@ar - I moved to LA area in 2010 after living in Ohio for over 50 years. I miss thunderstorms. I was in Culver City Monday afternoon when lightning hit about 1/2 mile away. After not hearing very loud thunder for a couple years, it definitely make me jump. I'm used to hearing thunder approaching from a distance. Native Californians laugh at me when I get overly-concerned about earthquakes. I laugh at native Californians when they get overly-concerned about lightning and thunder.

Yeah, I remember when It started Raining yesterday at around 1. I work at a Middle School here in San Diego, and when it Started Raining during the day, the Students started to go out from under the Cover/Roof thing for Lunch and were playing in the Rain! It was so cute, until it started raining real hard like 5 minutes later. One Student even said, and I quote, "This ^points at the sky^ Means the hot weather is over!" and I hope he's right. As for the Thunderstorms last night, My Family has a Large German Shepherd Mix and he's 2, Meaning he turns into a giant baby anytime there's fireworks or thunder... it was a long night.
