She didn't have to do this, but she did. She is also telling anyone who will listen that she believes that she is here today to tell her story because she has a privilege that Tay did not have. Thus, she is acknowledging that issues with race exist and are real. Not every human will do this. Some humans don't believe that race is ever an issue. My mom made a call to the Jersey City Police department for a welfare check and they rang my bell and met me at the top of the staircase. We talked and I told them that I recently left my job and did not want to hear what she had to say. They said "just call her, she is concerned" they left after. That is how you handle a welfare check.

Its bad policing and has nothing to do with the lawyers race. The police should always make their presence known, and she is lucky she called out to the cops, otherwise the situation could of been the same.
@scottwill64985 жыл бұрын
User 548753 your right I have my criminal justice degree and all cops need to go through years of learning to train the mind that people aren’t bad, if you want to be a cop you have to remember your pulling someone over or trying to apprehend someone who already might not be having a good day and you unknowingly may add on to that bad day so long story short more community policing less ticket and apprehension

@Falleninator5 жыл бұрын
I'll clarify for your 5 neurons. She was saying that because she's WHITE - her biggest worry was "what if they had shot my DOG." If she had been a black woman, her biggest worry would've been "what if they shot ME." Because she recognizes that interactions with police are VASTLY different depending on the color of one's skin. She in no way, shape or form compared a person to a dog.
@jonathanbussu67485 жыл бұрын
t A black woman in the situation might also think "what if they shot my dog" don't make assumptions on peoples reactions, espessially to an hypothetical event, there was no dog on the Tay's 911 call. If the cop is gonna shoot by mistake he might shoot the dog or a person, you are in no position to make assumptions as to how a person will react depending on their skin color.
