She is for female singers what Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was for male singers. The best if the best. Ever need to get into trance just listen to her, she is also known as the Queen of Sufi Music.

Wonderful review. Thank you so much. Abida Parveen is a Sufi singer. She's been singing Sufi poetry for several decades. She has received very rigorous training as a Salik (wayfarer on the Sufi path) to reach where she is. Jhoom is like the whirling of a Darvesh, which is symbolic of the dance of the universe from the atom where the electrons revolve around the nucleus to the solar system where the planets revolve around the Sun (and beyond!) it's all a whirling dance of love and passion. It's symbolic of a state of mind where you're so aligned with the dance of the cosmos (individual and collective growth and evolution) that the anchorages of the ego (caste, socioeconomic status etc) slip off. Then you're content with being who you are, having what you have.
