I was looking at that very long-winded post in RoA ADV that broke down common teammates by usage data which also tried to segway into detailing archetypes, and it was a bit confusing to identify established ones. The post tried to identify every deviation possible and it was hard to pin down what exactly a standard composition for each one looked like with the exception of TSS. This is a great idea for a series that should serve as an accessible resource for people looking to get into ADV OU. Good job Jim. Maybe do mixed offense next? I've sort of been on a binge in my builder with that archetype; coming from later gens Bulky Offense is my preferred playstyle/archetype. I feel like ADV Mixed Offense is the closest to later gens BO which is why I've gravitated to it probably. Although if we're going by commonality and frequency via the ladder, than physical offense or some form of MagDol seems to be the next likely candidate; either way, looking forward to the next one!

Would Jirachi be a good option since being part steel gives it a sand immunity and takes neutral damage from dark and ghost since Steel resists those types in gen 3. Plus it has ways of offering various support roles to your team with light screen, toxic and wish for example.
@frogwhisperer4268
@frogwhisperer4268 Жыл бұрын
Swampert is a better physical wall than Jirachi since Jirachi is Earthquake-weak (also Jirachi doesn't beat DD Tyranitar), and Blissey is a much better special wall. Big 5 + offensive Jirachi is ok but increases weakness to fire-types.
@TheSandwhichman108
@TheSandwhichman108 Жыл бұрын
@@frogwhisperer4268 I tried using the this team but I swapped out swampert for milotic and for the last slot I added Claydol. It actually worked really well. I also gave my tyranitar hidden power grass so they can force opposing swamperts to touch grass. I was gonna try Jirachi but Claydol won out.

@@frogwhisperer4268 Side note but if Tyranitar got a hidden ability what other ability do you think would fit it? I’d go with filter as it can come in handy for something that’s 4x weak to fighting.

Jirachi can definitely have a place on TSS teams. You can go in a "Paraspam" direction with Body Slam Jirachi, spreading paralysis, keeping your team healthy with Wish and walling various Special threats. Offensive Jirachi has also been more popular on more agressive TSS teams recently, either with Mixed sets to force switches and surprise the enemy, or CM Sets to clean up in the late game and act as a win condition
@TheSandwhichman108
@TheSandwhichman108 Жыл бұрын
@@jimothycool I tried this team out. But instead of Jirachi I added Claydol and I swapped out Swampert for Milotic. And Milotic can actually work as a sold alternative to swampert. Moves- Recover Hydro pump( or surf if you want accuracy over power) Toxic Light screen Item- Leftovers.

@SwarnaSubramanian-o5j
@SwarnaSubramanian-o5j Жыл бұрын
Charizard is more threatening because of it's higher speed, substitute + focus punch combo and most importantly it's spikes immunity. The immunity to spikes makes it so that it can come in and threaten stuff out alot more times than blazike. Also, if you're that worried about hariyama, you can just run drill peck skarm

I think this team is very good, I tried to have as few weaknesses as possible and changed the team in the video a lot to be able to have much better changes. Because with Forretress having a x4 weakness to fire, I could switch to Dugtrio and eliminate the Pokémon (Salamence, Tyranitar, Moltres, Charizard and Gengar). then with suicune instead of swampert I would intentionally tbolt from gengar, zapdos, etc. and thus change to dugtrio. I also chose forretress instead of skarmory because he doesn't die from an HP fire (and I can kill him with earthquake) and skarmory dies from a magnetone tbolt, and I could try to save him with wish. The only weakness I found was metagross, since I don't have a direct way to stop it. update: reflect instead of roar serves more to counter metagross and physical attackers. Any advice would help me, I did it recently and I didn't try much. This is the team: Tyranitar @ Leftovers Ability: Sand Stream EVs: 248 HP / 80 Atk / 180 Spe Adamant Nature -Dragon Dance - Rock Slide -Earthquake - Hidden Power [Bug] Forretress @ Leftovers Ability: Sturdy EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD Careful Nature - Spikes - Explosion - Hidden Power [Bug] -Earthquake Blissey (F) @ Leftovers Ability: Natural Cure EVs: 252 Def / 252 SpA / 4 Spe Modest Nature IVs: 0 Atk -Wish -Ice Beam - Protect - Toxic Dugtrio @ Choice Band Ability: Sand Trap EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Jolly Nature -Earthquake - Hidden Power [Bug] -Aerial Ace - Rock Slide Suicune @ Leftovers Ability: Pressure EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spe Bold Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Calm Mind - Surf - Rest -Reflect Gengar @ Leftovers Ability: Levitate EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Naive Nature IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SpA -Thunderbolt -Ice Punch - Hidden Power [Grass] -Fire Punch

