Eli has interviewed Tim Kirby twice for her channel. She knows what he's like. And to be fair to Eli, she does look rather uncomfortable with him. Which suggests to me that she is being leant on to use her platform to air his pro-Kremlin views. I suspect her channel has always had Kremlin funding. She announced recently that she now works for the Russian Geographical Society in Kaliningrad, so she is now officially in the service of the state. Again, to be fair to Eli, I think she is conflicted over the whole Ukraine crisis. She's obviously intensely patriotic as her 'Victory Day' video indicated which Conor covered recently. But I sense she's uneasy about the atrocities against Ukraine which can't have escaped her attention. Nevertheless, she's never once expressed any empathy for the suffering of Ukrainians. Only self-pity and outrage for the sanctions which she sees as examples of grossly unfair "Russophobia".

I've become a bit disappointed in Eli. I enjoyed her pre-Feb. 24th content and still do like her travel videos (still subbed) but she has struggled to grasp some things before. For example, she made a big deal out of US embassy warnings about going to Chechnya and Dagestan - standard practice for governments to warn their citizens about potential dangers - it's not an order not to go somewhere. And this interview with this lunatic is a complete shitshow. The first time she interviewed him was ridiculous but to do it a second time despite the backlash from subscribers is a bit suspicious. She says she doesn't want to dabble in politics but this video is political and the way she phrases questions is just odd. Sure go ahead and be down about travel restrictions and how the world has changed but there's better ways to go about that than interviewing a RT mouthpiece who has no idea what he's talking about. I'm surprised he didn't mention lizard people.

Eli's channel is censored. Tim Kurby is from Russia Today, which is state controlled and santioned by the West. 1 of 2 things happend: either Eli was forced to air this interview or she did self censor herself, meaning she was afraid that she will get in trouble and this interview will turn the state favorable towards her. Self-censorship is actually more common in dictatorships, cause people are afraid and prefer to be in favor with the state. You could say that this is an interview and it's not Eli's opinion. This could be true, if she made an interview with somebody representing the opposite view. Than she would be neutral presenting both sides, but she didn't do that. A state media representative wouldn't collaborate with her, if she would show both sides, since the state media only collaborates with people who only spread their propaganda.

Wow... that is so bonkers. I actually laughed out loud at her "interview". I hate to be derogatory about people, but American pro-Russian propagandists do all seem to be......"not quite right". Definitely on a spectrum somewhere. I have for the first time in my life been trolled for commenting on your videos, so I guess I must be doing something right :) As a display of democracy (the decision is in the hands of the trolls), for every nonsense comment that they post, I will be donating more money to the Ukrainian military. Sadly, I don't think they care about the Russian peasantry being sent to die for their Tsar in his ivory tower. Certainly, he seems to wear the emperor's new clothes. Even sadder to appreciate that this will be nothing other than the shame of Russia for generations.

Guess what.....most of the people have been displaced and placed in filtration camps by the Russian invasion so where do the contributions really go and who is benefited? Previously, quite a while ago, she did one very whitewashed video about Russia's "gulag museum" which is a massively cleaned-up version of what real gulags were like. You'd be pressed to find anything related to any political bias, and even if there was, she isn't under obligation to say anything which isn't true to herself. From your comment I doubt you've spent a single minute in Russia . I remember very early in the conflict I watched one of her videos and was taken aback by one line she said that was something like " there's a lot of confusion as people try to find out who's to blame for this" as she was complaining about "Russiaphobia" directed towards her. It was an obvious eye-opener because in fact nobody was "trying to figure out who's to blame". It's obvious who's to blame and she does downplay it.

@@johanmetreus1268 Yeah probably not. I've been watching a lot of those 1420 Russian sort of man on the street polling videos and to my amazement, I have to admit the people in Russia genuinely seem to believe that had it not been for Russia's pre-emptive attack on Ukraine, that Ukraine and the U.S were on the cusp of attacking them. This is something I wouldn't have believed before because it seems so incredibly illogical that Ukraine would do this that nobody is going to believe it, but as I've seen interview after interview, its obvious that Russian propogandists were pretty successful in planting that seed. However, I think the more "city" people were well aware that almost nobody outside of Russia was trying to figure out who was to blame.

I almost felt sorry for Eli once the interview got really super cringy. The funny thing about Eli is that she has been a somewhat subtle propaganda channel for years. Mostly she has been just promoting Russian culture. When you watch her videos about Chechnya it becomes pretty darned obvious that she is pushing propaganda. I don't often watch her channel, though I did watch the video with Tim Kirby. I think the best thing about that interview is knowing that Tim Kirby is in Russia. Hopefully he stays there. When he starts talking about Russian women, and women in general the guy comes off like a psychopath. Its kind of a strange trend with RT. From Scott Ritter to Tim Kirby, I can't help wondering if Russia somehow has a cultural bias in favor of potential and active sex offenders.

So, she went into an apparent holiday in Africa, Tanzania, heading to kilimangiaro (now she's pretty passioante about sport travels) but when I was watching it disappeared. I tried to find it out everyhere on her socials but nothhing, it vanished. Before it shutted down, she said for the next 10 days she will be on ascension so see you after this time. But now , 18 hours ago, appeared a video on food in yacuzia with her host maria. So, 1) why kilimangiario video disappeared 2) how you can edit a video while climbing a mountain in AFRICA? I think she has someone doing the excellent video editing for her, due to the great quality of her 2022 stuff.

