My 2.5TD (19J) sounds exactly the same on idle, & always has. I'll be subscribing and keeping my eye out! :) I've honestly never disassembled the injectors, so that could be on the cards soon.

Hi Mike we had a Fordson tractor which was missfiring so we had the injectors tested and they turned out to be fine, so we had the old simms injection pump stripped and found that 2 springs inside had sheered. Engine now runs A1.

A bent pushrod can cause misfiring when the engine is made to pull, but can look OK when not running. But I think that the pump and injectors should be checked out if the motor is going to be used. I dont think that I will sleep to-night worrying about this now Mike. Hurry up and put me out of my misery. Best wishes, Yorkshire Rob.

Since the compression is good, I'd be looking at the injection system. The difference in spray patterns would concern me - the V-pattern looks wrong and could lead to piston failure. I'd be pulling all of them and soaking them in injector cleaner before flushing them on your rig, and if I couldn't get matched patterns, I'd replace them. Bad injectors do far worse than cause bad running. I'm a bit suspicious of the injector pipes, too - they can crack, and a bad repair or internal corrosion or obstruction could be why cylinder 3 is affected most regardless of injector swaps.

I think although the injectors are not spraying 100%, they are firing and not dribbling and even when I swap then round the problem is still there Pipes look un touched but when it stop raining I have made a manometer to see what is coming out of the pump

Looking like a failing delivery valve in the pump in no.3 delivery line, I'd start will volume check from each line, just four small jars and crank it see if no.3 valve is restricted. Next if you still have the electric fuel pump installed run that while turning the motor over slowly, if fuel runs out of line 3 just under low pump pressure the delivery valve has failed.

Thats not a hole for a machine gun that land rover was an ex red top safety vehicle from BATUS in Suffield its to let the safety stand up and See where he is going so he doesnt fall in any holes or hit rocks when chasing the armoured vehicles across the praire.

You should See a few Bolt holes round it where they had a little table on the roof so you could put your map in it in Front of you thats also Why the rover is painted red they mostly only it to the old landrovers but some Wolfs as well but Not many most chase vehicles there are gmc pickups all wir holes cut in the roofs and little tables mounted

Also if you need some brand new injectors i have a brand new set that you can have for the price of postage if that helps you out i donot really see any of those engines anymore

Claudia Franz I have a BATUS GMC Sierra 4x4 crew cab that is white with red lines painted on the doors and it has a round hole in the roof above the right rear passenger position. All of the tray for maps you described was removed when sold so I too thought it was for gun turret practice.

Is the fuel getting to the number 3 injector? Blocked line? Pump? I am just throwing things in the mix to see if it leads somewhere.

Yes Harvey = I was working up to that but we had a storm just after I did the compression test! I am following your logic on that the pump may not be correct If it dries up, I will pop some clear plastic pipe on the ends of the injector pipes and see what the pump is putting out There is something amiss with this motor - someone has been trying to figure it out and it has not been rebuilt, as it is not green, but the original red block - speedo shows 29,000Km Compressions with 4% but I do not know what the correct figures should be Coolant pressure is good

Very low mileage so hopefully nothing too wrong with it. Let's hope it hasn't been running on chip fat. I still think about that pump now!

Injection pump delivery pressure rotary pumps are famous for it

A pressure gauge between pump and injector or a just a gauge on pump will give you the pressure after that it gets very tricky trying to find delivery volume and pressure combined accurately. More of a pump room job than in the field . Have come across the problem in CAV . Lucas and yanmar pumps . Took ages to work it out the first couple of times as the pressure were that close just using a gauge, when they are worn it only takes a few psi difference between working and not . You will chase your tail and second guess everyone does the first couple of times

I checked the volume and they are all equal -nothing obvious amiss - the whole system needs to go and be tested but here they insist on stripping pumps prior to testing - by the time you have paid that you might as well get one from the UK and suck up the core charge - About £500 here for a re con pump

Britannica Restorations Ltd it is like that here I Australia to , just had the one on my 300tdi done was leaking more fuel than the Exxon Valdez , full rebuild and wound up 15% from stock cost $1200 aud . Still do better than 30 imperial mpg without as much fade up hill . I think you are going to have to bite the bullet and send it in to get done , probably due for a rebuild anyway . I am a firm believer in getting pumps setup in a pump room rather than playing around with them myself mainly because I have seen way to many destroyed motors from ppl with a little bit of knowledge playing with stuff they should never touch . Truck driver are the worst for it followed by backyard so called Diesel engine tuners am sure you have seen the same

I had the injectors tested and they were ok but at about 90% good with all 4 even pressures I had a look at the delivery valves - quite simple but I think the seats may need a facing - no broken parts There is no local pump room any more here The truck place had an injector tester but they sent the pumps away
