What about people like me who worked in Long Term Health Care for 40 years- weekends. holidays, different shifts whose Social Security checks are just above the "poverty line" but NOT enough for a decent standard of living?! WE get "left out in the cold" as USUAL. If I had my life to live over I would NEVER work in health care!

I'm on SS disability and have been for several years. If I wasn't disabled I wouldn't be able to survive.. If you are as poor as me you can learn to live off nothing, thank goodness I have a housing subsidy and food stamps. It's so effed up I live in California so I have excellent health care.. the closest to univeral care one can have but it is so unfair because I can't even own anything or make any money at all to try and supplement the VERY low monthly I get. I feel so sorry for those who work so hard and they have to look forward to poverty existence. I am terrified of Trump and his cronies.

Yes, Sam, we have an oligarchic fascism. Oligarchy connotes the financial advantage for the oligarchy, and fascism stands for the antidemocratic political side of the power flow. We have effectively lost the democracy, if we ever really had it.

Well they won't eliminate (or reduce) the payroll tax, but they will redirect it towards privately controlled investment funds, like 401Ks etc. Considerably more risk, but huge benefit to Wall-Street. The whole system needs adjustment. Because eventually robots or AI won't be paying the payroll tax, and their employers won't be paying the match either.

Those who analyzed the posts were biased, but the users who will now decide if the post is offensive, especially the bots, are not biased. It seems legit.

It will just make the SSA fund run out faster, I heard. Wow DEmS! Thanks for not much! They could have also RAISED THE CAP & VOILA ALL SOC SEC WOULD BE FINE & raised up also for everyone , but they now only raised it for those who already have another pension ! Nothing for the rest of us bottom feeders who make only$1,000 due to our health ailment and elder statsus…

The entire framing of the Social Security discussion is wrong. I know the current law says that payroll tax funds the trust fund, the trust fund pays the benefits, and there's a cap on the payroll tax. I get it. But Congress can change that law, lower the retirement age, increase benefits, they can even kill the tax, and still pay every benefit in perpetuity. Why? Because taxes don't fund spending. The federal government is the exclusive creator of US dollars. The dollars used for the trust fund that pays the benefit ultimately originate with the US federal government. Please focus your efforts on getting Congress to increase benefits and lower the retirement age without a tax hike. Your only resistance is with the tax, not with the benefit.

Have to disagree sam, They simply cant hire all humans to do this because they have grown too large. Doesnt mean they couldnt hire some and have ahybrid system. But anyone who knows the industry will tell u the same... having all humans isnt possible.
@mmoreno7137Күн бұрын
Maybe they can do the math and mess with the other side. Like when people talk about how unfair it is that Billionaires pay more money than other people then they can propose "Everybody pays on 50% of their income that sounds fair" and it would keep the fund solvent with the percentage they come up with. :P They weaponize math in the other direction so we should too.
@volk4523Күн бұрын
We honestly should be paying about 60-70% income tax in order to fund public services. Granted, the military budget should be halved, and we should only be allowed at maximum 60K-80K personnel at any given time. We have the money to fund things without extra taxes, but the extra taxes would up the game of the effects of those institutions if we did it.
