It also reinforces that RPG leveling people love so much. Why not put an impossibly hard enemy at the beginning? Try him out a few times, say nope no way, come back to him much later, and it's actually a fair fight. Each level up seems so small and incremental, but it all slowly adds up.

Man, how can people be so obtuse. The moment I saw the tree sentinel I knew I wasn't supposed to tackle him just right away. I tried like 5 times and realized I was too underleveled.
@MatthewCJoy2 жыл бұрын
The problem was that Joe didn't just go to other areas and explore other things before fighting bosses he was too under leveled for. It's an open world game, just go and explore other things. It's not his fault though, he's too used to modern cookie cutter open world games that literally hold your hand and tells you where to go constantly and puts markers on the map of where EVERYTHING is. Not trying to suck Elden Ring off or anything, I have plenty of personal problems with the game, but it's an open world game that is actually about exploring not another open world game that TELLS you what to explore and where. An actual exploration game.

I'm other games the lack of explanation is annoying because the world is so empty, but Elden Ring gives you a big pile of tools to use, dumps you in a sandbox that's fine with fun stuff to find, same gives you just enough guidance so you know what the objective is but lets you go about that however you want. I was almost Lv 70 before fighting Godrick because 1) I suck, and 2) I just kept finding cool stuff by running around and exploring random places. Even just grinding runes from the Vulgar Militia is fun, because improving your assassination technique is immediately fulfilled with tangible rewards at any level.

His move set is pretty easy after awhile make sure to memorize his attack pattern. Next charge your heavy attack before every strike and then run out of the way. Make sure your always holding down sprint he's incredibly fast with Op strikes. Stick and move with heavy attacks and you will defeat him. Well done guys! Couple of things I´d like to point out: There was a tutorial telling how you can equip spirit summons and steed summoning in a separate system, where you don´t have to put them in the same place where your normal items (healing etc.) are used. Makes things a lot easier. Another big thing, horseback fighting is a new feature in Souls games like Joe noticed. Another hugely important new thing is jumping attacks. Those will benefit in many situations. For me (having a big sword) jumping R2 attack is probably my most used attack in the game. Covers nice distance, does big damage and is good for guardbreaking /poise breaking. Hope this helps a bit and I hope you enjoy the game. I sure do!

SOme pieces of advice: -Explore, do not hesitate to explore, a LOT, while the game is HUGE, it is densely packed with stuff to find, enemies to confront and rewards to collect, it is an Open world, where Exploration is (mostly) rewarded. And there is MANY secrets to find. Be wary that the game doesn't scale around you, so you'll end up in places that you're under leveled and have no business and get your ass handed to you. -There is always (in 80% of the casses at least) Another way or another solution to a problem. Once again, its an Open world, if you're stuck someplace or on something, go back and explore a bit more and find something else to do, sometimes you'll find a key item, or a piece of gear/spell/weapon that will GREATLY help you with the obstacle that you had. -DOn't be afraid to upgrade your weapons, you'll find LOTS of items that allows to upgrade your weapons, while you won't be able to Upgrade EVERY weapons in a single run, you can have a couple of weapons that are upgraded. WHile your stats are important, it is the level of upgrades that do factor in the most when damage are calculated. -DO NOT SKIP ON VIGOR, no matter the kinda build you wanna make, be at least in the 25-30 Vigor is a huge boon. Seen too many people running with 15 Vigor then complaining that the NPC's and Bosses where One shotting them... -If you struggle, when you can, USE THE SPIRIT SUMMONS, no matter what anyone says, if they are IN the game, its for a reason, they are an integral part of the game, you can challenge yourself to not use them, but it would be a shame honestly. -Depending on personal tastes/believes, do not hesitate to watch some builds or early guides, there is QUITE a lot of weapons/spells and Ashes of War that you can pick VERY EARLY in the game, to get an headstart with any kinda build you have in mind. Preparation can make a difference. -Use the custom markers on the map!, there is a LOT of things that you can find, and Outside key locations and NPC's, Sites of Graces, anything else is NOT marked on the map, so its up to you to do it. -Contrary to other Souls games, you can Jump at will, Jumping attacks can also greatly help. -Don't sleep on crafting and crafting recepies books, most of the items that be really usefull and are relatively easy to make. -Don't agonize too much about your build/stats if you made a mistake. You can respec, it does require you to beat a Story boss in a later Zone and it require an item that is not infinite and that is a drop loot, but it is possible to redo completly a character. -HAve fun, YES its still a Souls game, with its challenge, but Fromsoft gave much more tools in the toolbox for you to choose from, making it more "accesible" but not neccesarly easy.

