Mary was my favourite part of this season. But that final scene with her and Elizabeth makes me really sad. It’s the way Mary’s face falls as she says “a boy is more important” because she’s lived long enough to know and understand how cruel the world (and her father) can be to women and girls.

Yes she is mine too and yes… she must have really suffered from it!

The two actors who play Mary and Eustace Chapuys are superb. I've watched this series in whole about five times. I know some of the timelines are off but I was still hooked!

The scene where he goes back to Spain due to poor health and leaves Mary alone breaks my heart every time I see it. The actress did a great job of conveying her heartbreak and fear.

I wonder if Jane was pretty scared. Anne of Cleves and Jane Seymour were smart to just go along with everything Henry wanted. Catherine and Anne argued with him. All the people executed with Anne knew about his impotence. Narcissists hate being exposed.

That Christmas scene is really sweet, but yes, I'm not sure Jane can be given credit for bringing the family together, only Mary and her reconciliation with her father

Outstanding review, Dr Parenque! I couldn't agree more. Your take is spot on especially at min 10:26 😮😆. Love your honest thoughts, reactions and humour. It must have had been extremely stressful for her to provide the king with a male heir after what happened to Anne Boleyn. That scene with Mary and Elizabeth is brilliant. Thank you so much.

Thank-you for the lovely review. A few historical inaccuracies are Jane Seymour helping Elizabeth out as you already mentioned, but I think it's interesting that the Duke of Norfolk and the other Howards were cut from the show. The Duke of Norfolk helped crush the Pilgrimage of Grace along with Charles Brandon Duke of Suffolk. Also, Thomas Boleyn was at Prince Edward's christening.

17:35 I do agree the scene is cringey, but it is very terrifying - it is a vulnerable moment, where they're presumably underdressed or even naked in bed, and he holds her in a way where he could snap her neck if he wanted to. If my husband did something like that to me I'd probably put a restraining order on him lol

Do you prefer S2 Jane or S3 Jane? (As they had to recast her because of scheduling conflicts). I think they're both too pretty to play Jane! (No offence to the real Jane Seymour 😆)

S3 Jane but I totally agree with you! Haha!!!

The reaction at 13:44 LOL 🤣🤣🤣 To be honest I'm not quite a fan of Jane's portrayal in S3. She was too Mary Sue-ish for my taste. I mean yeah surely she had to be cautious after what happened to her two predecessors (especially Anne) and couldn't voice any objections to her husband's affairs, and the pressure on her to deliver the long-awaited male heir as well as the tension with Henry when his dangerous side was activated were well portrayed, but do they really expect me to believe that she was this selfless angel who tried to provide for Elizabeth and spoke gently to her husband's mistress asking her to "take care of his if anything should happen to me"? 🙄🙄 Give me a break 😒 I wonder how she would've dealt with Henry's attentions had the whole Anne situation never happened and had there been no reformation and breaking with Rome and no notion or chance of her replacing the current queen. I wish more focus was put on her navigating court life and being a consort after the fate of the previous two consorts, on her Catholic faith, how or if she tried to influence the religious policies of post-reformation England and what her relationship with pro-reformation advisers like Cromwell was , the horrific childbirth experience she had to go through and how she was sacrificed in the most brutal way possible for the sake of the sought-for male heir (I don't know if it was here or on a podcast, but I've heard that it was a mistake that Henry's royal doctors had made which ended up costing her her life, and that if she had been a woman of lower status and so had had a midwife deliver her baby, would've survived). I know they've touched on those topics, but I wish they gave more attention to them and portrayed Jane more humanly and three dimensionally instead of the perfect goody two shoes they gave us. Princess Mary on the other hand, was a portrayal I really liked. I especially loved her relationship with Chapuys and how she found in him the father she never had in Henrat. There's an edit on Instagram about them which always tugs at my heartstrings 🥺 I'll try to find it and link it here. Another thing, I love love the point you've made about Elizabeth speaking French and the link to Anne!! I've never noticed that before! The scene between the two sisters with which you've ended the video is so wholesome yet so sad at the same time 🥺🥺 I also really enjoyed the Pilgrimage of grace storyline (Not sure if "enjoyed" is the right word to use here but you get my meaning 😅) As always, thank you for another wonderful video 💛

Another great video mam Loved how all your reactions are really honest despite bieng a boy it made me felt how hard and terrifying it would have been for those womens somewhere in their hearts they know that if they faild to give henery a son it could have costed them their lives also it made me wonder was henery the 8th really that soft with mary and even if he was i dont think that mary whould have responded in a way she did in the show because he is the one who declared her illegitimate amd seperated her from her mother whom she really loved the most pls correct me if i got anything wrong .Thank you very much for this video 🙏❤

The truth is if she did we don’t have the evidence and that’s probably because we don’t have the letters of Chapuys (the court gossip) during that time. They’ve been lost or misplaced. I don’t think she would have taken the risk to do anything for Elizabeth given what Anne Boleyn had been accused of…

Maybe it's just me, but all the sources seem to indicate that Henry really loved Jane Seymour the most of any of his wives. The main fact is that she's the one he's buried next to.
