Problem is that Seth Meyer understands Trump with far more depth than the corporate news media. What a clusterfuck of a country we have when the only people who see below the surface are the comedians. James Simone - Stop worrying about the selfish fools who voted for Trump in 2016. Focus on the people who did not vote at all. They are the real reason we are stuck with this grifter in the White House. Every vote mattered in 2016, and even more so in 2020. Even though the machine votes are tainted, Obama outran the hackers in 2008 and 2012, and despite all the disinformation and machine vote meddling, Hillary almost did the same in 2016. But 47% of the registered voters simply did not vote. Some were deliberately blocked, but not most of them. Republicans block efforts to increase voter turnout because they know that they are actually the minority Party. Even in the Senate, the Democratic Senators represent more people than the Republican Senators. It is only the 2 Senators per state rule that keeps the Republicans in the majority in the Senate. Vote out the Republicans (1/3 of the Senators are up for re-election in 2020) and that will get rid of the Trump/Putin control in the Senate.

@Tenchigumi4 жыл бұрын
I think H1N1 (swine flu) was a good indicator as to how Obama would have fared today. Obama had only been President for a few months when he declared H1N1 a public health emergency. In the first three months of H1N1 (starting from detection of the first case), there were only 37,246 cases and 211 deaths in America. In roughly the same span of time, COVID-19 had 654,425 cases and 32,900 deaths. When all was said and done, H1N1 claimed nearly 12,500 lives over the course of a year, whereas COVID-19 has surpassed 70,000 in roughly FOUR MONTHS, and will likely reach six figures before we even get a whiff of a vaccine. In short, the newly minted President of 2009 (who was also tackling the aftermath of the Great Recession at the time) managed to do FAR better job than our current President, who was three years into the job. Beyond that, Obama took the experience from H1N1 (and later Ebola) and created a Pandemic Response Team specifically to address issues like COVID-19. However, Trump shat all over that experience and restructured said team into a scattershot operation that has proven incapable of mustering a coherent response (or, more likely, incapable of breaking through Trump's filter of idiocy). But most importantly, Obama (and possibly ANY other sane president) treated the H1N1 pandemic as a human health crisis, where safeguarding American lives was the main priority. Trump, however, has consistently treated COVID-19 as a personal *political* crisis, and made saving the economy (and thus, his election hopes) his only priority. Honestly, almost any other qualified human with basic empathy would have done better than Trump, but Obama gets extra points for having a lot of experience, a willingness to learn, and a solid track record.

I am expecting some Trumptard to start commenting any minute about the myth the right wing has created about Obama and H1N1. According to them, Obama just sat around for months while 200,000 people died of H1N1. The truth is way different. Obama declared a National Health Emergency a day before WHO did. He immediately instructed the CDC to get going with a vaccine. 200,000 haven’t died of H1N1, as of March 30, 2020, only 12, 800+ have died of H1N1, and the virus vaccine is updated every year and included in with others in the yearly seasonal flu shot. There were initial deaths before the vaccine, but it was a handful of people, the majority of deaths that have occurred since the vaccine are people who haven’t been vaccinated every year and are vulnerable. People have died of H1N1 during Trump’s 3 years... a large amount of them last year. Just thought I would head off the right wing alternative fact/conspiracy theory idiots this time.

@@jaybee4118 I believe your restrictions basically match ours right now, although ours have some variations from state to state, ranging from Victoria's still heavy handed approach eg no social visits to mothers homes for mothers day, to Qld's 10 people picnics in parks permitted, but the fundamentals here are the same as for you I believe, at least right now, may change in a few hours, we're expecting a review announcement today :) Currently both at level 3 though, which our governments have tried to keep as uniform as possible & yeh needs a few weeks at level 3 before reducing, you've worked SO hard to get where you are, would be horrible to lose it all after all that work! Need to confirm things are stable before dropping another level :) It does seem likely you were on a sharper rise than we were on when we both went into restrictions, not totally clear, but seems likely & is what some experts are saying, so had you not done that, you could have possibly been in a mess, hard to know, you've got an awesome result out of it now though, to have all cases with identifiable sources! As long as that holds in level 3 for at least 2-3 weeks, that puts you at close to clear of the virus completely! Still needs monitoring after that of course, but dam it will be a good result if you can get there in such a short space of time :) Given we only intended to flatten the curve, yeh we're doing really really well to :) really happy with it, but we are still dealing with random cases popping up, not a lot of them, but enough to still need to be REALLY watching this thing for now if we're going to get to where you are. I'm just SO happy to be in a zone of the world where we have competent management that's actually caring about our lives! So sad watching so many other countries do such silly things

Lilac Lizard I think NZ’s idea was to aim for eradication from the start and we’ll hopefully achieve it. Though, it seems almost inevitable now that it’ll end up in the yearly rotation of illnesses in US and Europe at least, so I can’t see our borders opening for most, if any countries until we have a vaccine. My dad is almost 80 sufferers from a heart condition breathing condition and yes he is a worrier but he already served his country in Vietnam. Remember the one trump couldn’t fight in because he had a rich daddy and my worked on farms in Virginia and boats in North Carolina and was a construction worker in Houston. And now receives social security so again he’s expendable while the assholes who are put in charge to I don’t know make sure we at least live once again put their fucking greed before human life.

The last thing Trump wants is "fair coverage". The press has been far too lenient with as it is.

well, in Brazil they have a lot of criminals and corruption too. Thousands of people get shot, murdered, on a weekly basis. Corona might not be on the top of their list of worries. Both him and Trump got elected. The scary thing is that people like you seem to be unaware of the mechanism that got these people in charge: Massive frustration and inequality. Those people fall for the wolf in sheep clothes. Those leaders are loved, because they are aggressive and seemingly protective of their flock - perhaps at the cost of others. I'm guessing Bolsonaro got elected by unemployed, desperate, perhaps starving people. Corona is not on the top of their list.

The death toll is projected to be 137,000 for this cycle alone considering enough mitigation is in place to counteract the second resurgence. If administration focuses more on opening the economy without any decisive action to counteract the resurgence in fall (it is inevitable) even more people will die and death toll will be in millions.

@@Sandeep33 It will most likely be close to 1.5 million. That was my first guess back on New Years, when all my friends where like "WTF are you talking about, bird flu or something?! Don't be silly that will never happen here." Personally I still believe about 50% or more of Americans will catch this at some point this year, and roughly 1% of them will die from it. Also remember the first white house numbers where 100-200K dead before they pushed the 60K joke of a number that only stood for about 2 weeks if I remember correctly. In case someone wants to look at this months in the future it's May 7 and the death toll is at 74,809.
