If that truck has cylinder deactivation, which I'm 99% sure it does. I would recommend finding a way to disable it, it has been known to cause uneven wear on the valvetrain on the 5.3 and 6.2 v8.

Always get a certified welder to do frame repairs man. There’s a lot more to just “welding a bracket” back on the frame. Preheat and post heat to nominalize the steel after the repair. Making sure you have the appropriate amount of weld input into that piece. There’s reasons for the small amount of metal deposited into that bracket for accidents and crush points. Other then that carry on love your fixing it for your dad
@GrantCrabe

I see messages like this and I wonder do you realize people had to just invent welding from scratch had to create techniques without any prior knowledge? Do you realize all these people trade or academics telling you have to take their course to be good are from a long line of people that had to figure it out? I hope an apocalypse never comes because you will be waiting a long time for a specialist to show up because you would rather not do an adequate job yourself

Easiest/best way to fix those control arm mounting holes when they rip is to bend is back as best as possible and weld washers on each side to use as the new holes. With the control arm mounted in it's also clamped tight. Will never go anywhere.

If you have the 5.3 engine, it is one of the best GM has ever put out. I've had 2,one in a 2004 Tahoe with 260,000 miles when I sold it and currently in my 2015 Sierra Denali with 133,000 miles on it. Make sure you do a complete fluid change before you do a lot of driving because you never know how the previous owner kept it up. Good luck !!!
@pv2xeek
@pv2xeek 6 ай бұрын
Very debatable. Those engines are a roll of the dice. Some go 300k without issues and more of them wipe out cam lobes or collapse lifters at 50k. Sometimes you get lucky and find a 6.0 or 6.2 without AFM but even then you are most likely stuck with a junk 6L80 behind it.

Pad the tree next time! You'll kill it if you tear through too much of the bark with that chain. I bought 4-6" wide nylon strapping (you can just get a snatch strap) and sewed it together into a tube to run the chain through when putting up a swing in a tree, that will work well for what you're doing.

The still shots and video shots that you took of the Passenger side shows that that rear bumper is bent down as slightly.That might have been from retrieval from the accident , but it is bent. If you are going to the extent of replacing all of the things on the front and taking care of the airbag and all of that, you might as well, just throw in a couple 100 extra bucks and get the new rear bumper as well or just try to bend up the bumper mounts, because that's where.It bent at.

Make to either get a tune or disabler OBD2 puck for the Active fuel management to force it to stay in V8 mode it shifting between V4 and V8 can cause premature wear to the motor at best and at worse grenade the upper engine parts, maybe think about putting a catch can on it since its DI if your dad is willing to empty it out with every oil change. Lastly make sure it has the updated transmission thermal bypass valve from chevy if its has the 6l80 Trans because if it has the factory TBV they run hot and it causes the converter to break down and eventually fail which can cost the transmission its life depending on how bad it is average life span of the converter if the TBV was not upgraded to the new one is anywhere from 80k to 100k miles so might be worth trading it out for the 6l90 converter it much more rugged and isn't prone to failure like the stock one was its also direct fit if I'm not mistaken and doesn't required any conversion plates or anything like that. These trucks are great truck just this particular generation had a few issues due to GM trying things they probably shouldn't have and partially being force by new at the time government regulations.

I'd really spruce up the interior - perhaps nicer arm rest - nicer head unit, etc. I'd also look to see if one of the multi function tailgates will work for this year truck - that would be a very nice upgrade - as we all get older getting in the bed of the truck gets to be more of a challenge and the lift kit doesn't help. also deploying type side steps would be nice as well....

You lost me at 3.5" lift kit. I have a practical functionality mindset. If you're not using the lift for practical use and instead just for looks, then imo thats a huge waste.