I hope you're still having fun with the game and able to overcome some of the many challenges. I'm hoping for an Angry Review no matter how late the review is. I'm thoroughly enjoying the hell out of this game. It's kind of fun to watch someone who has no idea what's going on. It's a little bit surprising how many people are picking this game up as their first Fromsoft game. I think Dark Souls 1 or Demon's Souls are more approachable entries into the series to learn the ropes. Elden Rings is basically Dark Souls 3 but massively expanded, and Dark Souls 3 was already a very deep and expansive game.

Magic makes a lot of things easier in the over world, but it makes a lot of the bosses a whole lot harder to deal with. A good many of them are too fast, aggressive, and will one shot you the second you try to cast a spell on them. Magic being easy mode is inaccurate. Eventually you will still need to "git good".

this game is different because its open world instead of condensed. if a boss is kicking your butt you can move to a different area and come back. they've also evolved the flask system and i dont think the crafting system is as big in the souls games as here. they also added guard counter. finally, the game brings in folks like me that didnt like the souls games but likes the challenge. this game meshes "accessibility" with challenge to give you the best of both worlds. and the world is cool as hell.

Dang Joe. By the 3 hour mark when you asked if people were in that section for as long as you, when you had managed to level up 1 time, and made absolutely no progress in the game. I had probably leveled up 15 times. Switched weapons several times. Had leveled up my mace. Maybe explored 2 or 3 different caves. Killed a few boss enemies. Unlike you Joe I never cleared a single place more than 1 time. Didn't do any grinding of any zone. While you still look like you don't know how to play or fight. Then you think you need to grind to be able to kill stuff when the only reason you need to grind is because you are bad at the game. Once you grind enough to learn to play then you'll realize that you don't need to grind at all. lol. The entire time I kept thinking for the love of God Joe fucking sprint already. Keep at it though.... and once you learn how to play you'll never have trouble with any souls like game.

The obj is to defeat bosses to go through dungeions and become strong enough to be elden lord. Its not an mmo or a farming sim. As someone who has been playing From games since Demon's Souls I think that this games gameplay and build variety are clearly the best of all From games but the map design, aesthetic and lore are worse than dark souls 1, dark souls 3, bloodborne and even sekiro. If you go into this game and play it like a traditional souls game you will likely start geting bored by your third or fourth region of killing gargoyles, skeletons or minors every dungeon, you will also likely be overleveled for most of your playthrough (if you are playing it like a tradional souls game, meaning if you are doing every single dungeon, exploring every single part of the map, etc). Personaly the aesthetic of these games is very important for me, and I find that most bosses cant compare to the other games bosses. Again this is just my opinion but I find that the best areas are by far the "Legacy Dungeons" (the big castle main areas), which essentially play as normal fromsoftware areas with the adition of jumping and stealth (which I think are great mechanics). I also love the lore of these games, in Elden Ring however I feel that the lore is even more vague than in the other games to a level that makes it a detriment to the game. After 80 hours of non stop playing this game since release I still cant explain what the aesthetic of this game is, if I had to explain it I would just say: "It's Dark Souls but every now and then you see someone with a few extra limbs or red hair" TLDR: - Open World is a detriment to the complex and detailed map design of a traditional Fromsoftware game - Combat is by far the best in any Fromsoftware game - Has no discernible aesthetic besides red hair and extra body parts on some people - Has incredible build variety - Dungeons are all either Skeletons, Gargoyles or miners (with the occasional demi humans) - Bosses are not as memorable as some of the other FromSoftWare games - Jumping, Stealth and the horse are fantastic features - Love FromSoftWare, love Elden Ring, I don't think it is better than Dark Souls 1, Dark souls 3 or Bloodborne. - haveniceday
