I have always considered myself to be progressive, but I am increasingly finding wisdom in some (but not all) conservative ideas. Bottom line, we need to continually question the mainstream narratives that get fed to us on a daily basis. I am appalled by my liberal friends who only consume mainstream media such as CNN, MSNBC, PBS, NYT, and WAPO, and regurgitate these ideas as truths. 50 years ago they were fighting “the man”, and now they are parroting the swill that pours out of the mouths of the talking heads. I think your rant was quite nice. I think one problem almost all of us have, is defining liberal and conservative. For example, liberal can mean adherence to enlightenment/modernism ideas/principles, or liberal can mean post liberalism/post modernism, which would be almost the opposite. Likewise conservative, could mean anything from loving the constitution, to wanting a Christian dictator (Christian Nationalists, and again, almost the opposite) The real battle is something like, individualism vs collectivism, theology, vs cult ideology, belief in the scientific method, vs belief in the dialectic. Things like this define what is going on better than left/right/conservative/liberal. Anyhow, good luck cutting through the noise.
