Definitely recommend Message to Adolf by Tezuka. I find it to be a perfect historical fiction setting of the Holocaust and should be right with Maus and Night in every school district’s reading of that event. Flowers of Evil ending was *chef’s kiss* the last Omni was my favorite part of the whole series.

Oh I really loved The Serpent King when I read it a few years ago. I think you might like Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. The sequel just recently came out too which I haven’t read yet so can’t say it’s good but the first one can be read as a standalone IMO. I also recommend The Song of Achilles. SO good. Opposite of those, if you’re interested in a friends to lovers romcom I highly recommend People We Meet on Vacation 😁 The banter is really good IMO and I just really ended up loving the two main characters relationship 🌟

I'm continuing my JoJo's journey and I'm almost done with reading part 2. Really like Joseph as a character so far. I would recommend you checking out Salaryman's Club anime as it's a adult setting sports anime and it also gives me a lot of Haikyuu vibes. I like to read novels that are set in 20th century America, the latest I enjoyed and would recommend is Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. Also by a demand I'm going to keep you updated in my One Piece reading - now I'm up to chapter 1041:)

Would have loved to hear your thoughts/rant on Euphoria lol. For books, I'd recommend The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo which is a contemporary YA written in verse/a kind of poetry. Radio Silence by Alice Oseman, another contamporary YA. Darius is Not Okay by Adib Khorram which is, again, contemporary YA and it made me cry. Finally, Scythe by Neil Shusterman which is a dystopian sci-fi YA & the first in a series. I read a lot of YA before seriously getting into manga lol.

Glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like Love is War. It hits me on a personal level because I was in a similar situation in high school.. looking back, all those minds games and misunderstandings were a complete waste of time that just made us divided and unhappy . The amount of frustration and cringe this story brings me is insane. It gives me visceral pain. If this story ends up positive it’s not gonna be realistic imho.

Could you clarify more with love com? are there some things I should know about? The transphobic thing seems like a huge turn off in a manga i completely agree with it being vry common with old series I just don’t know why they do it. Just wondered what specifically happened in the manga ? Also can’t wait to start reading the followers of evil
@tsukkinotes2 жыл бұрын
like i said i think the intentions were good when this was written but reading it now the whole situation is ehhhh basically there is a character who goes by she/her pronouns and she dresses femininely, she has a crush on the main character but when he finds out she is actually a "boy" he immediately turns her down which is fine, he can't force himself to like her but the whole volume everyone is making a big deal out of this and sometimes they call her by her deadname on purpose when they are mad at her and sometimes she just admits defeat in the situations which is kinda sad :( after volume 3 she is more of a recurring background character and it's not a big deal anymore but it's just :/ idk her character is supposed to be a rival for the main girl character to realize her feelings but i wish the execution was better (a very nuanced topic though since they are kids in japan in the 2000s who don't understand the complexities and i don't blame the mangaka either)

@@fuzzycuddlebearthatsmells2746 oh yes i love bakuman! it's very wordy but i love the story, honestly i think it is a must read for any manga fan if you are interested in how specifically shounen jump works, the only complaints i've seen are that the female characters are written pretty poorly which i agree with but it didn't bother me (same authors as death note so if you weren't bothered by how misa was written there shouldn't be an issue with bakman)

@@tsukkinotes well yeah I sort of expect that with any sorta manga written for that audience /fan service and boob jokes are very hard to get away from like love Hina is one of my favourites so I can’t complain lmao someone has just told me they’re written in a misogynistic manner I really hope that isn’t the case and it’s not too much baggage to handle! ive heard it is boring tho and I don’t think I could read a boring manga which then relates to it being wordy and long. Kaguya's anime kills the comedy in my opinion. I would suggest the manga over the anime easily. As for the story, to me, it's rich "smart" kids showing themselves to actually be complete morons. The first like 7 volumes feel like a silly parody of mastermind stories like Death Note or Code Geass, which is why I liked it. I don't normally care for those kind of shows because they either make too many logical leaps to seem "smart," or just bore me so Kaguya making fun of them was perfect for me. I think how you approach it can affect how much you enjoy it. If you expect it to be a good romance, you'll be let down.
@tsukkinotes2 жыл бұрын
see that was kind of my exact criticism i think to quote myself i was like "they are not the light and L they think they are" after i finished season 1. to me it didn't read as much as a parody bc i didn't think it was funny at all so that's why i didn't like it, but i'm glad i gave it a second chance bc the second season is an improvement, i see what you mean about expectations for sure, whenever i had heard recommendations for the series people had described it as "romance with mind games between the main couple" so i went into it thinking it would be more serious
