I taught in Florida 20 yrs ago…that slavery gave black people skills argument isn’t new. It comes with Civil War had zero to do with ending slavery. It was about poor farmers vs rich industrialists or states rights vs federal. This has been taught decades. They fire back with Lincoln didn’t start with abolishing slavery and added that mid war, slavery would have gone away without war due to industrialism, and Black people fought for the Confederacy…They didn’t learn that Slaves were currency and breeding farms were a major industry. They did not learn slaves were legal currency in Southern bank investment schemes (they sold shares in slaves to foreign investors where slavery was banned). They don’t teach that the Confederates actually passed a congressional act mid war putting slaves in uniform with provisioning "that nothing in this act shall be construed to authorize a change in the relation which the said slaves shall bear toward their owners," i.e. that black soldiers and all their offspring would still be slaves. They didn’t teach that Southern cities were run by slaves who cleaned all the streets and did the menial jobs…peopled to the point white people were the minority. All white people lived on free black labor..NOT just the wealthy farmers and investors. They don’t teach that White armed militia enforced local laws keeping blacks off street at night with no holds barred on penalties. They won’t likely ever talk about how the pulpit was used to preach that God gave biblical saints slaves, so slavery was righteous.

@Gildedmuse Жыл бұрын
All you have to do is look at the Jim Crow laws - like the fact that in many states black citizens STILL weren't allowed to check out books from PUBLIC libraries unless they had permission to pick them up for a white individual - to dispel the idea that the south was ready to let go of slavery, or that keeping it around wasn't exactly the point of the war.
@cbpd89 Жыл бұрын
They also won't talk about the revolts staged by slaves. Hundreds of them, maybe thousands of organized attempts to break free. The amount of assaults enslaved women suffered or the fact that gynecology as we know it got it's start with forced experiments on enslaved women. To claim it was in any way beneficial in the face of all the cruelty and abuse is like saying the house fire isn't "that bad" because there is a puddle of water down the street

The clip of Kamala attacking DeSantis over the slavery thing is EXACTLY what she should be doing. There's been a lot of criticism of her performance in the first term. THIS is her role. She was a prosecutor and she was never more popular as a Senator then questioning people in committee. Biden should be out there happy and smiling making the case for why they deserve a second term and Kamala should all over the country prosecuting the case against every single Republican.
@josephhuether1184 Жыл бұрын
Just be mindful that while “…over the country prosecuting the case against every single Republican”…you must grasp that in any individual congressional district you must be able to “prosecute the case” as though you are “running for mayor” of that specific district and not simply preaching to the choir or running for mayor of San Francisco.

Dan Goldman *PUT YOUR SEATBELT ON!!!!* I'm assuming Dan Goldman isn't ACTUALLY 'driving', despite saying "I'm driving around" the district right now. He should have said I'm RIDING around. --- If he IS driving while doing a podcast he should go to jail. But for Pete's sake, *PUT YOUR SEATBELT ON!!!!*

The 'slavery gave job skills' arguement is in the same vein as the classic 'if not for slavery, black Americans would still live in sh*thole Africa!' 🤯🤬

I'm sure that some concentration camp prisoners, many of whom were used as slave labor, learned skills that helped them in their futures...if they survived.

Not only did not many slaves learn how to read, but it was actually *illegal* in most slave holding states to teach them to read! What a load of cow manure!!!!!

Democrats can sway rural voters with honest policy discussions. The community networks are largely driven by lefty ideas, truly conservative, not right-wing.

Wow, you're like one of the very few people I've encountered who understand that left and right, liberal and conservative are not interchangeable. Left-conservative is not an oxymoron.

It's like, yeah, admittedly it was a different time and circumstances were radically different, but which side of Parliament did the monarchists sit in France, and which side did the Republicans (in the literal sense of the word) sit on? 🤔 THAT is the original context, and some people seem to argue that it's obsolete. But I don't think so...

IMHO it's actually about egalitarianism (in the broad sense) vs the existing hierarchy
@Thomas_H_Sears Жыл бұрын
@@bsadewitz Yes, that is the original context. And yes, there are parallels. Also, the Democratic Party was birthed by slaveholders in the South in retaliation against an election stolen by collusion between Congress and business interests in the North. The Republican Party was founded in a desperate attempt to limit the expansion of slavery - with the clearly stated object of eventually allowing the fiscally irresponsible institution of slavery to evaporate. Jackson advocated protecting “natural rights” against the attacks of a “corrupt aristocracy.” (States Rights, Sovereign Citizen). Lincoln was a Socialist warning against the growing capitalist system, advocating for the supremacy of Labor. Hitler claimed to be Socialist, Lenin claimed to be Communist - both liars. Labels are irrelevant (as is the label, 'No Labels'). We need to free ourselves from their tyranny and stand firmly on ACTUAL policies, on ACTUAL plans to follow, in the US, the excuses for government in the Preamble of the Constitution. A National unity can be built only on the shared goals enunciated there: Justice, Tranquility, Defense, Welfare, Liberty. ALL else is disruptive and divisive; Any neglect is destructive and fatal to the United States.

@@bsadewitz In the broadest sense, yes. It approaches the Puritan idea of governance requiring the consent of the governed and private property as the fruit of bloody theft. And we also need to guard against the anarchy of no governance.
