Ahead of it's time?? LoL this has been native indian nd African philosophy for thousands of years in regards to how we should treat nd be in harmony with our environment,that's why there's still wildlife in Africa nd Europe has none,that's why Europeans killed millions upon millions of buffaloes with wanton abandon,while indians usually prayed nd made many libations before slaughtering a single buffalo or bull... Y'all are coming in too late..😅

It is because of the identification with our ego and the accusation that we are merely the guardians of the whole World which furthers the disharmony between the human species and the way we interact with the natural world. We are intelligent, though misguided; we have the potential to adapt our technological expressions with the flow of life and right our wrongs, yet we over-extend ourselves for the position of a false prestige within our own illusions of our mind, we create things just to say we created it for glory and a passion for desire which only furthers the separation of us within our environment, the rise of smart technology and phones have progressively increased this by creating a separate identity within our already preconceived ideology of separation within the palm of our hands when it should be the unification of us and nature. The problem is we want to be heroes because we believe we are more intelligent than nature and try to "save" the planet from what we think is harmful, this then does the opposite and causes harm to nature instead by some external means. We have a hard time trusting nature and ourselves and we resist the natural harmony of our universe.

This talk is possibly over 50 years old, and not at all dated. The graphics are a wonderful update, except… All the humans in the videos are Caucasian! What a grotesque oversight on the part of the talented people who made this modern video to an audio talk from an earlier generation. We can perhaps excuse Alan Watts for his binary discussion of gender, because times were different then. But we cannot excuse making a nice, long updated video, ignoring most of the humanity that Watts talking about.

I was literrally sick of stress, even had some organs removed due stress, until I started listening to talks from Alan Watts while under influence of psychedelics (5-MeO-DMT) I had an enlightenment experience. Since then there is not much I worry about anymore, I'm living more in the now than in the past or future, no longer afraid of death or being sick anymore and most of the stress I had has fallen away. My severe depression is no longer present and the need for opiates to control my pain and antidepressants were also no longer necessary. Some people don't like what I became, especially doctors and some close people, but I now see it is all just a big unnecessary game we're trying to play or is being played for us, and I'm done with this toxic game 😊 I hope more people finally get to see it. It's so liberating ❤

If you think God Alan You and the environment are distinctly different things you are in the right place but hearing happens in stages as does understanding. Dropping ego is also a prerequisite to hear clearly.

I think the concept he explains is a logical, yet important observation of the universe. From my interpretation what he was trying to express most importantly is the loss of our connection and appreciation of nature/environment, the inadequacy that the ego makes us feel, and the illusion of separation.
@miguel30215
@miguel30215 2 жыл бұрын
If you listen to a lot of his lectures, he’s really trying to get one point across. He can’t specifically just straight out say it without him sounding crazy. But with all his lectures he tries to help you get to the point of understanding. Took me a few years to understand it completely but it’s definitely a life changer. I remember Alan watts quoting some guy saying, it could take you 3 seconds or take you 30 years to understand, some people will go there whole lives not understanding. Simple answer is knowing that you are connected/one with the universe. If you can understand that all the good and bad things that happen to you are because of your own thoughts and actions, then you will understand what it means to be one with the universe. It’s just the law of attraction at work and its always working whether you believe in it or not. Its just takes focus and paying attention to your thoughts and environment to realize you’re the one actually causing everything to happen.
@bensjourney7607
@bensjourney7607 2 жыл бұрын
@@miguel30215 Yes definitely agree with you. I still struggle to fully understand some of the things he talks about, but as I further my spiritual development his ideas make a lot more sense. Can't wait until the day I fully study all of his talks, he words things so magically that sometimes I just listen for the sake of listening.

The separation from nature happens because we have a separation between the thinker and the thought, the experiencer and the experience. The self cannot examine the self, it is an impossibility, in the same way that an eye cannot look at itself. But most of the population of the world do it anyway. How can we observe ourselves without a self doing the observing? That, and that alone is the crazy trick that Watts is trying to expose.
@bensjourney7607
@bensjourney7607 2 жыл бұрын
@@bh_486 it's funny as you mentioned the seperation between the thought and the thinker, I mean i still don't get that concept as some thoughts aren't our own but i guess that could be an illusion itself. I personnaly still see the ego as seperate and one at the same time but feeling in one with the experience and the universe oh i've deffinetly felt that for sure

Partially agree! While the speaker emphasizes a shift in human influence on evolution, one could argue that human actions, including the development of artificial intelligence, are intrinsically linked to the environment. Humans, being part of the natural world, extend the evolution's course through their endeavors. Rather than alien interventions, these actions are, in essence, an extension of the evolutionary tapestry, shaping and evolving in harmony with the environment. Moreover, there seems to be a contradiction when labeling human intervention as an 'ghastly error'. If humans are indeed part and parcel of the environment, then their actions, even when steering evolution, become an inherent aspect of nature. Suggesting an 'ghastly error' in human intervention implies a separation between humans and the environment, questioning the very premise that humans are an integral component of the natural order
