True black jeans generally run smaller than other denim colours because the material isn't treated as much as lighter denim washes. This means the material is usually thicker and stiffer. Light wash denim requires a lot of work to get it to that colour and stay that colour. Hence also why darker denim does lose colour when you wash it.

Darker dyes in general tend to make fabric shrink more and be less elastic, it's not limited to jeans, but jeans and bras are fitted enough to make it noticeable, it'll usually ease with wear though.

What I love about Old Navy and that I've never seen another store do is that when you shop online, you can select what size models you see wear the clothes and it remembers your choice, so the next time you visit the website, you only see the size models you chose. That is life changing for me! I only shop online because I am short and plump and no chain ever carries petite sizes in store.

That's a brand new feature and noticed this week when I was browsing online. I'm a large/14 and it was great not having to guess if something runs too small or too big because the model is like a size 0 and no indication how it will look on me. This is definitely a game changer!

Not only are there often online-only promotions, but sometimes you'll actually find your items for a lower price. The day I bought the overalls, there was a 30% off sale on their website, so they were like $15 less online.

I literally found the best pair of mom jeans at old navy back in April, they were on the clearance rack and I paid $20 for them, the style is called "Extra High-Waisted Sky Hi Straight" and ever since then I've ordered every wash of jeans available!

@@esthekatie sorry to hear that. They have different fabrics and thickness. I think I have most of them? Not sure. I too have cellulite and I don't see it showing. Usually lighter colors show imperfections more easily, so I don't own more than 2 or 3 light ones, but so far nothing shows. Maybe try a different style or size up when trying lighter colors. The thicker compression leggings are smoothing (over bulges, cellulite) and keeps everything from spilling out. You have to try more than one style to find the right one and size up or down to get a better fit. I have a few things from Athleta, Target, Macy's, but I always go back to ON. Once you know your size in their styles, it rarely disappoints. I've been wearing their activewear clothing for over 3 years and I still enjoy them. They are well made and no problem after washing them all these years.

Personally as a curvy short girl i love old navy. The high rise is truly highrise on short girls. But one thing about old navy standard size is if you are at least 5'4" or under the jeans are too long. So even though im a size 14 i always go online and order petite size 14. I know we shouldnt have to shop online and all shapes and sizes should be able to get it in store but old navy has some of the best jean costumization online. I would recommend ordering jeans online and getting the tall option and seeing is it helps!

Try Old Navy TALLS for extended sizing; longer torso, longer "wingspan", and higher rise - different than "long" which is just about length. I can always cut off or hem things. Although the white overalls looked amazing.

I’m 5’11” and Old Navy tall pants always have an inseam that’s way too long for me, unless it’s a cropped fit. Their tall sizes are definitely pretty “tall” compared to some other brands that make the tall sizes for people 5’7” or 5’8”.

I feel like most stores in general do not take into consideration that most people in America are at least a size large which then causes issues with availability in stores because L and XL or sizes 10-16 sell out the fastest. Stores that sell plus sizes or even a XXL are few and far between also which can further cause these sizes to sell out faster when they are available. I don’t have retail experience in any chain stores but I worked at a boutique for years and when we would order from companies we couldn’t select specific sizes of an item so if we ordered a top it would automatically come in a pack with 3 smalls, 2 mediums and 1 large. The large would sell out almost immediately and the smalls would often have to be put on sale. Same with our plus size options, we would get 3 1X, 2 2x and 1 3x. It was very frustrating.

That happens with major dept stores too. We'd unbox thousands in s-m-l and there would be 2 in XXL. That's it. If you wanted a XXL the price was $50. And they'd sell in a day. Everything else was discounted to $20 or less within the month. I had long conversations with store buyers over this. "Nothing they could do". Money doesn't talk in fashion.

I used to work at Old Navy on the shipment team. When we received shipments, new clothing items would come with 1 xs, 2 small, 2 med, 2 large, 1 xl, and 1 xxl in each color/print typically so I think its a problem with the supply stores receive(we never actually knew what they'd send us.) The stores aren't supplied with enough of the larger sizes which is what they typically sell more of.

Many stores have that problem. That's why sale racks are usually small sizes. It seemed like "inclusive sizing" was a marketing gimmick (AEO?) with so few in larger sizes. ON seems to be making an honest effort but there's a high demand too.

I am an old navy employee and I definitely will say that the pandemic has really affected our inventory, we don’t get large quantities of items at a time and the most “common” sizes go very quickly. My store in particular is a lower impact store so we get less inventory than a larger store does. It seems to be picking up slowly which is good. I personally think that our size inclusive launch was not done at the best time but it is a step in the right direction

I actually work in an Old Navy and I know that my store is having a really hard time getting product in. Like a lot of other industries, just getting products on the shelves is taking a lot longer right now, so that’s most likely the reason why you’re not seeing as much product in that store as well. Probably not the best time for them to be releasing this new sizing system, but it can only get better from here! Also, I recommend trying the Slouchy straight jeans next time you go! Those are my new favorites.

Hi Carrie! I’m so happy you went to the store I work at ON in Massachusetts. The low stock thing is an issue across the US because shipping is backed up due to COVID. We offer order in store because otherwise at home you have to spend $50 to get free shipping whereas when you do it in store it’s free regardless! I was so excited to see that Old Navy not only was starting this initiative but was actually putting into practice in their stores already however I do have an issue with their sizing. I'm a size 18 but I've always been able to fit into XXL at Old Navy so I've never bought plus size clothing there because it's only been available online and it was more expensive. I recently compared the same dress same style same color even in the store wearing an XXL and wearing a 1X and I was shocked how much smaller the actual plus sizes were compared to the quote unquote normal sizes. An XXL fit more like a 2X or even a 3X when I was trying them on in store. I just hope with the sizing discrepancies that it doesn't give bigger women a complex thinking they are too big of a size when normally they would fit in XXL now they're having to wear a 3X to get the same exact fit.

