just done a job in scotland, not got much reversing experience, the 2 people banking me in we're both seasoned drivers, had to back into a warehouse, through a door with 3 inch room at either side, on my blindside, in a tight car park. the younger one was getting frustrated, throwing his arms about at me, the older guy told me to tell the younger guy to go fuck himself and take all the time i needed 😂 sometimes just need to take a deep breath and get out and take another look at things. great video again btw mate👍

Remember if you find yourself in an urban rear steer. you will need even less steering input. And if you lose it, start again if you don't have the room to straighten up. Which you probably wont if your in an urban!

New driver passing my Class 1 6 months ago and now working for an agency, so I do not get to drive Class 1 often, and when I do it is the manoeuvring that stresses me. However, I must say that I have found everyone helpful and willing to offer advice, which is all gratefully received. Watching your KZbin channel over the last year has also been very helpful from making the decision to try HGV driving through to information on how to practically carry it out. It is becoming a bit easier but I have a long way to go to become comfortable with the responsibility of driving a HGV. Great video mate. I've got nearly 2 years under my belt now and I agree reversing is hard when you're new. Sometimes it's still tricky for me at times. The oversteering is a biggy, I was guilty of that. Same with feeling pressured and the moment you begin to get rattled it's going to get a thousand times worse. I totally agree with slower is better, forget anyone else (traffic etc), always remember GOAL (get out and look), and never be afraid to ask someone to watch you back. One thing I used to do was go into work half an hour early so I could stop at a quiet industrial estate on the way to my trailer swap and practice a few reverses around corners each night when nobody is around. If you can find a quiet spot just do it guys, it's all about practice :)

@@truckitprayle I'm on agency doing trunking, trailer swaps, often deliveries with a reload fairly close by. Mostly curtainsiders. Done flatbeds too, fridge loads, double decks, and a few containers out of Port Of Blyth. When I started driving class 1 I often tried to get more reversing practice. For example when was coming back to yard I was picking spots between 2 trailers, then another one, then another one with less space in front. Another step was picking spots between 2 lorrys on truck stops. Focus on what was correct and what was wrong. That will help in future. Obviously do not rush. If not sure go outside and look. It's better to get outside 5 times than hit another truck 1 time. Nothing wrong with couple of shunts. As I can see 8/10 drivers take one or more shunts even when there's plenty of space.
@truckitprayle

I took up to 15 attempts reversing on to a bay and was more worried about that forgot to open doors...😂..then i was doing a walking floor trailer where there's sensors and you need to be at the right speed dead straight and the trail bar went up a small ramp to keep her level when loading 96 x 200 litres barrels of whiskey..only been driving 3 months again about 10 shunts..once loaded drove it 45 mins to warehouse on the most narrowest twisting road here in Ireland...I now do motorway tankers and as someone else said Don't go for the easy parking spot i always back between two tankers...in the 2.5 yrs i say did it in 1 about 3 times..take as many as you need...take your time ...if in doubt get out even 10 times...as pointed out small steering movements...found looking out window really F%%ked me up at first and of course steering the opposite way to move trailer...the way i was taught is place your hands at the bottom of steering wheel lift your right hand/left hand will go in that direction...I was asked the other day by a 4 day old driver how long it takes i said 6 months but your still learning even if driving 30 years...Best of luck to all.

Another great video. Just to add regarding employers claiming the cost of any damage from the employee. In the UK, this can only be done if there is a contract in place which expressly states how much deductions can be made for damage or to cover the cost of the insurance excess and it must be signed by both parties. Without such a contract, any deduction from your pay for damage would be unlawful but you are right, many employers still do it without agreement. If there was such a contract in place, there is nothing preventing the employee from having their own insurance policy in place to cover any excess claim by the employer. Here in Oz, such a practice is completely unlawful and I was actually in court myself a couple of years ago on a different employment matter and listening to the other cases before mine. In less than 5 minutes, the Judge heard and upheld a claim by an employee for unlawful deductions from his pay for vehicle damage. The Judge turned to the respondent (the employer), and advised him that if they are employed by the business then in good and in bad, this has to be a cost covered by the business and is what you have insurance for including paying extra for a lower excess.

The problem with training companys in they train you to get a licence ? and Not how to drive a commercial vehicle ? Thats was spot on how to reverse a vehicle Let the vehicle do the work, When you get good you can position the steering wheel to go back in the right position before you stop going forward this will make it that much easier, Select reverse glid it in, Two many people wind the steering then stop.

Yeah, i get alot of people say that they wont do there test because they don't feel confident enough with the amount of training you get on reversing.

Nice video. I'd like to see how a blindside reverse is done. I am thinking of going for my class 1 next year and the blindside reverse is putting me off a bit. And when you are driving around forwards how do you know when you need to take up two lanes?

Well thats a good point and i was actually thinking of doing a vidro about defence driving so i will try make something on that in the near future. I do have a blind side on my channel but i don't really go into to much depth so i will also do another one of them.

Thanks for replying. Another thing right.. Is lorry driving as lonely and stressful as people think it is? And do you have any tips for dealing with the stress?

When i first started i found it hard, but as i gained friends in the industry i started talking alot on the phone to them, and the great thing about nowadays is that theres so many good podcast and audio books to listen to. And when you are waiting to be tipped or on break you can always watch my videos hahaha 😆

Very good instruction on how it's done.Retired now but noticed last 15 yrs drivers don't get out and help fellow driver ( which we are ) reverse into tight spaces.Equipment was crap then but the drivers looked out for each other.So welcome newbies to a world where they will sit in their cab an watch you hit something.Knowing once they were like you.Wankers

Hey prayle, explain me 1 thing. As agency driver if I stay with agency working for the same company for 3 months after that 3 months company can make me contract? Or i should not work 3 months with the company and after absence of 3 months return back to the firm and start work? Think agency is dodgy because says must stay 3 months away from the loved company to get contract with them. As far as I know can work 3 months with agency then leave them and stay employed. Government says if make 12 weeks as agency worker in acompany have same rights like them thats mean is the right to be employed too? Bye
