Guy mentioned photography...…..that's a great hobby. You can take pics with your phone and they can look good but nothing beats a good Canon Powershot. The older models like SX 160 IS still have the fish eye lens. The phones don't capture the color and contrast like a good camera. Also you can listen to the podcast for shows like Radiolab and Onpointradio. Someone showed me how to subscribe to these recently on my I-Phone and the shows update automatically along with all the past shows.

Since this post. I've merged 2 trucking companies. Which later separated. Then i kept contact with all the drivers i hired during the merger and found them jobs for carriers whom i have good relations with and am now dispatching for them with over 5 carriers supplying me with 20 plus trucks.

That was interesting. I was a photographer coming out of college. Photography is a crazy good way to occupy your time. I went through the whole gamut of doing portrait photography to close up natural photography. Then I started doing it for money. That’s when from fun serious because people want flawless pictures. But, one thing I noticed is that when I went professional, all the pros had Nilkons while I was shooting with a Cannon A1 and of course we were doing film not digital. That camera will make you money if you stay with. I’d do anything to ride with you shooting pictures of the country.

I like where your state of mind is now bro Keep giving the jiblettes out much appreciated. You so right on point at first everything in trucking is a challenge but after you get seasoned it becomes kind of easy. I've learned so much from KZbin it's amazing. Just wanted to thank you for bringing your perspective on your experiences. Salute

I drove for 15 years and got better at it than I expected to. He said a hobby. Toward the end I finally took one of my bicycles (no motor) in the truck with me and had quite an experience aside from the jacking, backing and shifting. It was a great release. i never retained stress and laughed at traffic jams while other drivers were cussing on the CB. And oh my God, the GEORGE WASHINGTON...guys didn't even WANT to go to Manhattan ! I fared well. I'm watching this because I'm about to go back to work...yes...that's right. I just want to do it for a few years...one more time in my lifetime. My life is short...I'm 66. Retirement is nice, but I want ONE MORE SLICE ! (that's a rhyme)...see you on the blacktop .................

Best advice for truckers ever….Driving becomes second nature. Truckers have nothing but time to think when driving. Fill that mind. On the 10 hour break, get out of that truck and find some cool things around you. Staying in a truck 20 hours a day causes depression. Make use of breaks. Make use of driving time. Podcasts on literally anything are free and available on the podcast app. Set it to play episode after episode, and fill that mind while your driving.

True. During the 10 hour, there's only 2 hours of non-sleeper berth time. This time is important. Good advice! Must develop a hobby. Or hard science education. Tip: If you have a family, or something important relationship, OTR will irreversibly harm your life permanently. Advice: get out of OTR.

I want my CDL A for local work around me (live near mountains 100s of gravel companies come and hire). Only problem is they want someone with at least a year or experience.... how much damage would you say a year-2 years can do? I have a gf and a daughter at home.
