15:37 the ones on the plate are egg rolls (since the egg is usually mixed into the batter as well as brushed on top for the golden brown color). And then spring rolls are made with rice paper (:
@bbymonkeyxD2 жыл бұрын
15:32 i call them spring roll and the one with rice paper is call summer roll. In the east coast egg roll is usually bigger and have a deep fried bubbly outer shell as compared to a spring roll which have a smoother shell. I only saw egg roll in chinese take out restaurant.

In hawaii, the raw ramen packet as a snack is forbidden at school to bring and I've been literally eating that these past few weeks. So yes, I still do it. Also, love to see mama meimei! Also, props to your editing skills. You really put in a lot of work with a lot of info. You do such a great job! When the beef jerky is so soft, I can literally eat that as a meal with rice

Hawaii local here! Spicy Ahi (and shoyu) poke are also found at the Costco's in Hawaii and other local grocery stores (fyi spicy ahi is one of the Hawaii local's favorite flavor of poke ;) ) At least for the Costco's here, they use fresh ahi which is why it's quite expensive ($19/lb) but definitely still the authentic poke and not that other fake poke sold on the mainland (Continental US) that uses edamame, corn, etc. and it's not even mixed! lol

The kasutera cake looks much more like the traditional type. The jiggly type is relatively new (at least in my memory). The one you have there that is more cakey is exactly how I remember it with the amazing brown carmelization of the sugar on the crust. So good!

Taiwanese castella is very likely a borrowed item from japanese washoku, western influenced Japanese cuisine. The castella you have here is the Japanese one and is typically quite sweet, the texture is also normal for it and still is sponge cake as opposed to creamed butter cake. Taiwanese castella is made with a souffle technique and is therefore going to look taste and feel entirely different. Also the rolls, the ones shown as spring rolls in the photo inserts seem more like Vietnamese summer rolls.

I call those little ones spring rolls. Maybe it’s a East Coast thing? The rule of thumb at restaurants near me is usually: egg rolls=large crispy fried rolls with a dark bubbly outer shell filled with cabbage and a meat at least, spring rolls=small fried rolls with a light smooth crispy shell and only vegetable filing (what vegetarians can order), and fresh/summer rolls=rice paper wrapped rolls with fresh vegetables and protein of your choice
