The time travel stories in Devilman were originally a side story released years later and with a different co-writer. That's why it feels SO out of place in the Seven Seas volumes. I wish they included a note about that, or ditched them altogether, lol. Presumably it was a rights issue, where they gained the rights to print this exact version of "the complete Devilman" in English as this exact collection exists in Japanese.

THANK YOU for the info omg, that part was so ... bad to put it lightly lol, and then in volume 2 it was like it never happened so now i know why 😂

Haha and I wish I knew before I read it too!! The story was called "Shin Devilman." A handful of other stories in those volumes were added later, like the very first story and the beach one. Usually the stories that were overtly homoerotic lol

Lots of fun reads! I’ve been feeling bad because my motivation to read manga was at an all time low but I think the break helped me a lot because now starting October all I want to do is read lol! Excited for next one! Hope you got some spooky ones lined up 🎃 (it’s okay if not 😅)
@tsukkinotes2 жыл бұрын
thank you! and it’s always good to take a break and refresh, that’s what i’ve been doing with books,, and hmmm i don’t have any spooky ones lined up since i don’t really read horror etc in general but i’ll see what i can do 👁️ (kind of dropped the ball with reading devilman and catching up with hanako in sep though lol)

I caught up to Hanako-kun last month and was so happy I did. I'm dreading the end though because it'll most definitely be bittersweet but I also really want to see how the heck everything will get resolved.

SAME, the change in direction got me ?? curious to see how things will wrap up bc it'll be a miracle if everyone gets a happy ending

Interesting thoughts on the ending to Message to Adolf. I actually thought it was an ingenius ending. Kinda brought everything full circle and said "Here's your future due to your actions in the past." But I'm glad it was a somewhat enjoyable read. It took me like a whole week to read 😂 so dense
@tsukkinotes2 жыл бұрын
i think it took me a couple days but i was like super focused on it lol, idk if i would call the ending ingenious but it is pretty amazing that it is sadly still relevant,, i guess if the theme was supposed to be the cycle of hatred never fixes anything etc i get it, it was just very jarring

I really loved Takako Shimura's stuff growing up too! I haven't reread them since forever though. I wonder how I'd feel about them now. I've had random volumes of Hanako kun laying around, but finally ordered the rest as vol 4 has been OOS for a bit. Can't wait to jump into it as I really enjoyed the anime. Yotsuba is one of my favs! I'm so glad to see more people getting into it. I'd like to say she's the OG Anya haha.

ya shimura is interesting, i'm especially scared to reread wandering son now since that was my top favorite manga as a teen but revisiting sweet blue flowers and noticing all the weird stuff ... hmmm we shall see,, and i'm on volume 11 of yotsuba and i have to agree she/the series is so adorable

I just read volumes 10 & 11 of Hanako-kun yesterday after waiting for volume 10 because I found volume 11 randomly at a comic store back in August. Both of them were really good and I'm glad Hanako-kun is my favorite manga.

God I really wanted to like Ooku but the olde english fucks me up too, and Im literally english so youd think Id have a decent shot at being smooth with it Very excited that youre still loving Vinland Saga
@tsukkinotes2 жыл бұрын
i know how you feel haha it took me a LONG time to get through those ooku volumes and i'm still unsure if it was worth it lol and yes love vinland saga, taking a break since i came to a good stopping point though

@@tsukkinotes I respect that, I often do the same with most everything, going from a fast climax point, to a slower establishing point is rough and unfair to the book.

Great reading log for the month, so diverse! Currently reading vol 6 of My Dress-Up Darling and I want to binge Chainsaw Man before the anime starts, but there’s definitely a few series in here that I want to check out (mainly Silver Spoon and I’m in Love and it’s the End of the World!

I agree with your thoughts on Message to Adolf. Even though I am a big fan of Tezuka it wasn’t something I loved reading. The story was very uncomfortable for me to read since I am Jewish and there are very graphic scenes of antisemitism and murder of Jews (I’m just overall uncomfortable reading about WWII). Also my favorite actors in the Tezuka Star System were portrayed as Nazis (Acetylene Lamp as himself and Hamegg as Inspector Akabane) definitely made it harder for me to read, though it makes sense cause their usual roles are villains. But I’m glad I read it. I can definitely see why it is regarded as Tezuka’s final magnum opus following Phoenix and Astro Boy as it is very well written. Though, I really liked the ending from what I remember. It seemed right that Kamil would get the last laugh as he deserves it and Kauffman finally being brought to justice and retribution for the atrocities he committed. Kauffman is probably my least favorite Tezuka character even beating Rock’s role in Alabaster. Most of Tezuka’s work is centered around discrimination and power imbalances in the world (Astro Boy) and he doesn’t always do the best job, even doing really terrible jobs at it, so I respect Message to Adolf for handling the subject with dignity. If you like Tezuka’s more dark and serious works, which for some reason Tezuka Pro prefers to give the rights to publish, I’d recommend Apollo’s Song and Ode to Kirihito. Both got new reprints and Kirihito got an omnibus which is really awesome!

I'm not really familiar with Tezuka's works at all so some of this comment went over my head but i have similar thoughts about message to adolf, i am interested to try some other works though since it seems like many are getting physical revivals lately (only other work i've read is the book of human insects)

Your review was done very well! I've seen some Booktubers (who like the more literary stuff) talk about My Year of Rest and Relaxation but they don't really talk about the relatability factor so that was interesting to hear. -Nice video to... have been watched? watch? watched? What is the correct grammar here? Ugh.- I enjoyed the video! Hopefully next month will be a good reading/watching month. 💛
@tsukkinotes2 жыл бұрын
thank you haha and ya year of rest and relaxation was interesting, as someone who struggles with their mental health at first i was like she is just like me for real but the further you go on the main character gets more and more unlikable but in a charming way so overall i thought it was a fun book despite its flaws and dark subject matter
