The Cooper T81 or Ferrari as you said would be a bit easier than the BRM! Daring choice of car! Glad to see you having fun with the ol sim!

I thought it would be safe 😂. I did throw the Eagle around Spa without any issues so it has to be the cars fault not mine 🤔 But yes it is great fun & will definitely be putting in the time to improve so hopefully won't be too long before I can manage a full season 😁

Glad to see newcomers to GPL, now prepare to be in this rabbithole for a few more years at least! Keep improving, if i can win races with keyboard you can win (maybe even online races) with your wheel. Cheers and a happy new year!

Yeah don't worry I will be playing this a lot more! In fact I may struggle balancing AC & GPL content from now on 😂 Happy New Year to you too! 😊

Seems to be the case with a lot of people in sim racing, I feel like I've missed out or was born too late, one of the two 😂 Still though, better late than never as they say 😅 Btw, love the Rouen-Les-Essarts track that I bought from your website the other day, its a blast! 😁

Skatey skatey BRM there. My advice would be too look at raising your rear ride height, soften the whole thing and have a look at your ramp angles as you've got some on power understeer going on, you may want to sharpen those up. These cars are absolute beasts though, and the BRM is arguably one of the most docile of the lot (The Lotus 49 will kill you if you look at it funny). The main thing is practice practice practice. Oh and the Mods are an absolute blast once you're comfy in the '67 spec. The main thing though is the awe this inspires for the guys who were actually on the grid in the 60s. No aero assistance, fully manual cars, crappy low grip cross ply rubber with far less predictable behaviour, and a lot of power for the weight. All on zero error circuits. No belts, no crash structures, sitting in a bathtub of racing fuel . . . Staggering.

Thank you for the advice, I will admit I'm terrible when it comes to set-ups, but I appreciate that & ill note that down for next time! I know I was terrible in 60's F1 cars when I first started in AC so I know with time I should be able to be comfortable with GPL 😅 It really was a dangerous time for racing & my hat goes off to all of them who drove these things knowing full well that they may not be alive come the end of the race. Their mindsets were arguably equal to that of fighter pilots in the Second World War. Jackie Stewarts new film which released a couple of days ago, touches on the impact deaths on track had on Jackie such as Rindt & Cevert. Hearing Jackie break down talking about Francois was hard to listen to

I noticed the ramp angles behaviour, loose the back on throttle power. Either be softer with the throttle (regulate) or lower the ramp angles

We played this game when it came out on shoddy azz controls. I even built my own wheel base as I loved this game so much back then. Nowadays you have $3K dollar pedal sets and direct drive wheels and control is superb compared to what we drove with.....lol back in my day!

The great thing about Grand Prix legends, is the ability to very simply modify the A.I. straight line and cornering speed values in the appropriate file. You can ‘tailor make’ the A.I. to suit your own learning ability, and when you’re at the point where you are more competent, tweak the A.I. up a notch to always have competition either at your level or slightly better for a more challenging game. Great fun.

Welcome to the wonderful and aggravating world of GPL, the BEST damn racing simulator EVER!!! Bought this when it first came out. And it's the ONLY game that is on my computer. I LOVE/HATE this game, because it has a big learning curve. It's NOT a shift and smash the accelerator type game. You need to try and drive it with a real car mentality. Though it suppose to be a "simulation", of how GP racing was in the 60's, there are still some annoying things that are far from realistic. One of my continued gripes is how easily the ai cars can recover from an accident. If you happen to get tangled up with an ai car off the track onto the grass, the ai cars can spin their cars on a dime in the other direction, hardly very realistic. Another problem is, an ai car can punt you in the back and spin you off; do the same to them in most cases, nothing will happen. The ai car are too aggressive. If you do any reading about how race drivers were in the 60's, they were less willing to do stupid things, because. as in 1967, F1 cars didn't have seat belts. On the other hand, ai cars do stupid things a LOT, that would put in the REAL world situation, the other drivers life in danger. One more gripe. Engine noise level. If other cars are near me, I cannot hear my OWN engine sound! And personally, I judge my engines RPM ( when to shift ) more by sound of the engine. And if I cannot hear my own, it is too easy to apply too much throttle. Don't know how realistic this is. But it seems to be, if there is an engine strapped to my arse, so to speak, my own engine sound would be more apparent? Of course, it is still a game. Because truth be known, if in REAL life, 99.99% of EVERYONE who plays this, if we drove a REAL 67 F1, could NEVER compete and out perform the likes of Jimmy Clark, Graham Hill or Sir Black Jack Brabhams. Matter of fact, 99.99% would have troubles keeping up with Guy Ligier or a Bob Anderson!!😆😆 But still, enjoy the love/hate relationship with GPL. The simulation rewards, common sense and punishes stupidity!! It will also improve your swear word vocabulary.....a LOT!!!!😆😆😆😆😆

Yeah it really does have a steep learning curve & it's a lot more difficult than any other sim that I've tried 😅. Another video on this is long overdue but my skills on it aren't quite ready for what I consider video worthy just yet 😬. Hopefully soon though with a bit more practice 👍

I would have thought that maybe Monza or the old Watkins Glen would be easier than Silverstone even. Reims is also a pretty simple layout.
@MotorMad
@MotorMad 2 жыл бұрын
I normally struggle at the Glen & I felt like Monza was a bit too easy so I thought of Silverstone because it offers a bit of both but I'm fairly comfortable with the circuit. I do know which track I'll be trying next though!

Do a search for Steve Smith Four Wheel Drive. It is a 100 page manual/guide to GPL. It will explain the differences between the cars. The BRM is definitely a difficult car to master. The Cooper is far more driveable.

I bought this game in '98 when I bought my first computer. I love it. My next computer was a MAC( and subsequent ones) and GPL isn't compatible with it unless I run Windows(which I hate) on my MAC. Plus I just don't have the time I used to for it. Maybe I will get a PS6 or the like to play it. I still have the CD.

That's pretty awesome that you still have the CD! I still own my first racing game on disk which was Burnout 2 for the original Xbox 😊. I hope I brought just a little bit of nostalgia for you 😅

Anyone knows how to get GEM+ working? I keep getting a "fatal error" every time I try to start or exit the GEM menu...
