Yeah. I was surprised to learn how long ago it had been made. I picked up the DVD from Wal-Mart in the spring, and was figuring it for more of a period piece, given the flip-phones. I hadn't heard anything about it before, and it was really something of an impulse buy out of sheer curiosity. This movie really gives Willie Wonderland some stiff competition for the best bargain bin movie I've gotten from Wal-Mart in recent years (though not of all time, as that belongs to Mad Max 1-3).

This movie is so underrated and I love how they basically flip it and people that you think wouldn't be bad are actually the villains. And the ones you would think would be the villains The Hills Have Eyes or Deliverance style are actually not the villains.

My girlfriend had a good way of describing this movie "anti-horror". It takes everything horror movies are supposed to be and inverts it, thus being comedic gold. Subverting expectations is the best kind of comedy.

As much as I loved the first one, I have no idea how they'd actually continue it with a sequel. The first worked so well as a self-contained story that it feels like about the maximum has been done with the characters for that type of situation.

Tucker and Dale is one of my favorite examples for how to do satire correctly. It takes all the tropes of the "evil Hillbilly" horror genre that was going around at the time and manages to craft a genuinely funny plot with great gags and some really endearing characters. I'd go so far as to say it's in the same category as the first Scary Movie, Slither, and even Airplane. Plus, it introduced me to Tyler Labine who I came to really enjoy seeing in films and television. I highly recommend Someone Marry Barry or his criminally underrated series Deadbeat.

@edgelordleon5859
@edgelordleon5859 Жыл бұрын
@@alexandredesbiens-brassard9109 Airplane is a satire that told a comedic story by playing off tropes typical of the disaster flick. Scary Movie is a satire that told a comedic story by playing off the tropes typical of the slasher genre. Slither is a satire that told a comedic story by playing off tropes typical of the creature feature. Tucker and Dale is a satire that told a comedic story by playing off the tropes typical of the backwoods hillbilly genre. All of them came out either during or sometime after, or in Airplanes case surprisingly before, the boom of their chosen genres. They are all very different films in their construction, yes, but are all extremely similar in their intent, and as equally effective in their execution.

I love this movie. slashers are basically gorey slapstick. both horror and comedy tick the same boxes to work properly. playing with expectations, you know, intense build-up and a clever pay-off. dumb decisions and college shenanigans don't hurt either. finding the right balance, though, that's the tricky bit. T&DvE pulls it off brilliantly.

I have a pretty high tolerance for crap (a product of watching SciFi movies on the weekends while doing crafting in MMO's), so I usually don't end up recommending a lot of what I watch unless it's something that really sticks with or impacts me to some level. This was a movie I wouldn't stop telling friends to watch when I first saw it. It's funny, it's brutal, and it's just that right kind of absurd that you go along with. The Woodchipper Kill is easily one of my favorites.

Easily became one of my favorite horror comedies right about the time the kid trips into the woodchipper but even before all that, it's very engaging just watching Tucker and Dale interact. This movie is probably in my top 100 of all time, regardless of genre. The only problem I've ever had with it is that there feels like several long moments where nothing is happening but should be. I don't mean like the little character beats which are great. It just feels like empty space padding out the runtime in a cheap B-Movie. It doesn't really hurt the overall experience for me but it's my only nitpick.