back then the overall power level was so low, that the few pokemon that were actually good had a huge competetive edge over everything else. you needed a combination of everything, having good stats was not enough, you needed: good stats, good stab typing and strong stab moves and a good movepool overall. very few pokemon checked all these boxes. a pokemon like salamence for example has good stats but very poor stab moves, along with a 4x weakness to ice, making it kinda average. starmie, swampert and metagross however had everything, really good typing combination, good stab moves and movepool, high stats and few weaknesses.

Honestly, I just started competitive with Gen 3 about a week ago, and I've come to the conclusion that Competitive battling really has nothing to do with team building or even skill, it's either you use the pokemon everyone is using (aka skarmory and blissey infinite switching/stalling) or you have a direct counter to the pokemon everyone are using. It was fun at first, but the fact that EVERYONE IS RUNNNING this core, or a slight variaation on it, is really just boring. Especially for an older generation. Imagine playing call of duty black ops 2 again and thinking youre good for going try hard auto FAL or M8 and everyone playing is just like, dude, you realize nothing is actually accomplished by copying the best players in the games common strats and acting like you actually won the battle. These guys don't create a team, don't even create a strategy, literally just copy and paste from the previous champions. in a game over 20 years old.... I really just can't believe people are so cheap honestly.
@jimothycool
@jimothycool Жыл бұрын
Yes competitive games will centre around the strongest strategies. This is how every competitive game works. Don't play competitive games if you just wanna use random stuff without considering the meta
@CastroMKE
@CastroMKE Жыл бұрын
@@jimothycool this isn’t true. Competitive games are based around meta. The meta is always created by top players. Not by what they want to face, but more rather than what they don’t want to face. So every top competitive level is based on what players don’t want to see more so than what’s actually good. And my team isn’t random. I have 1490 glicko and I just started. So I’m not some random trash player, I’m purely stating facts about gen 3 competitive scene. Like I said it’s ridiculously cheap for a 20+ year old game.
@CastroMKE
@CastroMKE Жыл бұрын
And my glicko in gen3 ran bats is 1540 so like I said, it’s not that I lack knowledge, this stat alone shows that gen3ou is based around a play style significantly different (~50 points) than the rest of the game. If you believe in analytics go check out the ladders and see how much overlap there is in top 500 gen3 ran bats and top 500 gen3ou. There isn’t much. Which again proves, it’s a completely different play style in ou than the rest of the game. Why? Because “this is the meta” no. You literally make it the meta by choosing to run the same teams over 20 years. Do you see what I’m saying. There’s really no dispute. The meta is decided by the players, not the devs. So it may not even be the strongest strategy, just the strongest strategy that is easily duplicatable. As you said many times in your videos, there’s players much better than you who run suboptimal teams perfectly. So? There’s mo dispute again.
@Manuel-tv2ry
@Manuel-tv2ry Жыл бұрын
@@CastroMKEThats a contradiction. Players dont choose the meta. In BO2 for example, if every playr decides to use the Fal then they will be destroyed by an actual good player using a more optimal weapon and when that happen that weapon becomes the meta. And this is correlated with your first comment, if everyone is using the same weapon (or the same team in this case) then the most skillfull player will win which is exactly what happens at chess
