The watch I regret buying the most is the F-91w. It has been a gateway drug for me and now I can’t stop.
@ednammansfield85536 ай бұрын
Yes, the F91 is probably the biggest seller of any other brands of watches on the market. It's cheap and reliable and if it should ever go wrong or is damaged you can just purchase another one without having to break your bank account on any luxury watch like a Rolex etc. The only trouble with Casio watches they can be addictive. I know that from experience as I have several of them in my collection both digital and analogue along with two G-Shock 5610's for when I need a tough and reliable watch when on military duties.

But you have a story which is somehow better. We try to tie these silly metal time pieces to a story, because the story IS the point. If you stole a fork from the event it’d be worth more than any watch. (The story part, not the watch itself). I’m selling my Daytona as part of a down payment for a house and to be honest I don’t care about it at all. Also sell a Grand Seiko for the same reason. The rest of my collection is under $500 for the most part and I only have one watch I truly care about and it’s worth at best $300 new. I like your story more than I like my Daytona, (although I am wearing it for the next few days before I send it in for service, cleaning and authentication for its new owner).

The second is watches I am buying because they may prove to be a good flip or investment (like your Journe example). I wear the first batch and will never sell them so I don’t regret. The second group I do not wear ever so I don’t make memories with them and thus they are easy to move on from emotionally when it is time to sell. This formula seems to be working for me. The only hard part is not wearing the “flip” watches, but that is easier than regret!

Thank you! I've just bought a Bell-Matic in really good condition and I was starting to think that the mechanism was faulty because I couldn't get the crown to change the day/date

I became interested in watches in 2016, when I first started commuting regularly into the City, and would pick up glossy high-end magazines, that were free outside busy tube stations. An advert for Patek is what did it. Later editions reading about the Royal Oak. I could not afford that. Still can't. Probably like many others here, I started looking into watches, saw the Hoodinkee videos, Talking Watches with Mayer and others. Started watching the mysterious Talking Hands videos of Watchfinder, where I discovered your work Andrew. I had owned a Seiko for 15 years and inherited a quartz modern classic style Dunhill. I had never bought a watch for myself. I started with Rolex, went into the boutique in 2019, asked to buy an Air King. Expecting for a long wait list, a week later got an email, not a phone call saying my watch was in stock. I had the money in the Bank, was ready to do it. I did nothing. Sent a response saying could the watch be held, it could not. Obviously, lock down happened the market exploded. I tried to put in an order in 2020 for a big birthday, in 2021. My Air King order was going no where. I put in an order in Autumn 2020 for a Day date 36 and a GMT Mstr 2 BNR on a Jubilee. I received my Day date 📅 , early Jan 23, just as the prices had jumped massively at the start of the year. If I had bought the Air King in 2019, it would have been 40% lower at that time. What's more a week after buying my OP DD, I got a call about the GMT. 'You are not going to believe this, we never have this in stock...' I didnt have the 9k to buy it, would have needed a Bank loan. By this point the watch was basically my grail, that I thought I could own. Although the GMT was probably the right watch, the wrong time, I dont really regret it as its a lot of money to pay out for your first watch. I regret the quirky, fun and interesting quality of that Air King.

nkuwan You are so well-informed about luxury watches. You've obviously done your due diligence and the comparison to the US is very informative...because of course, I live in New York. thank you very much

We are so much alike! So many regrettable watch decisions, for the sake of finding out what I really like. I tell myself there was a reason for each decision, and it's true. I just consider it all a part of the journey in this odd hobby.

I love my newer Lognines Legend Diver, especially on NATO straps.

I find it easier to enjoy a watch after it gets the first couple scratches.

That's the joy of buying pre-owned: Somebody else was responsible for the first scratches ... and ate that part of the depreciation.

My biggest watch related regret is not watch related at first glance. We bought an all tile home. Within a few months I had killed three nice watches by dropping them on the floor. Three! A sub, Speedmaster and Pam Carbon all reduced to paper weights. I've sent off the Speedmaster and am waiting on the repair quote.

I contemplated the rose gold YM 40 for years. Ultimately I never moved ahead because of the unsightly gap between the strap and the lug. Once you see it, it can’t be unseen.
