Every single person wants to be happy. The problem is, most of us don't actually know what makes us happy. Because we mistake pleasure for joy, our life becomes a roller coaster ride, alternating between pleasurable highs and the painful craving that follows.
The fact is, there is no happiness in things or circumstances. If there were, life would be much easier. There is no object or activity that is universally beloved by all. There is nothing that will bring everyone happiness all the time. This is proof that happiness lies within us.
In today's KZbin video, I share some simple, powerful steps we can all take to nurture our joy within. I discuss ways we can lift our baseline level of happiness so that our highs become higher, and even our lows won't seem so bad.

For too long I've been told I don't meditate or 'focus' properly. A walk in the woods, a salt bath, running.... I am absolutely able to switch off my mind and focus on the present with any of those activities. I am so grateful that you have reinforced there isn't just one way. Thank you, I feel amazing ❤

So true! I am not good at sitting still and meditating BUT when I take a walk out in the woods. Anywhere out in nature, I am present. I am meditating 😊

Contentment, the state of happiness and satisfaction. Contentment leads to bliss, nature is so pleasurable, I am not content unless I spend time daily in nature. Sing in nature and watch the magic that will show itself to you. I had a beautiful angel appear to me in the sky, was the best day of my life. 👼❤ Thank you for sharing Todd, your videos are always so inspiring and a reminder to go within, everything is inside of us where true contentment lies.

I look forward to your clear, practical teachings, Todd. Many teachers' podcasts I find too abstruse, like grad classes in philosophy. I don't need to understand non-duality to be happy. Anyway, your time in advertising strengthens your communication. Thanks ❤😊

There is no system to follow or method, just simply being with oneself and nature. For the knowing of oneself is the beginning and ending of all misery. Sending love to all, keep working inwards and with Mother Earth. Xx

I feel like if a person genuinely found contentment and satisfaction, that person would be labeled as worthless to the society. We live in a society where we are expected to want more than what we have.

Jacqueline, I hope you've finally stopped by that temple! I drove past the local Buddhist monastery in Colorado for a decade, wondering what goes on there. Curiosity won me over, so I found their website, and accepted their standing invitation to join them for evening chanting and meditation. I was the only lay person there, with four monks and four nuns, all of them from Thailand. They spoke little English, but they made me feel welcome anyway. When I joined them for New Years eve last week, the temple was full of lay people, all of them Thai except me. Like the monastics, they made me feel welcome, and I couldn't be happier that I took the opportunity to meet my neighbors!

I was addicted to Asian massages (with extra). I spent a small fortune on them. I am so glad I can listen to this now, and relax, and know I don't have to look for anything external to feel good. Being addicted to massages was just as bad as any other addiction, and always left me craving more.

I've been struggling too. Buddha taught his students that we are causing our own suffering, and provided instructions to help us out of the holes we've been digging. Right here on youtube, you'll find lots of advice on the subject. Here' a general summary of the path the Buddha laid out for us. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYvRYYGfmqebe6s You'll find many more videos that talk about each of the eight steps along that path. It takes effort to make this advice an enduring part of your life, but you will find a sense of relief early on after you get started.
