Interest rates were 6% more Credit score got damaged from length of loan. Ordered a GMC 3500HD Duramax in late Nov. 2023. Picked it up in March 2024. I didn't want the Duramax because I didn't think it was worth the extra $10K and was originally going to order it with the 6.6 gasser, but something inside me told me the get the diesel. I hope I made the right decision. It only has 4600 miles. I don't drive it much since I drive a company truck. It's already been to the dealer for the software up date and tailgate multi-pro wiring harness. Each fixed on the same day. So far the truck drives like a dream. I hope it stays like that.

I genuinely think we have hit the limits on pleasing government regulations with with technology and oil viscosity at the expense of reliability. This is really a issue for a lot of manufacturers right now, Toyota is having this issue with the V35A-FTS 3.5 twin turbo. 0w20 and lower is insufficient with keeping parts separated, in fact 0w20 is only rated for -40° to 50° fahrenheit ambient temperature regardless of additive packages and base oil make up. The hotter oil gets the lower the centistokes get and parts start rubbing against each other. It has nothing to do with tolerances, a car from the 60s and a car today have at least .001 for every inch of the diameter of the journal, any less and it would lock up when things start to heat up. Manufacturers get rewarded by the government for cutting emissions and fuel consumption. Remember it only has to last 100,000 miles and then they're off the hook.
@FERNV775
@FERNV775 9 күн бұрын
My guess is that it is being caused by the trash AFM/DoD. We tuned it out on our 2016 and keep the oil changed often. We will eventually do the full hardware delete for the DoD for even more peace of mind.

I have an LBZ, just removed the EGR using one of your older videos, I’m having a problem though getting my aftermarket downpipe to couple with the exhaust, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to get it to sit flush but I can’t seem to get it at the right angle and I can smell and hear exhaust still leaking through the V band. Any tips? Should I try just buying a new V band? Or is there a better way to manipulate the exhaust to the correct angle?
@TruckMaster
@TruckMaster 7 күн бұрын
Buy a new v band also leave the downpipe clamp that connects to the turbo slightly loose when you tighten the lower clamp to the exhaust. But it’s also possible your exhaust system has shifted back. It might take some playing around but you will get it

@ I’m still wrestling with this, it’s driving me crazy. Where the downpipe meets the exhaust there is a gap on the outside, toward the tire. The inside sits flush. I’ve pushed the downpipe as far down as it will go, and I’ve tried everything I can think of to twist the exhaust a little bit to get them to sit flush but nothing has worked. Even bought the new v band but it made no difference.

I'm not a mechanic but could that variable oil pressure pump be part of the problem? I went through the Ford "power shift " transmission issues. 3 clutch packs replaced in less than 80k. Got rid of Fiesta after it lurched through intersection with my foot still on the brake. Currently driving a Gen 2 Frontier

Could it possibly be owners not using 91 octane gas and thus excessive engine knock is the cause of piston connecting rod failure?

Even the original 6.2's all experienced piston slap unlike the 4.8 & 5.3. G.M. quickly printed up a bulletin calling it a 'cold start knock' AND to reassure the owner that it's completely NORMAL. Offer them some high mileage synthetic lube.

Well isn't that great! Hopefully I'm not one of the unlucky ones because I have a 2020 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss with a 6.2 and 39,000 MI. I've had no issues with it so far. I thought I was out of the woods concerning the lifter issue by now but now you're telling me I have to worry about this one happening too?? I don't drive it hard and I don't tow with it so I guess we'll see how far it gets me.

Bet alot of problems would go away if car manufacturers paid for engine oil and differential fluid change in the first 500 miles. Every single new car has metal in the oil. Part of any metal on metal wear in period. Car companies telling you to wait 5k to 10k miles for the first oil change is pure insanity. If you get an engine built, the builder drains the oil after first run. Ring and pinion upgrade, a shop will say come back within 300 to 500 miles for drain and refill. And todays autos are set up tight. Change that early too.

I rember in the very early 90’s you bought a new car they changed your oil at 500 miles.. then another 2500 miles later and you were even at numbers 3000 then your next was at 6000 then 9000 /12000..

Yikes. This is going to be a huge, huge cost to GM and that doesn't include what a root cause analysis and redesign is going to take if that is the issue. Ford has had its issues, Stellantis is holding their breath with the new Hurricane engine and now a new Cummings coming online soon. Toyota has had some real issues as well with their V6 in their 1/2 ton trucks. This is horrible.

Man!! and I gave a thought of getting a new Silverado. I just don't see this being a "software" issue. I'm leaning more to a crankshaft design, tolerances off, machining off, who the hell knows. I'll stick to my 09, Silverado-Texas Edition. Unfortunately, I'm having transmission issues as we speak.

GM knew this sh!t was going on. They did nothing to get in front of it AND even blamed customers for the failures! I hope every engine affected by premature failure is replaced and a 10yr/100,000 warranty applied. As for the 39 complaints....not many people know how to report their problem. If dealerships were required to report these issues, there would be NO investigation and replacement would be required.

Bearing failure is only caused by sizing, lube, and speed. Since the engine has a rev limit, that only leaves sizing and lube since the engine makes no noise that leaves lube. My bet is the variable oil pressure pump. Probably under pumping at light load. I'm not sure what controls the oil volume, but that's where my money is. As far as oil viscosity, almost no one knows how that works. A 5w-30 starts at a weight 5, then thickens to a 30 weight when heated. It's not the oil viscosity. Read for yourself how oil weights work right from the oil manufacturer.

To my knowledge, a lot of these issues have risen due to their DFM/AFM. I don't believe the 6.6 gasser has either of these systems, so it is a less complex engine.
