Been watching most of your videos and they are very helpful. I got a 70 GTO I just finished tubbing the frame and now starting on the body. Everything behind the backseat needs to be replaced, trunk, quarters, wheel wells, you get the point. I've never done this before just a hobbyist and you videos really help! Re-watching now as I get ready to start removing panels.

@@classicrewind2715 My thoughts are yes. I have been reading the comments left by others and it seems you inspire a good many people. The people who comment seem to have a range of 68-72 a-body vehicles and would lap up any tidbit of decent info out there. You have a way of explaining things that makes it easier to understand. I would go out on a limb and call it a gift.

Thank you Rhett.. I really appreciate it. I started this channel to help myself and people in the same situation. I found a bunch of videos that said they will show you how to do it the next thing you know the video is done and they did not explain how they finish the project.. I try to go into detail sometimes I talk too much, and I have to do a lot of editing, LOL. All the best my friend, take care!!

Thanks for the video. Really impressed with how much you’re tackling here. When going this deep on replacement, I do much of it on the frame so I can have the comfort of referencing the body mount locations. Keeps me from worrying too much about “shift”. Quick to take it off of course to get work done but having it close by is critical I’ve found. You likely have already addressed the 1/2 to 3/4 gap between the trunk pan and floor pan but thought I’d tell you what I would do. I would fill it with either a “C” channel or square tube piece. If concerned about the strength of the “C”, you could use heavier gauge or maybe box it in after welding the “C”part in. It’s always frustrating when seemingly exact duplicate pressings cause these issues. I’m well underway on my second full restoration. Only 6 short videos in but if interested, “BuildAnother68Chevelle” is the channel. Again, Thanks, good luck, and I’ll be following this from here on.

Thanks Paul. I appreciate you leaving a comment. Yes, I did address the fact that there is a 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch Gap. between the floor pan and the trunk pan. What I ended up doing was using a 16 gauge L Channel and weld it fast to close up the gap. I thought I addressed it in one of my videos. But if not, I will definitely go back and address it. There's also another issue. On the aftermarket cowl panel. The nut placement for the quarter panel are in wrong area for a 68 GTO . I don't know if that panel is correct on the Chevelle cowl panel....I will definitely check out your channel. Thanks again. Keep in touch my friend

Hi Chris. Are you referring to the difference between the trunk panel and the floor panel? I ended up putting a piece of L shaped metal in there to fill the space. You can't see it from underneath the frame actually covers that area all the way across. That area is reinforced with tube metal where the frame bushing sit. That is why I did not cut the lip and weld another piece.. All the best

@@classicrewind2715 yeah that's what I meant. I just always try to make things look as factory as possible. Just kinda picky I guess lol. I had 69 gto for years. Sold it to my brother a while back. I really regret it.

Thanks Kris. Yes, I'm pretty much the same way. I'm trying to make it all original. I don't want to piece anything together. I will be customizing the inside. But everything metal and body wise I would like to keep pretty much original. These aftermarket panels are a bear to work with. I was trying to work that area between the trunk panel and the floor pan for about 6 hours. I could not understand why it wasn't working. So I decided to fit a piece of metal in there to fill the area and weld it. The bolts for the fender on the cowl panel are actually in the wrong spot. I will be making a video and pointing that out. All the best.

They are spot welded together. You need to be careful when I put the two panels together, (Truck and floor pan) there was a gap about a 3/4 of an inch. I had to weld a piece of L sheet metal to compensate for the gap. I can't remember which video it was, sure if you search my videos you will find it. I hope this helps. All the best.

Great work, my friend. Your videos are very helpful! My question is how do you separate the trunk pan from the rear seat divider? Do you have to take the divider out? In your video, it looks like yours is still in there. Did you just drill out the spot welds from the bottom? Thanks and keep up the great work! 👍

Hi, thank you for the kind words. Yes, I actually did separate the floor pan, trunk pan and rear divider. They all come together at that point. They are spot welded all together. Check out the video around 2 minutes in . It shows the inside. I had a problem with the repop floor pan not coming all the way up to the trunk pan. I had to weld a piece of angle iron, from underneath and then weld everything together from up top. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any problems. I'm working on my GTO truck floor patch panel. I got the Dynacorn but had to modify where the truck meets the truck drop off on each end. I see your truck looks to be correct for the GTO in those areas. What manufacturer is your trunk? My truck was for the Chevelle by the way.

Are you referring to the trunk filler panels? There was a space where the inner wheel well trunk panel and the filler panel comes together. I had to use a hammer and Dolly to get the metal to sit much flatter than Factory. I don't recall my trunk panel brand. I bought it from OPGI, I also got my floor pan from there. The filler panels I purchased from eBay. all the best

Hi Frank. I didn't do any permanent welding until all my panels were in place. I ended up using self tapping screws to keep everything together while I was lining up other panels. Which I lined up with my inner wheel wells. I hope this helps . All the best

Hi KC. There is a lot of different companies that sell panels. They're all made by two maybe three manufacturers. I actually found my trunk filler panels on eBay. Beautiful panels almost OEM. A friend of mine recently bought a cowl panel and the stamping wasn't as good as the one that I bought from OPGI. So it depends on where they're buying their stampings from. I hope this helps. Good morning Arthur. yes, I did put the trunk floor in myself. It's not that heavy. I used a lot of clamps which held it in place to make sure everything was lined up properly. in the video there is a gap between the floor pan and the trunk pan. I had to put a piece of 16 gauge L shape in to fill that space that is the only problem I had. You will have to watch the video.( I don't know if I'm explaining it correctly. ) All the best my friend. good luck

Looks like a chevelle build has many parts available. My 78 malibu, not so much :( doing a 1 pc floor pan install right now. Funny how on other channels they're almost always repairing unibody stuff. Those brackets for the floor spot welded on are a bitch to revive. Probably should bought the drill bit, but air chisel had no balls, so did er with a hand chisel, and grinder where required. Good work though dude

Hi James. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I ended up putting a piece of angle metal. 16 gauge spot welded it from the underside. It was only off about 1/2 inch. I think the reproduction floor pan was too short. Because the trunk pan fit properly underneath the rear seat metal. Thanks for commenting..
