Deep inside of us we all have this thing that God implanted in us that helps us survive.
The problem most of us run into, especially in the church, is due to the risk of possibly appearing judgmental we silence that default alarm and carry on through life defenseless and unaware.
In this episode, Preston talks about the power of intuition and suspicion.
Your intuition, or gut feeling, isn’t there on accident. Intuitions have saved more lives than can be counted and have been the hero in the story since the beginning of time.
Permitting yourself to investigate intuition is something as simple as going back in your house to check to see if you left the stove on or pushing on your front door to make sure it was actually closed all the way.
In the church, investigating an intuition might look like taking a volunteer out for coffee and asking them a few questions about their past or taking on the personal responsibility to double check that the church is cleared out because there was a new guy who raised some yellow flags in your subconscious threat assessment and you didn’t actually see him leave the property.
We tend to risk very little when we permit ourselves to trust our intuition. However, we risk a lot when we were restrict ourselves from listening to our intuition.
I believe we do our communities a disservice when we silence the things that God built into our instincts that help us create safer and more secure communities.
