Echidna looks good in that school uniform. Roswaal basically said he stepped in at critical moments Subaru and Emilia would not be the hero’s that their slowly growing into now. Though I could be wrong about this with whatever happens later on. That ending was messed up! Subaru is suffering again! The circle of life is has returned.

Both the manga/light novel/web novel dive into this section in a little more detail. You were pretty spot on with your assumption. In order for Emillia to have a chance of becoming queen, she needed to get some victories and accomplishments under her belt. If she was capable of dealing with the cult without the aid of Roswaal that would have boosted her credit which Roswaal wants. He even realizes this plan is "evil", but does it anyway.

Well Fredrica explains that the mansion used to have a larger staff, but Roswaal sent them all away in preparation for advancing Emilia's claim to the throne. I suppose with the world's most powerful mage in the mansion, it's usually not a problem, but Roswaal is inconveniently (or conveniently) absent any time shit goes down.

The difference of then and now was episode 1 had a suicide that he did because he wanted to save rem but couldn't. This time though, there's higher stakes on the line as rem, Petra and frederica are all perhaps dead (Beatrice is likely alive though) and the only thing he knows is the perpetrator. Another difference is that this death happened at the end of the episode so it left an impact on us due to it being noteworthy. Episode 1 had it mid episode so we were left with fewer questions then this time around as we have no clue where subaru will end up.

Remember that Ram said Frederica would not harm the people of the mansion. This for me made very clear that she is not evil. Also, we do not know if the people that was in the mansion died. What makes me think that maybe someone in the mansion was trying to find Beatrice in order to avoid danger. Maybe Beatrice teleported everyone to a safe place or whatever. Because we cannot see signs that there was fight in the mansion in that final scene. It was just empty.

I'm guessing every door was open because when Elsa entered the mansion, either Petra or Frederica or both were trying to find Beatrice. I'm also guessing that Subaru will have to find Beatrice and tell her the message that Ram told subaru to say to her in order to stop Elsa. Also, if this is true, then that means that Roswaal somehow knows about the events at the mansion and again "trusting" subaru with dealing with it.

When I watched the episode, I suspected that somehow Roswaal sent Elsa to try to kill Subaru at the mansion. Roswaal is observing Subaru, and if Subaru proves to be aware of Elsa before leaving the Sanctuary, or to be aware of the message that he hasn't even told Subaru yet, then he will receive his undeniable confirmation that Subaru has some ability that allows him to see the future. All according to Roswaal's keikaku.

Roswaal has to know about the Return by Death curse. He has to. Otherwise, his statement about "knowing" that everything would turn out all right would be total bullshit. We saw the myriad ways it wouldn't be all right. There's no way he didn't understand the gravity of the threat. Also, the way he was acting during the ceremony at the capital was kinda suspect, too. I'm thinking _anyone_ with a certain level of magical aptitude can detect the return by death curse, they just can't talk about it just like Subaru can't. So they can only indirectly hint at it. That's probably another reason why Roswaal is being so evasive.

Roswaal and Beatrice from what we know they had a relationship with the witch's cult. We know that they know something is wrong with Subaru because of the witch smell he costantly has. On the other hand, Beatrice in season 1 thought it was "weird" that Subaru knew that he got a curse and she didn't expect it. So, I don't think Bea know about the curse and neither does Roswaal knows. I mean, just saying if Roswaal could read the future it doesn't justify his faith in Subaru since he couldn't see beyond subaru deaths. So yea, I don't understand what is going on. Maybe it's just a lie by Roswaal, and why is he the only one that got hurt in the trial? Is he really hurt?

You forgot something important from the episode that Ram said which was the secret message for Beatrice. Which adds more secrecy to Roswaal character like what does that message mean that Ram didn’t know and why trust Subaru with this. It’s like he knows the mansion will be attack again and the only one who is there to protect it is Beatrice. Next episode Subaru might look for Beatrice since she’s a strong spirit if not that other twin or whomever that other pink haired elf girl is will hint at something or might be the leader of the other faction that don’t want to leave the sanctuary.

I hate it when writers do this, if you're gonna say "all the answers you seek lie there" then give the answers when MC gets there. Give us the info you promised!

My guess for the open doors is Elsa searching Beakko's library. She probably can't change the door connected when all the other doors are open, thus Elsa only needs to open them all...

I think we already know what was up with the open doors. Iirc, Subaru told Petra that Beatrice's library could be behind any door in the mansion. We also know (and I assume Petra and Frederica know too) that Beatrice is INSANELY powerful. So, it's very likely to assume that when Elsa entered the mansion, Petra panicked and opened *every single door in the mansion she could* in order to find Beatrice to stop Elsa.

You forgot Beatrice regarding the doors and how a certain phrase will make "everything change". The relationship between Fredericka and Garfiel brings a lot of questions but it looks like Garfiel is at least seems more straightforward to Subaru. Rooswal doesn't want Emilia to know anything to control both Emilia and Subaru, he is even in favor of Subaru as Emilia's knight.

I mean, if the conflict with Elsa is on a timer essentially, then what happens next will depend on when Return by Death brings him back. This is just my random prediction, but if Roswal trust Subaru as much as he says he does, when he comes back and tells Roswal that they're in danger, he'll give everyone orders to come to Sanctuary and set up an ambush with Garfiel and the Elder.

I think she was implying what I suspect to be the huge twist, that being that this Subaru is a fake, created and given the memories of the original, who was actually the “sage Flugel” who Sealed Satella all those years ago and has been confirmed to have referenced google in the novels. There’s plenty of other hints as well. It also explains why Satella loves Subaru in the first place, as well all the other odd parallels between Flugel and himself.

The part about the doors all being open, spoilers I guess: Back in season one when Subaru was getting to know Beako ram said in surprise at how Subaru was able to find beako so easily because for the maids they had to open every door in the mansion to find the door she was hiding behind so it seems either Elsa opened every door herself or Petra just had the worse timing in checking in on beako
