Had a palisade for two years 80k miles as company car, not a single issue, towed a 5000k camper over 10k miles. Now I got a Subaru, the ride (comfort, handling) in the Subaru is so much better and the low rpm torque is incredible! The price is also much better. Gas mileage is not as good as the Hyundai but I think boxers need a little bit until they are broke in. We use it with 7 kids, yes 7 the Subaru has more space where it matters, the widest third row in the segment, I test drove and seat all suvs in that segment

Good video, I hope you will do an of road comparison between them. We own a 2022 Ascent, and it's a great vehicle. The third row seats are always stowed in because they are pretty useless to us. But it has plenty of cargo room. Also, the 2022 model has lots of buttons, which we prefer. The fuel economy is decent, it is a small 4 cylinder engine powering a three row cuv. At low speeds, the fuel economy is great. On the highway the engine has to work harder which means burning more fuel.

Neither one, being a driving enthusiast I just can’t do a CVT/ECVT or ANY CVT, sorry just can’t do it. The reliability issues with the Hyundai/Kia is a no go there also. I had 2 Hyundai’s in the past and both needed trannys before 80K miles. Yes they were covered by the 100K warranty but they did everything possible to deny the claims, I had to produce ALL the maintenance records that they scrutinized. I had problems because I changed the fluids myself which Hyundai didn’t understand even though I had the receipts. In the end they covered the trannys but I had to jump through hoops. All brands have negatives and positives, I guess it all depends where you want to put your hard earned money, great review as always !!!!

@@lawdog516so many people complain about CVTs and I get it there are a lot of not so great ones out there but Subaru has been making CVTs since the 70’s. I’ve got 95K miles on my Outback 3.6r and I have no complaints about the CVT. If you accelerate like a normal person there’s no jerky sensation of a geared automatic when it’s shifting gears. If you hit the throttle hard it pretends to have 6 gears for a more conventional feel. Then there is manual mode that allows you to shift though the 6 pretend gears yourself which gives it a DSG feel. But hey it’s easier to just say all CVTs suck I guess instead of actually trying some out.

Subaru. Not even a question. More capable, WAY more reliable, and all at a better price. Everyone I know who owns a Hyundai or Kia loved them…until about 60-80k miles and then the engines would fail, then it was downhill from there. They inundate their cars with shallow creature comforts, but can’t get basic (and far more important) reliability and lifespan. Don’t be duped by that ten year warranty jazz either. Having a long warranty and actually being dependable are not the same thing. When you’re stranded in the middle of nowhere, be sure to remind your Hyundai it has a ten year warranty, maybe it’ll magically start up again and get you home.

I'd go with the Subaru for it's build quality, a superior AWD system, and definitely it's better resale value. Historically Hyundai always served as a "switch" car when a buyer couldn't afford a Toyota or Honda. Sure the brand has tried to lose it's "switch" car image by going upscale but build quality still dogs Hyundai to this day.

When you examine safety ratings, long-term reliability, value (comparing similar features in both vehicles vs. actual cost), resale, ride comfort, owner satisfaction and customer service ratings the Subaru wins hand down, no questions! These features are more important to me than looks. When you consider actual costs and doing considerable research, I discovered that I get more for my money with the Subaru than competitor vehicles. Subarus are consistently rated at the top as the safest vehicle on the road. Subaru is consistently proven to have the best AWD. Don't be fooled by one person's opinion. and possible influence by brand - do your own research and try to compare "apples to apples." Make a list of pros and cons. I believe you will find out, like I discovered, Subaru wins!

I think I only used the 3rd row seat in my 08 Ford Explorer once in the 3 yeas I owned it. Don't need all the seating space, as its usually just myself in the vehicle....occasionally 2-3 passengers, but nothing more. I like the Wilderness model for the added ground clearance and the additional transmission cooler, and lower gear ratio final drive....oh and like a few other models it has the dual X-Mode. Hyundai and Kia might have a higher mile warranty but you wanna get rid of them long before....they're not that great.

My 2 cents. In any modern car, you can use the vehicle's fuel economy number. The computer controls fuel delivery so it knows exactly how much fuel it is using. Doing a manual pump test is not accurate (for example, stop at 2nd click). You would need to meter the exact amount of fuel to ensure you are putting back the premise amount used. You can't do that with the click method as there are far too many variables. I've had a difference of several liters between 2nd clicks filling up my car. It is not scientific at all and isn't needed. Just use the number the car is showing, it is accurate. Since both cars have a similar amount of power and are a similar size and weight, it makes sense their numbers are similar. It doesn't really matter that much what engine configuration they use, you'll burn about 270 hp worth of fuel whether it is a blown 4 or V6. Another bonus for Subaru is resale value. They are always among the top brands for resale value.

If reliability and customer service/honoring warranty claims was considered in this review the Subaru wins by a landslide all day long. The palisade is a beautiful vehicle inside and out but that is all it has going for it. Subaru has the best AWD system in the game and that 2.4 turbo motor is tried and trued. Not to mention your insurance company might not insure your new KIA/Hyundai. This may just be me but if I am going to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a vehicle , I want it to last. And no, I am not a Subaru fanboy, I don't even own a Subaru.

Now if I'm looking for a new SUV then i wouldn't rule out Toyota and Honda either, personally i like the way the new pilot looks on the exterior and not so much the Toyota without stepping up to the Grand(different class though). For all those people dogging the cvt... I can understand that my dad is an old school mechanic but with first hand experience the only cvt i will own is from Subaru, they are built to last that Said the eco boost engine in my Lincoln was amazing and if the explorer aka exploder are using that engine it might be worth looking at too... They own a few shares not the company. Many car companies own shares of other car companies. Doesn't mean they own or have any control over the cars they are building. But it does say that Toyota likes something Subaru is doing
