This was just the video I was looking for! I’m so glad you mentioned about learning colour theory and starting out with just the primary colours! It was a joy to look at the various shades of blues, greens, purples and the oranges that you swatched here 😇

I've been painting with Holbein Acrylic Gouache for years. I love how it dries with a matte finish. I prefer sealing it with a fixative and not using glass to frame it with. Unfortunately they have changed the formula with the fixatives. Now I have to test the new Golden MSA Varnish w/ UVLS, Matte and the Golden Acrylic High Flow Medium with these paints. Unfortunately it is too cold now to use these outdoors. I have a painting done for a client's daughter's Christmas present I may have to give her a framed photo of the painting to keep until it's warm enough in the spring.

I got the primary set to experiment, but I think I will add the ultramarine blue and the cool yellow you have here. I really loved the greens and purples you were able to get.

Color swatching is, in my opinion, my favorite part, because I learn a lot from what I see!

Get a stay-wet pallet off amazon, it keeps the acryla gouache wet for longer. Works amazing If you need to do a big piece.
@JessChungArt4 жыл бұрын
i definitely want to try that!

Thank you so much for sharing..love your painting and hearing your thoughts on gouache. I recently tried Acrlic Gouache for the first time. I am not fond of acrylic so thought I would not like these...but it is really growing on me.

I know how you feel! I was so hesitant to try acryla gouache as I thought it'd be much more similar to acrylics, but I actually really enjoy using it.

Oh wow that’s so interesting. I think acrylic gouache would just confuse me since I’m so used to gouache and use it’s water color type properties a lot since i started with a primary set of watercolors and I kinda don’t do as well with acrylics. I like to use all the possible ways I have with gouache.

Hi just bought my first acrylic gauche paints. Will I need new brushes or can I continue using my watercolour brushes? Love your lessons. Thank you.
@JessChungArt4 жыл бұрын
I would dedicate separate brushes to acryla gouache because they're a little more harsh on the brush. Unless your watercolour brushes are not very precious to you then sure you can use it interchangably. I would use watercolour/mix media brushes with acryla gouache. Hope this helps!

can you do a video for mixing greens with gouache,I really have a problem with that
@trevorcoles11622 жыл бұрын
You probably know this anyway, even with acrylic paint, just a short soaking with hot water lifts off the paint. Then scraping off the paint so much easier. Yes as other comments have suggested a stay wet pallet, is a good way.

I like it for layering. If I'm working on something that doesn't need as many layers then I completely agree, traditional gouache is so much better!

I bought one a while back but I haven't tried it yet as I don't paint with acryla gouache much. But I have heard that it resolves the drying issue!

Visual Mind has a video where she tried to paint traditional gouache over acrylic gouache. She says it doesn’t work well. Have you already tried it?
@JessChungArt4 жыл бұрын
Oooh interesting. I haven't tried that but I'll have to give it a go

Trying to layer a gum arabic-based paint directly on top of an acrylic paint doesn't work. The watercolor paint won't adhere.

What kind of paper do you use with acrylic gouash?

same paper as for gouache! any kind of watercolour or mix media paper works

I apply a few thin coats of gesso on the watercolor paper before I paint it with acrylic. The paint flows across the gesso'd paper so much more easily, plus it saves paint. It's kind of surprising how much less paint it takes to cover an area if the paper has first been gesso'd.
