Use a "ball end" 1/4" Allen wrench on the Schrader valve. Pump a few pumps on the primer on the fuel filter, then give it a half second bleed on the Schrader. If foam comes out, do it all again.

Very helpful, thanks. Just had the WIF sensor start leaking and wasn't sure how to properly prime the filter again. Just had the water separator filter replaced, the old WIF finally gave up as it looked like the OEM bit from 2008. Worn sensor wires too, the leaking fuel likely threw the water sensor alarm due to bare wires, creating the contact. Learning about diesels as I go, appreciate folks like this that share their knowledge taking care of aging rigs. This one was simply a shot o-ring.

Bro you’re an absolute hero. Ran out of diesel on the highway and after filling it up she just wouldn’t start. Didn’t even have my tools with me to bleed the valve, but after about 15 hand pumps or so I went and turned the key and she fired right to life. Thanks!!

You saved my butt from a lot of work. Just did a LLY fass lift pump and stock fuel filter head delete. Got her air locked and was about to put the stock filter head back on to prime. But tried the pocket screw driver on that shrater fitting and got the air out. She then fired right up. Thanks a lot man!

I learned somewhere that the CP4 fails because the steel in some of the parts in it were not cured correctly at the factory... (some super heating they do) and that a lift pump is not the issue nor even necessary.

So you can't crack a line loose on an injector to bleed the high side? Because my sprinter has fuel going to the high side when I put the ignition in the on position. It's only tank fuel pressure there, but it's there nonetheless. Is this right, or is there something wrong with the hpfp? This is a new remanded hp pump

Do you know why this engine blows white smoke after egr intake cleaning ports were almost plugged with sut. Could it be that it is just burning all the all sut now that it breaths or could be egr cooler?

Hey boss, I have a 16 3500HD silverado with the 6.6 DMax. I noticed that when I was priming my engine, diesel was coming up the bleeder valve on the top of the engine. Not the plastic one. I just got the new one but have not put it on. Would the fuel that I see be a indicator that the valve is going out and allowing air to get in the system? I'm have trouble in the cold start with it starting. But once I've ran it it starts right up. Please help. Thanks.

My old buddy randy evans (RIP now) had a Duramax and it run great but then one day started running rough and sometimes stalling and wouldn't start for a few but then one day it wouldn't start at all and I told him I'm no diesel guy but I know it sounded as if it was starving for fuel , and I found that primer bulb myself and primed it a few times and the truck would fire but not continue running long but I did notice that it was leaking pretty heavily around the cylinder shape o ring or something but he passed away so never did get too figure out what fixed it or if that was all that was wrong ?!??

I need help. I changed to the exergy fuel saver on my LML and put it all back together. Now it won’t crank. I have bleed it at both the fuel filter and the fuel test port and still won’t crank. I have a ppe lift pump and and let it run for 20 sec but still nothing. Any suggestions? Could the exergy be bad? Or maybe a blown fuse?

I run a cat filter and changed it yesterday and went to prime as normal yet this time didn't get as hard as it did before as fast and I changed the bleeder screw out as well as old one was If stripped I also filled the fuel filter to the top through the bleater hole 2 After feeling it before I screwed it on My truck started for a brief 2nd and then shut off and now I can't get primer to get hard but when I tracked the bleeder screw every time I pushed the valve down fuel does come out When I push it so I figured that that the primer valve is good but I'm not sure.. I don't know if I can test that that valve like you did in this video this video if I don't have a lift pump or that is just for lift pumps and eany suggestions what I could try

Cranked my truck yesterday, started fine, decided to do a fuel filter head delete because I was dealing with a loss of prime after truck sits for awhile. Looped the bottom hose on the ficm to the top and now cannot get truck to prime and I can’t get fuel or air to come out the shrader valve. Also fass lift pump decides it doesn’t want to come on either after turning engine over even tried to jump the relay, so now I have no way to prime fuel without reinstalling the filter head. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t have a lift pump and I have a problem with cold start,after about 10 seconds my 2003 goes dead then I have to prime this only happens on cold starts or after sitting. I changed filter twice,ordered new primer head installed now no start can’t get primer filter housing to fill.any idea that you or anyone has would be appreciated thanks

I bought a 6.5 Detroit Diesel from auction a few years back... it's archaic compared to a D-Max, especially since mine is mechanical injection. Who ever had it before it, removed the fuel filter + fuel heater assembly and installed an in-line fuel filter that's designed for a lawn mower. I haven't gotten around to replacing the filter assembly with a proper one, just been replacing the lawn mower one every year, but I have to leave the line loose and let the lift pump run for a bit to bleed the air out, even with a return-style fuel system.

