And a post throwing shade to fictional victorian psychiatric professionals. It's two completely separate fandoms and I made them in the same week. it's great. I feel like that is something that could never really happen on any other social media. Like. Instagram is so focused on giving your account some kind of, idk, brand? I think that's the best way to put it? Xitter is just toxic at this point I don't wanna touch it with a 10 foot pole. Facebook is so much more focused on interacting with either people you know or in specific interest groups. Discord is a chat room. Tiktok doesn't really lend itself to the kind of stream of conscious 3am rambles or just stopping reading for a sec to post some shitpost idea you just came up with when reading in the way tumblr does. It's fun and it's unique and the only thing that it's algorithm ever seems to throw at you (in the for you page) is tags or blogs that you have actively looked at or interacted with at least once.

the problem with tiktok is that you can make a 10 minute long video now but if you are doing that, why not just post it on youtube? youtube has a much nicer search feature that is the same with or without an account and has more videos in greater variety. the key to having a successful website is for it to serve a unique function that you can't get elsewhere. now that youtube has its shorts feature, the endless scrolling for videos in short-form content has a contender, and tiktok is not rising to the challenge. also, tiktok won't let you watch videos without an account and not everyone wants a tiktok account, so there it goes losing viewership.

The fact that Tumblr hasn't somehow integrated with the Fediverse is actually astounding to me, it's one of the few (perhaps even the only) external service I think Tumblr would benefit from working with. Part of this, I think, is the shared outlook; neither the FV platforms nor Tumblr view themselves as, or really are, services or social media. They have this "older-internet" mindset where they view themselves as tools (in Tumblr's case, a tool for blogging, in which anything to do with socialization exists to make said blogging easier). You'll notice neither FV programs nor Tumblr face much feature creep, and this is why. It also helps they're both okay with existing in their own little bubbles, and not trying to be the "next big thing".

TBH there's a lot of enjoyment to be had in reblog conversations with people who are otherwise strangers if not for the fact you both want to use very strange metaphors to explain your feelings about fictional characters. The problem with the "NSFW" bans wasn't them banning NSFW, it was their first introduction of an algorithm to the website to look at every picture and automatically determine if it was NSFW. Trees were marked NSFW and people were permanently banned, SFW artists suddenly blacklisted because the algorithm thought something was NSFW about everything. It was killing the site and retroactively applying it to them for any old art it finally got to 2 weeks later. People were getting blacklisted for the things they reblogged years ago, not even the main poster and almost 70+% of the bans weren't NSFW Worst part, some NSFW stuff wasn't flagged by the algorithm, the code was just bad. Obviously. But it was an NSFW ban so everyone assumes the people who fled were perverts when in actuality it was most of tumblrs funnymen and artists trying to self preserve and not lose all the fans they gained in an instant for a meme they posted years ago. Still a good site, but damn it's a shame perspective of tumblr has been so abundantly poisoned throughout the years

Tumblr is not a social platform or a blogging platform, its an ANTI-social platform ran by a crazy kangaroo thats on the hunt for its nemesis, the penguin.

And if anyone here gets that reference, it is your duty not to explain it in true 'hehe' fashion. The same goes for that reference.

As a young creator I can confirm that I enjoy using Tumblr. I post fan art, mostly for Cinderella Boy (amazing Webtoon 1000/10 would recommend), and I love the community that’s been built by the CB fans there

As someone who uses tumblr regularly, I agree with this. This…is accurate.

Based on what I've seen in these videos, I have 2 main conclusions. A) Tumblr doesn't look dead to me. It just looks like it's no longer in the spotlight and (in my opinion) trying to keep a platform in the spotlight tends to be what breaks it. And 2) the "Reasons it's Dead" here sound more like features than like bugs. It clearly has its happy niche and is thriving there. It doesn't need to "expand it's appeal". "Expanding it's appeal to a broader audience" tends to make it a worse experience for everyone involved (eg/ D&D E4).

How the actual fook do people type out words that are anywhere close to "there are no true Tumblr personalities because of no video" and think they're correct.

When tumblr got video live streaming, we ALL lashed out and they took it off. It's not that tumblr can't have video content. It's that we don't want it.

they TRIED social video content, and we as a whole BULLIED it OFF the platform. BECAUSE WE DONT WANT IT. i dont need like 7 apps doing the same thing. im not gonna stop using shorts in favor of whatever app-of-the-week is 'hot'. So there's no need for anyone else to have it. we dont need 7 people doing the same job we need those other 6 people to do the jobs that no one else is doing.

where's that one post related to this where they're calling other sites The British Museum because they're basically walking into our "houses" while we're eating dinner and loudly lamenting about how we all "died" while snagging "relics" (posts) off our kitchen counters in front of us to post on their website. Like... We're not dead! Still glad y'all think so, but where in the h-e-double _FUCK_ do you think all the tumblr screenshot posts come from??? The beyond???
