His comments about the high combustion temps are right, though can say for sure from dealer training that tune is 10000% spraying fuel at the wrong time based on the flower pattern on the rest of the pistons. Should not be out of the bowl like that.

I figured it was a cracked piston. My old 94 Chevy 6.5TD NV4500 did the exact same thing while pulling a 24' enclosed snowmobile trailer up north. I didn't have oil out tailpipe, it was blowing out of every seal. Too much boost and aggressive tune with the compression it had 🤣 long story I rebuilt the whole motor myself and is still on the road to this day.

I'm starting up a hotshot trucking company. I got laid off from my job in agriculture research a couple weeks ago. I'm almost ready to go with documentation and all the legal paperwork and filings, but I've got some work to do to my truck. I'm going to be running my 2004 lb7 dually. It's got 340k on the clock, but it's paid off and insurance is a heck of a lot cheaper on something that old versus something new. I may run it as long as I possibly can with cash stacked for any repairs, or in the case I were to just go out and buy something newer. Before starting, I'm working on replacing all the ball joints on the front end, replacing the factory oil cooler with a banks oil cooler(mine is leaking), adding an EGT gauge, and doing a few things to the rear axle like replacing parking brake shoes, cables, and the related parts. Hope you get those blocks put on the website. Never know when I might need one 😅

this is the best way, rebuilding a used truck makes the truck like new, vs a new truck that can still tear up and be pricy. new dont mean guaranteed not break down.

Great job again. Great collaboration with the guys there. You guys pointed out some good knowledge. I would be curious to see a running talley of the parts and some form of the cost. It's not going to be cheap. Plus, it would be interesting if the customer takes advantage of the rebuild to do some uprades at this point in time. Look into the rest of the drive train even. Buy once cry once... pay me now or pay me later... kind of thing. Overall, it appears to be a good-looking truck. Much cheaper than purchasing a new or perhaps even a new used truck ? That's what would be interesting for your viewers. Some cost comparison, so to speak. Great job.

I have been driving tractor trailer for over 30 yrs. I know that some people have a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel to haul trailers. Quite often you could get a good used class 8 single axle day cab diesel. Such as a FLD Freighliner. And they are under $20,000. They have heavier duty brakes than above mentioned trucks. Or even a medium duty Pete or KW. Such as what Coke and Pepsi use. Especially if you are not going long distance. There are plenty of pre emission Freightliners with Detroits out there.

This sort of stuff scares me to death. Love my LBZ, but I'm terrified that I'm going to have a catastrophic failure. With gas motors, I feel I can take care of it myself. If the owner decides to fix the trailer brake system code.. I’d love to see what the issue is. (Might help me as well) lol
@Tdaz2502 ай бұрын
Start cheap. Usually it’s either the brake switch itself(slider thing…I haven’t had this but have heard it happen to others). On my truck I first replaced the relay on the drivers side behind the rear wheel. It’s like 30 bucks for a delco part. Next is the brake switch on the brake pedal. Again 20-30 bucks. Mine ended up being the brake switch. This is assuming you’ve made sure your fuses are good(I think it’s stud 2?)
@drunkguy_66392 ай бұрын

@joshuacampbell14712 ай бұрын
I started out thus far checking all my fuses, (which were good). Replaced the brake pedal position sensor and recalibrated it. Currently it’s giving me two codes.. C111B, U040. Any time I start the truck, it says service trailer brake system.. I can clear it, and immediately it pops back up. I work out of state, so when I get back home. I’ll put it on the lift, plan to trace wiring, look it over. Test/ replace relays and go from there. (2015.5 lml high country crew cab 4x4). Earlier this year I replaced the trailer brake switch on the dash bezel on left of the steering wheel as well