That's so strange you had that experience, I bought a lot from old Navy's plus line online over the years and recently went to check out the new line. I wear a 2x pretty universally at old Navy (or their XXL from the original sizing) and I'm still the same size in store. I was super happy to be able to try on jeans as I would have bought a size bigger than I needed if I hadn't tried them on.

My experience is the proportions are different. I wear a XXL but 2X is SMALLER than a XXL in the bust by apx 1" or so, but wider in the hips. I've noticed a number of sizing charts (not just ON) change proportions with 1X being smaller than XXL in the bust. It's not an inch added everywhere.

i only had issues with the inconsistent fit. i exclusively wore old navy denim for a few years, and i THOUGHT that i could just go in and grab the same style of the same jean in different washes and they’d all fit, but that was NEVER the case. once, i bought two pairs of the rockstar high rise jeans in the same size. they were the exact same jean in every way. one was way too tight in the waist and the other fit perfectly.

How to check if the rise is high enough: Some stores list their high rise jeans at about 11 to 11.5 inches on average. Check online before going into stores. If you want a HIGH rise jean, look for 12.5 minimum to 13.5. 13.5 is about the highest I've seen in any given store and is the height I like best. Once you see the rise height, try them in store to confirm the fit. 😊

YES!!! The standard is actually 10.5" for "high rise" which can be measured in front OR back (technically). Manufacturers have figured out a way to rebrand mid-rise as high rise - like we wouldn't notice? Torrid sky high are 11". AEO can run 13"-14" in mom jeans. Old Navy is all over the place. Some of their mid-rise can be 12" rise, higher than their "high-rise" (measured from the front only). Some brand at Target specifically states rise is measured from the back for high rise. The front rise is the same (mid rise). The label says high rise.

I found Old Navy was one of the few stores that had cute jeans that fit me properly. I also was able to buy the proper length because I'm short. I love that they're putting all the sizes in one area. The last time I was in an Old Navy and buying pjs they had all the pj sizes together but everything else was separated. I ordered my snow coat like that because I needed a size up on a nice snow coat from Sportcheck. I was happy it wasn't extra for shipping...They actually gave me the sale price too

I feel like Old Navy skews for short folks. I was a Banana employee for ages, when they came out with the little iphones you could Order In Store from. They are awesome and it actually does get tracked for them to know what sizes or styles are doing better in certain stores. Old Navy is a GAME CHANGER! They carry true EXTENDED size TALLS! Meaning longer torso, longer arms, longer rises. It's amazing. But don't order "long" that's just the length - you need talls. It’s great that Old Navy is moving in this direction, but they definitely have work to do. I’ve gotten a lot of IG ads for them recently, but whenever I see something cute and click through it is only available in their old straight sizes. So I don’t know where the line is with their “every item, every size” thing. BUT I have those dolphin hem sleep shorts and I looooove them. So soft and cool. They don’t feel as restrictive as the boxer style shorts I always got at Old Navy previously.

I just got 2 pairs of the extra high waisted wide leg jeans yesterday and they are AMAZING! Very retro cut- nice and high rise and super flattering! I still had to buy them online because I need talls, but I managed to order them on a day when most jeans were 50% off- so I got 2 pairs for 40 bucks total!

I've always hated the fit of old navy jeans. They're always loose in weird spots on me and I always have a waist gap even if I size down 😭 LOVEEEEEE seeing you in the dressing room again though!

My favorite pair from Old navy are the Wide leg Extra high rise I'm an 18. I had to trim mine because I'm 5'0 and i think they are just a standard length, but I love them. The thing with old navy stores is they are always all over the place with their inventory, its super messy and your lucky if you find your size. Also totally agree with white jeans, I am always tempted to buy them but they are always kind of see through, why is that? Also yes, black jeans do seem to run smaller in my experience as a frequent jean buyer. loved the video, thank you for all your work!

im very tempted to go into old navy again just because im curious if it was just your store that didnt have a lot of options or what but i've always struggled when trying to find jeans that fit me and have the look i want but those jeans looked so good on you i feel like i can at least try and boost how i view myself!

Over the past like year and a half, I’ve become an Old Navy customer. With weight gain and not fitting just right into Madewell jeans anymore, I was lucky to find my size (18) available at Old Navy. I started a job earlier this year that requires jeans as uniform so I stocked up and placed a huge order online. I found that the Sky Hi Straights stretch a little too much after one wear to the point of being too baggy before the next wash. The sky hi skinny became my staple because of the comfortable stretch, but unfortunately the inner thighs have ripped (on multiple pairs) after 5 months in. It’s disappointing since you don’t know that during initial use, and you expect better quality for a price of $60-$65. I will say I like Old Navy for dresses/jumpsuits, matching sweatsuits, and cute blouses. Their Super Cash system is a great way to save too.

When it comes to our size not being in stock while seeing that all of the smaller sizes are still there, you have to remember that the average American woman is a size 14/16 so that’s the most grabbed for size usually. Stores need to start actually ordering MORE xl, 14/16 clothes for that reason alone.

Carrieeee! They have their "higher high waisted" and those are even higher than the extra high!!! I haven't tried them but I'd LOVE to see you try them!!!

Just a tip for if you try them online, they do sell long so if the waist fits but is a tad short or the rise is a tad short that might help