I own a 2006 Silverado 2500 LB7 purchased new with only 65 k miles minimum mods (SB air filter, 3’ down pipe with 5’ stacks) im debating should i sell and get a new 2019 6.2 gas Silverado? I very rare pull or haul heavy. Money wise sell & use for down payment and payments should not be a issue. What would you do? 2006 Silverado duramax has never given me an issue, what would be your honest opinion❓Thanks best regards

I don’t have a lift pump I changed out my fuel filter pumped it till it was flowing diesel fuel without bubbles tighten the bleeder screw and my truck seems to struggle on the start up but once it starts up runs normal I did it a second time as far as pumping it all over again to see if it would help and seems to still be struggling on start up to crank immediately

2005 Silverado 3500 LLY, I have trapped air between the primer pump and the Schrader valve, I’m unable to get the fuel to push through to push the air out of the Schrader valve. I have a piece of clear line on there so I can see what’s going on. I have replaced the pump and filter and hoses and clamps. Please help.

I’m willing to bet the fuel filter head is cracked you may need to replace it or it’s your fuel or supply lines running from the top of your engine on the driverside to the fuel cooler

What about when it’s cold and you’re son didn’t put diesel 911 in the tank and did not plug it in truck started and ran for a few minutes, then shut off just cranks now I will not fire. I believe he run fuel out of engine and injectors and fuel line is frozen. What is the best way to tackle this thank you.

I personally would choke the engine like I would a small gas engine. Block the air intake until it starts if the truck is outside in the cold

Take off passenger side fender liner. Find lower radiator hose. Pull out the retaining C clip on end of hose going into radiator. Pull off hose slowly and begin to drain it slowly or youll have a mess. Some guys say the oring in the hose connector doesn't seal again some times so make sure ya got access to one To fill just fill the overflow tank. Turn on truck and continue adding coolant. Rev engine to 1300 or so rpm turn on heater and such. Get truck up to operating temp so t stats open. Continue to add coolant till it stops going down

Follow those instructions & you’ll be set. Here’s a link showing the lower rad. Hose mentioned above. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHqvp4Z5h7SWmJY You can also crack the thermostat bleeder on the housing once you start getting close to full. I like to let it sit overnight and check cold level in the morning. Bring extra coolant if you need to get on the road quick, just in case!

My LLY just started doing this, it starts idles for maybe 20 seconds then just shuts off. First time it happened I tried re-starting twice then primed the fuel system then it started up but not right away. Well it happened again for a second time same scenario just this time I primed the system before restarting, both times this happened I haven’t opened the bleeder. Both times it was parked on a slight incline with front of the truck facing up hill. I did run the truck to about 1/8 of a tank of fuel the first time I encountered this problem but I filled the truck while it was running and didn’t have this issue till I went to restart it later that day. Any idea what might be going on? I’m sure it’s a simple explanation...

Fuel filter housing is bleeding down pressure. Had to replace the housings on both of my duramax. They sell a rebuild kit but it's less than a hundred dollars for the whole housing

I have pumped and bled mine 20+ times it’s still blows air bubbles and foams up all over the top of the bracket like there’s unlimited air. I’ve got to be doing something wrong. I’ve cranked it over 10+ times and it has plenty of fuel up there at the air bleeder

Man I'm in trouble. The water valve on the bottom of my fuel filter failed. My truck just quit. Replaced filter and water valve, pumped it up, pure fuel at bleader screw by pump and pure fuel at that shader valve you talk about. But it won't start. 2013 lml duramax. Please help.

@Terry Humes Yes. Keep pumping up the fuel filter, then release air at the purge valve by the oil filler cap untill pure fuel comes out, no air. Then crank er over till she starts. You may have to step on the fuel peddle while cranking. Ensure ur fuel filter and water sensor are new and in good order
