I've lived on both sides of the 49th. My first day living in the States was 9/11 that was a bit of a shock. Most of the people in the community where i bought my house came by that day and asked if I was doing okay as they knew I came from Canada, absolutely incredible kindness. The reality is this, US or Canadian we are just people and our country of residence does not make us "Canadian" or "American". Its not a definition. I can honestly say that folks south of the border are incredibly kind and amazingly proud and confident. At some point in time, maybe not in my lifetime, but at some point the border will need to cease its existence to combat China's economics as they are ruling the roost and North America has become dependant on cheap Chinese manufacturing... the only way to crawl out of that hole is for a based North American approach and that means no borders and a unified front for manufacturing, energy, technology et al.

I would love to have a constitution like the US instead of our Charter of Rights which was made by the true rulers of Canada which is the Monarchy. The illusion that we seceded from England fooled a lot of people but when you listen to the PM's inauguration speech they swear allegiance to the Monarchy and Privy Council. Not once do they swear to serve the Canadian people!
