W123 Oil Pan replacement, Cleaning and degreasing engine bay

I found my W123s oil pan to be seeping oil from near the drain plug. I'm not sure if this is due to damage to the pan creating a small hole, or if the drain plug just wasn't sealing well, but either way, I'm not thrilled with dents in the oil pan, I'm not sure how long that damage has been there, as I can't remember hitting anything.
All the usual places I link to that offer me commissions are double, triple the price or just plain don't have these parts available, So I did not purchase from any of them, and instead of linking some stupidly expensive option that I didn't even use myself, here are links to where I found the best deal.

Yeah I would change the oil pan to after stripping The threads .. For Degreaser I use A chemical called DW Davies DC-99 Degreaser ... It's made here in my hometown Racine Wi Really awesome good stuff I think I have a video on it lol Can't wait to see more videos on the car 👍

I will check out that degreaser, I'm always looking for a good degreaser! My brother just got a Hotsy pressure washer though, so I may try that out too, I've heard the hot pressure washers really melt the caked on grime right off!

@trythistv Pressure washer that's awesome I'm going to get one sometime soon But yeah I used the DC 99 Degreaser For many years but I used it on my mercedes And sprayed with a regular garden hose Took off a lot Didn't even use a brush lol But will use the DC 99 With my friend's pressure washer To get a super clean Keep the good videos coming 👍

I have the metal oil cap on my w116 300sd and did you know the replacement gasket for the fuel tank cap and oil cap are the same.

I have heard that, Isn't there a 2nd rubber seal inside the cap that is near impossible to replace? I used to have a 1980 W116, Was my very first car. One day I should do a video of all the cars I've owned over the years, I do miss my W116, it was an incredibly good car, just the rust from its northern life did not do it any favors and my finances would not let me do the repairs needed. Somebody in Alabama bought it and said he restored W116s and was either going to use parts from mine or fix all the rust. I hope it was the latter and it still drives around today, but even if it gave its heart and soul to another rust free car, it lives on!

@@trythistv not difficult at all and no secondary seal on either one. The only down side is that the diesel cap takes some muscle to remove. 5 min job for both caps.

Good eye! That is my Grey car, it is a 1982 300D just like the blue car in the videos, but it spent a lot of time sitting in a field before I got it, so the floorpans and rocker panels are in need of rust repair. I 4 speed manual swapped it, as well as traded the garrett turbo out for the kkk k26, and swapped to a 2.88 rear diff ratio, probably some other stuff I did to it as well. I keep debating what to do with it, Its pretty rough interior wise, and not very good exterior wise either, so I fear selling it would just end up with someone scrapping it, which I don't want to happen. I've thought about trying to turn it into a racecar, I've thought about trying to get it back to a mint condition daily, I suspect either option is going to cost far more than I can afford, and more than it is worth. If anything happens to the engine or transmission in the blue car, it may become a parts vehicle, but for now it is a backup in case one of our other vehicles breaks down.

Lovit!@@trythistv Whenever I buy an old car I love I immediately think "I should get another one of these". I'd love to have a 230E/280E and a diesel. Maybe one in perfect nick and the other just reliable and not too worried about getting it dirty

I should do a video of my automotive history, I bought a W116 as my first car that had been wrecked, my brother and I repaired it (he did a lot more work than I did, he knows all about paint and body repair stuff), while I had that car my dad and brother had several W123s and a W124. I'll see if I can dig up any photos or stuff from back then, might be interesting!

If you couldn't get them out, I would highly recommend a set of these: amzn.to/41WlIJQ They work wonders for rounded off bolts, should have the size you need to grab and get those out, then replace them with some new ones: amzn.to/46GSIXU
