The war between Omega and Rolex is getting interesting. Omega working on repositioning itself into the five figure market and Rolex countering by positioning Tudor to mirror Omega's selling points.

I really like this piece! The black case and black dial are exquisite. The white markers are legible, I think. The see thru case back is great, and the movement is subtle and interesting to look at!! The METAS Cert. is a leap forward for Tudor(Rolex) and Teddy I agree it is a directed at their "Competitor"

I had a “sweet-and-sour” opinion about Tudor. But this watch make it clear the moment I saw it, and try it on. Since then I enjoy every time I wear it, and that accuracy even after you leave it a side couple of days, is so good! And the video is so good and honest about the watch.

Thank you for the great video, as usual, Teddy! The carbon fiber case is a definite plus of this watch, while hindered legibility of some markings is the obvious design mistake, IMHO. I would also much prefer this watch to be a much more reasonable 40 mm in diameter with the overall lug-to-lug distance also reduced to, say 48-49 mm.

A couple months ago a good friend of mine, who is a watch salesman, and called to his store to see a BB Ceramic that just hit the counter. Purely out of curiosity, I went to take a look. I was surprised how much I liked it and bought it on the spot, which is very unusual for me. Have really enjoyed it so far. I also have a BB GMT and the Ceramic wears a lot smaller. Its also very different from everything else in my collection. Plus, the movement is great to look at. The design may make it less than a perfect tool watch, but I would not wear a $5,000 watch in the ocean anyway. I have a Seiko PADI Turtle for that.

Mine has zero damage in the 18 months or so I have had it. Not a scratch, even when changing straps. Never dropped it on concrete or anything like that, but unless you work construction I would have no worries using it for a daily wear. Usual knocks on doors and wall edges have caused zero damage.

I think the fact that the 3/6/9/12 markers are different than the circular 1,2,4,5,7,8,10, and 11 make it pretty easy to tell time. I am not a fan of watches that have the same symbol for all makers. At least the 12 needs to stand out.

A good informative review Teddy. METAS testing is fully cased with lots of different testing parameters at different temperatures, pressures, positions, standby and differential between wound and running down. The big one is the 15000 Gauss testing. This 'may' be interesting as the case is non ferrous where stainless steel is and could be magnetized and interact with the ferrous parts of the movement in theory. So I guess it may be more than just grafting this movement into other cases. Anyway I agree with you that its's a great watch if a little thick but readability apart from the dial shows form over function.

So i agree with your overall assessment of the situation, i just think this watch had some missed opportunities. Looking at it in a vacuum and not what it represents for the brand, the watch in and of itself is extremely boring. It feels incredibly late to the game, and frankly i'm just kind of "over" the whole blacked out ceramic watch idea. IMO what would have been cool would have been to get some contrast of finishing, as well as some black/white contrast. So, for example, a satin dial (or perhaps even gloss) instead of matte. Lumed bezel numbers. Some satin/polished finishing on the movement in addition to the matte and texturing, etc. I think it would also have looked awesome on a tan leather strap rather than a cloth/nato. Never the less, those are my thoughts :)

The problem is making black-coated bracelets that can endure scratches and not wear off. Nobody really has pulled it off. And the bracelet wouldn't be ceramic, it would be a different material. I'm confused as to why anyone would think that the Omega was "inspired" by the Tudor when this Seamaster is an upgraded reissue of a watch and color scheme that came out in the ’90s. Likewise, calling this a "stainless steel version of the No Time To Die model" makes no sense as it only borrows the bracelet from that model as a way of straddling the line between the ’90s original shown in Goldeneye and the latest iteration.

I don’t think adopting METAS certification as much of an attack on any other brand, as much as a natural evolution of delivering a better product to your customer. METAS brings more transparency to the watch testing than COSC, and especially more so than in-house testing like Superlative Chronometer. I would not be surprised if this is just the beginning for Tudor, likely big brother Rolex, and many other brands adopting METAS.
