As a woman with 20+ years military experience, I hate that youre right. But the truth is the truth. This is embarrassing to all women. While serving, I've personally declined jobs that I was slated for, because I knew I was not the best or safest pick for the job, simply because of my smaller stature and therefore lesser physical capability. The risk that I wouldn't have been physically able to safely perform my mission if a dangerous situation occurred, was too high for my conscience to accept. And there were better-fit options available. So I put my ego aside, went to my superiors with my concerns, and handed the position to someone more physically appropriate. I suppose this is what can happen when we don't do that. When we take our awards and trophies too seriously, and believe they accurately portray our abilities.
