Don't forget you're running 3.92 gears on the Ram and 3.23 on the GMC. That will make the difference in fuel economy (and tow capacity). I had a Ram with 3.92s and just recently bought one with the 3.21 gearing, both running the 5.7. Noticed a big difference in fuel mileage and I didn't need the huge tow capacity (still does 8000 lbs. though). A proper fuel mileage comparison should have been with a RAM that had the 3.21 in my opinion. I drove a new GMC before I bought the most recent RAM and I still preferred the RAM interior, but that will be more personal preference I think.

Hard pass on both. $85k to $93k is insane. You would need to knock $40k off the price for these things to be affordable for the average buyer. Pickup trucks are becoming a luxury game. At that price point, it's boycott time. You could pretty much rebuild an older truck from the ground up for that kind of money. New engine, new transmission, upholstery, custom cameras and audio. Everything. Buy used, fix it. Great review gents, complete, informative, and entertaining. Depressing as all hell on the prices, but good video.

Pricing on trucks is nuts no doubt, but $40k lower is foolish. Sticker price of $75k on the GMC, $65-70 on the Ram, is realistic. Ram is back to advertising $10,000 off and 2% financing. And if you don’t want a luxury truck don’t buy one lol. A current $60,000 Canadian truck should be more like low 50s, and it’ll have cloth.

WOW … I was not expecting the end fuel mileage result to be like it. I know the price difference is around $7K between the two trucks, but Matt brought up a different perspective at the end of the video by saying that the fuel ⛽️ price difference on this 100 Km test was around $6 cheaper for the GMC. On a monthly basis, the fuel cost difference could be very significant. Something to be aware of if someone is in the market to buy a new truck !!! Great video guys … well done !!!

Interior was absolutely horrible. Even the instrument cluster was literally filling up with dust between the gauges and the faceplate. The engine (5.3L direct injection pos) was garbage. Ran horrible, idled terrible, bad gas mileage. It cost me a small fortune to trade it in on a 2014 Tundra Platinum w/ 100k mi. Its 10x the truck, easily. Keep an affordable previous generation model, with small refreshers To attract a more price conscious buyer. They'll sell this new model later down the road as the classic, And make a ton of sales while their tool and die is long paid for. GMC will be constantly changing to battle with Ford and Toyota . Suggestion if you don't mind. When doing exhaust sound clips, if doing when parked, can you at least let the engine come down from a high idle to normal idle level? Or not do it the moment it starts up. There is a difference in exhaust note once the engine isn't on initial startup. Another nice thing would be if you could somehow film the exhaust sound under load like taking off from a start. Even just going through the 1st gear. They sound much different under load then just free revving in park. It seems very few reviewers do this, and it would be nice way to differentiate yourselves by doing this. 🙂 Great job on the review otherwise.👍

The GM 6.2 requires premium fuel, the Ram 5.7 recommends 89 for optimum performance but can run 87 too. Having owned a 2019 for 4 years now and probably driving the same country spots as you (highway 400, north of Toronto etc), I have zero issues getting > 22 MPG and many times above 24 MPG too. They're both good trucks, at the end of the day (since I'm not brand loyal in the slightest) my decision is based on value; what do you get for what do you pay, and Ram has always offered more for less. GMC pricing is completely bonkers. Also that 50 psi in the ram is way too high no doubt that's the issue as the coil suspension in the ram drives like an SUV and the leaf springs have more of that truck like side-skipping rear-end feel.

The extra psi might be the diff in odomitor reading too.

The 6.2 doesn't require premium fuel. I own one and run 87 in it and it does fine.

@@terryduncan31 You choose to rely on the knock sensors, that's fine, but your engine is going to be knocking and have reduced performance. GM recommends 93. I'd bet you lose 15+ HP by running 87, the nissan titan loses 10 HP by running 87 instead of 91 (they actually tell you the 10 hp loss, not a guess).

Ram has to sound louder so when it gets stuck off roading the recovery crew can find it. GMC won’t have that problem. Super channel guys.👍🇨🇦

The AT4 would be a better comparison vs the Rebel. Neither Ram nor Ford has an AT4X competitor and GM doesn't have a TRX/Raptor competitor, so it's really like apples and oranges trying to compare models when an equivalent doesn't exist. If you add the 6.2L engine and a custom exhaust to a loaded out AT4, then you would be almost exact on pricing with a loaded Rebel GT (maybe even cheaper for the Rebel). The design of the AT4X would be more equal to an offroad version of the Ram 1500 Limited if that existed. The rebel is nice, but it's not at the same level of styling as the Ram 1500 Limited. The AT4X is similar in style and build as the Denali Ultimate, and the Ram 1500 Limited can go to toe to toe against the Denali Ultimate, but there is a significant price premium for the Denali Ultimate over the Limited, so that's a significant consideration.

I have to agree. GM now has the nicest interior followed by Ram and Ford close behind. I have never ever said that about a GM interior. This was grand slam. Now let’s see what they have for some updates V8 they just poured all those millions into the plant.

I was thinking about buying a new truck, but when a 1/2ton cost almost 100k , I think I will rebuild my 2nd gen, I could put 40k into my old truck and smoke ether one of these in every category. Ridiculous

My 2021 Tundra SR5 which is lifted with after market tires from the dealership is more than $30K cheaper than the GMC and $26k cheaper than the Ram. Considering 99% of buyers aren't going to be rock climbing, that is a lot of money to pay for "tech".

Ram really pushed all other truck manufacturers to significantly up their interior quality. Compare a 2020 Ram Rebel interior (with the 12" screen and leather seats) to any other manufacturers truck and the difference is ridiculous. Around 2022/2023 all other manufacturers started putting in much nicer interiors and big infotainment screens.

I think they are both great looking trucks, I also think they are prohibitively expensive, so I wouldn't buy either one of them. However, if you were to let me pick one of the two for free, I would rather have the GMC.

I have a thought on the fuel economy. You said it was cold, -3 C if I remember right. The Ram has a cold air intake so the cold air could make it run rich. I own a 6.2L Raptor with a cold air intake. On a trip I started in Tennessee at about 70 F. I ended the trip in Ohio at about 20 F. The fuel economy at the beginning of the trip was about 17 MPG. At the end it had dropped to 12 MPG. I noticed it start dropping at about 40 F.

The GMC looks nicer but I believe I'd take the F150 Lightning. Just as long as its not going catch fire or get bricked by an Electrify America charger.

the rear end ratio is the culprit.....sometimes the Ram comes close to the tire size but not quite while the GMC is more precise........my Ram is close but not accurate and not all odometers are accurate...and then the tires are not what the size says.... ie.. all 33's are not equal in diameter measurements in different makes and so forth. Between the two scenarios you'll find variances. And the worst is the tire pressure. two tires , same make and size with one pressure of 60psi and the other with 25psi on same vehicle...one complete revolution with both and the 60psi will travel further..try it....