I noticed the word "invasion" right away because I think Russians can get in trouble for refering to it as an invasion. The video description currently begins with "I asked Tim - an American journalist from RT channel" so at least now she clearly states he's working for RT though she doesn't try to describe what RT is. I have to add my experience with her Russian language school. I used to be her fan and I still follow her on instagram, despite being disappointed in her. She seems to be intelligent and not happy with this crap and yet she chose silent complicity. Here is something that was strange even before the invasion: She leads this online Russian language school and maybe she posts something like 1-2 messages to study group in the whole month, saying how happy she is with everything and usual PR things, but (unless I am seriously mistaken) I am convinced that she never teaches. Basically she acts like this vlogger, representative, model, while Alyona (Алёна) seems to do most of the work. This didn't happen for just one month but for a couple for months, each time it was the same story. Again, it is possible that I am wrong, but I doubt that I am. I believe that Eli (a model with an unique look) is used for her looks and charisma to attract people (not thatAlyona lacks looks, but that's not her role). Furthermore, the tasks we did over the months always made me feel like I am filling a survey. They were fun but I often seriously considered that this kind of information could help build a profile of me. Furthermore, they obviously videotape all sessions (and Eli watches them, as is evident from instagram, but she never seems to be the one who participates in live conversations). The weirdest part was (the invasion already started at this point) this Serbian woman who never did anything in the group chat nor participated in live conversations but made sure to contact me and ask questions. It could be a coincidence and pure curiosity on her pat, maybe I am just reaching too far, but it is worth to mention. It was very weird. And here is the thing that irks me the most. A few days ago, after the newest draft was announced, Alyona started speaking against Russia, very openly (she is in Portugal right now). Before the latest draft, she was light with comments but it was clear enough that she was opposed to what was happening. That changed because right now, she is pissed. She had enough. She posts daily advices for people who want to run away from Russia. She hates what Russia has become, she blames "the madman" for all this mess. It seems to me that she will not return to Russia. Massive respect for her. Eli....still nothing. Silent complicity still. And that is why Eli has fallen in my eyes. P.S. don't think for a second that state propaganda is above KZbinrs. I used to follow one Chinese KZbin channel for a few months (I was interested in Mandarin) before I came to conclusion on my own that it is sponsored by the state. Only later I found out it's common practice in China, but I didn't know that at the time. It's always the same pattern: attractive, charismatic, down-to-earth girl seemingly doing her own thing. In that one Chinese channel that I mentioned, it is done really clever, videos are made to look like typical "KZbinr " videos....until you start to see the signs. In Eli's case, it is much more obvious.

@@TheStedomi I never censored her freedom of speech, actually in my opinion she's doing what she's supposed to do, support her nation, she's a Russian citizen. My only opinion is that she's not impartial as she has claimed.to.be before, she clearly receives money from her country's government, or in the worst of cases she does it for free. Of course she promotes it in a smooth way.

@@sddfsfsfsd I agree with you like all her videos either. Specially the one interview with this American was crap and wrong. But I do enjoy her videos when she travel around the country and show traditions and just other places we dont see otherwise. If she like her Goverment well if shes happy with this good for her. The world is so twisted that I kind of stopped caring about what people think ro say. I liver here in my street, have my family, I do what is right here. And what people do or think in other countries. Their choise, I just wish Eli, you and anyone else to just feel happy with their life

Conor it is like Russia bng about having no land access to konigsburg when they stole ukraines port of Mariupol and is responsible for all of ukraines ports being blocked. Another thing the earliest known history is Kievan Rus so if anything Russia is part of Ukraine.

They do have an access for people travelling by train, bus and car; it concerns only a certain sorts of sanctioned goods (hardware, metal works, building materials etc., food delivery is allowed). Ukraine is a heir apparent of Kievan Rus since Kyiv always been our territory; Russia is a heir of Golden Horde.

Talking about soft power, I think it is interesting also to know how about this "Niki" who has videos with Eli. It is possible that when Niki has leave Russia, it is part of this soft power. "But look Eli's friend Niki has escaped Russia! Maybe Eli and Niki are not propagandists" etc. Niki does some videos about Russian propaganda but link with Eli reduces her confidence. Niki has also videos with Natasha who feels like very pro western vlogger. I hope Natasha stands with Ukraine and the west, but again it is suspicious when Natasha knows Niki and Niki knows Eli.. I hope at least Natasha is not involved in those suspicious activity. Sorry my English.

@johannesnikitin91 I am quite baffled about who is sincere among russian vlogger. Natasha criticed eli in a sentence "it is not time to travel and promote tourism in Russia, maybe one day when the war is over". Natasha is lesbian and she is planning to stay away from Russia for the next 10 years, maybe returning to college in the USA. Aside from Zack (he is also in Georgia) the russian, who is so virulent against Putin is quite difficult he is a double agent. But Dari's Step did the chechen and artic promo videos with Eli, and she went soft with Natasha's observation. Dari's step got also a bad reaction from her followers when she returned in MOscow for his dog and family, and she interviewed some random people in the street..only one of them was a RT employee ( a female). Daria removed the interviewed claiming she didn't know she was an RT employee(....) and Daria is helping NGO for Ukraine back in Georgia. Trolls sprout up only to 1) defend CERTAIN russina vloggers 2) bashing anti-russian prop channels like this @conor . Even in private telegram chat they do appear. to me unfortunately I cannot trust so much anymore any russian vloggers, even against their will they are forced or corrupted to infiltrate and report how people in the west support ukraine + pushing the usual load of craps from Kremlin's propaganda (the west is rotten, russia is right, and so on).

Connor, I think Eli's channel is sophisticated propaganda that is not always easily detected at first. It is also an example of hybrid warfare that the Russian state has been engaging in over the past decade too.
