I think the joy of listening to them is the way they throw the tune from one to another always finding a little extra something in so doing. Nothing appears formulated which is usually the sign of much hard work and development out of the public gaze. To be sure their expertise does not just happen it is the progressive development of consummate musicians and we have the delight of being their audience. Thank you Tuba Skinny from fans across the globe.

I've never been fond of this music genre, but always found it 'toe tapping, hip swaying" music. The band is excellent. Shaye is a good leader with her nods, toucing her head and other signals, And Erika's voice is perfect for this. Thanks to Kassiniru for the video, well done.
@kenmurray84764 жыл бұрын
I think I used to like it by others in similar ways, but when I heard them in person, and even more on CD, I was astonished to hear that they were doing something much more complex. I could hear the pattern laid down by the melodyist, with the gaps they leave, and that the backing jump in and out to fill, without tripping on the song. Done poorly by lesser musicians, it turns into jumbled up mush. But these guys don't step on each other. You lose some things in these videos, such as this one, the Tuba solo just isn't heard.

This eight-bar song is 'Mississippi River Blues', composed and recorded by Big Bill Broonzy in 1934: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eabLamiXi6tsaJI The identical song was later recorded as 'Big Boat' by Washboard Sam. Big Bill played it in the key of G, whereas Erika prefers E flat and takes it (with the strings playing eight to the bar) slightly more briskly than Bill does.

still trying to figure out the half of one percent who give these performances thumbs down... I understand that dixieland and obscure jug band blues are not mainstream.. or everyones cup of tea.. any more than opera or death metal are... and the the music is too intricate for some and sometimes requires a frame of reference to appreicate fully.. and some folks just don't care for an individual song.. but even given those things.. when one encounters such thorough going greatness.. it ought to ring a chime, even if you are averse to the style or content. oh well. some folks like wonderbread to the exclusion of all else. No soup for you !

Most listeners are no musicians and can´t tell the difference between their taste and the quality of a performance. I´m not very excited about this old time jazz but I like them as they are a good band. And that´s way better than listening to a lousy band trying to play the music I like. So .....
