@dusk4974 Жыл бұрын
That's one of my (many) issues with the community of LGBT. I have absolutely no hate to people of alternative sexual orientation. But I hate the community because it doesn't do real people justice. It went from a support system for suffering people trying to literally just live, into something like a cult where the loudest few drag everyone else down their own personal paths. They make everything about sexuality, never about the people themselves. The cute idea of two opposites being roommates is nice. If it expanded on their life of growing up together or how they met and deciding to help one another; ie, get the one to have more confidence and get the other to pipe down a bit for serious situations. Growing together as friends would've been great. But it never changes from just being about sexual attraction, which is not great.
@the_last_ballad Жыл бұрын
@@dusk4974 So you don't hate LGBTQ+ people, you just hate the community we made to support eachother, all because some of the members highlight their sexuality, nevermind that it's something straight people do all the time? Yeah, if you're standing outside the building all you're going to be able to hear are the people yelling. You have to actually go inside and interact with people to hear those who are speaking at a normal volume... As for dragging people down paths, let's discuss those who insist that we are only acceptable if we're quiet and unobtrusive. (ʘᴗʘ✿) Be gay. Do crime. We don't exist to make you comfortable, and our self acceptance movement isn't tailored to your delicate sensibilities, it's designed to counteract centuries of erasure, shame, and violence pointed at us for "daring" to have an "alternative sexual orientation".
@dusk4974 Жыл бұрын
@@the_last_ballad that's not what I was saying at all?? It's not good when ANYONE makes their whole personality about their orientation. I said alternative sexual orientation because I myself am straight, ergo, gay people are the alternative orientation to me, as I would be to them. What I was saying about dragging people down the path they're not meant to go on is when those loud few assholes push new people down their personal paths instead of letting those people find their own. I'm not saying that anyone gay should be "quiet" I'm saying that it's sad that the sexuality of this Tumblr idea was the only thought, not the actual possible people. I also never said other people need to pander to me to make me comfortable? Not once in my og comment. You added that to be mad. It's not about some members "highlighting" their sexuality. It's about those asshole few who try to force it on other people. And yes, those few do exist. My issue with the community is what it's become, not what it's MEANT to be. I used to be in it, I know what I'm talking about. It was meant to be, and it WAS, about supporting one another and being happy and outspoken about who you are no matter what. It was the personal aspect of helping one another. Now it's become like a cult. I happened to be stuck in one of those bad groups. I was pushed into claiming I was asexual and aromantic because it made them stop asking, made them stop harassing me to pick. And every time I was asked what I was sexuality wise, it was always on the context of being gay, not straight ally. When I told a friend in that group I was actually straight, she literally scoffed at me and told me I was wrong. THOSE are the groups I have an issue with. The ones who take young teens trying to find themselves and push those teens down a path that isn't one that teen chose. But instead the group's decision for them. That's what I said before.
@jasperjazzie Жыл бұрын
@@the_last_ballad exactly, i hate when people say "i'm lgbt/an ally but i hate the community" as if the entire community is like that, like it's literally an infinite minority of people who are toxic but people act like the entirety of the lgbt community is some cultish cesspool, or that if you dare speak about your sexuality at all in any sort of positive way you're "making it your whole personality" like god forbid people be proud? it's a part of what makes you you, you should be allowed to make it part of your personality and it not be something to be ashamed of

My friends thought it was hilarious, and me, riding that high, put the idea into action to make a music video parodying a Les Mis song with kazoos. I got props, costumes, set pieces, actors, learned how to fly a drone. I made a shot list and a storyboard. We had a kazoo choir recorded professional! But I had zero idea about lighting, cameras, or scheduling shots. The shoot day turned out to be rainy and ruined most of the shots. I promised reshoots. The next week was hurricane Harvey. Morale dropped. I had to return the costumes and set pieces that I’d rented. The footage we had became corrupted. And I feel horrible. One of the actors got in major trouble with their job for taking off that day. I have no idea how to recover as most of these friends drifted away after my failed video shoot. There was a deep naivete to this era of Tumblr. Childish ignorance of real world media was made was widespread, many people jumped on this despite red flags everywhere: the lack of professionalism, lack of creator credentials, and lack of realism in goals. Its the same mentality that led to squads of teenagers recruited by the Dashcon team to think that they, literal 14 year olds, could feasibly book and arrange for their A list celebrity faves to attend with zero money to pay and zero experience in dealing with agents/media people. This isnt a "haha kids stupid" dig, its an observation of a well meaning but foolish optimism that no longer exists on the site, since 6 months later Dashcon nuked it forever. If All or Nothing had appeared in modern Tumblr, it have never got to Indigogo. Realistically some artist might have made a webcomic or just some art, but no one would have given unexperienced teenagers money to make a real live action show.

@@raphaellaS2 Yeah, but the problem is that people now just know ace people as aroace, it's good to teach the difference so people don't have the incorrect view of it :/
@Wardfire3 жыл бұрын
I think the actual underlying problem to this aro/ace confusion (except the fact that a lot of aro and ace posts from the communities themselves also mix these identities to an almost annoying degree at times) is that most allo people have simply never had to think about a distinction between sexual and romantic attraction, mostly because it just isn't relevant to them and it is never talked about except in aro and ace communities. That makes it hard for a lot of people to understand the split attraction model, it simply doesn't exist in their world. Also on marriage specifically: in some cultures marriage is still only legal if you have sex on your wedding night and being married is in many other cultures as well still heavily associated with having sex (wait until marriage!) and it leading to child rearing. And since marriage is associated with romantic love, sex and romance become a package deal. Most people seem to have, at least initially, a hard time to wrap their heads around romantic love without sex and to some degree sex without romantic interest, like tropes about how "friends with benefits" will "inevitably lead to feelings" or how "people of different genders can't be friends". I mean some people define a romantic relationship as "someone you have sex with, otherwise it's just a friendship" which personally confuses me but okay... Amatonormativity sucks for everyone lol

The most quintessential example I can think of when it comes to Tumblr's piss poor promoting of something just because it has representation is people recommending Killing Stalking to fans of Yuri on Ice!!! @Account_Not_Applicable3 жыл бұрын
@@fabulouskelly3438 dont get me wrong, as a horror story, it does its job well. It had been a while since I felt that level of discomfort and unease from a piece of horror media. That said, it's a highly intense story (like I didn't get through it and never will, it was too much for me after a while) and I would NEVER reccomend it to anyone who wasn't into the horror genre. People sharing or recommending it so frivolously is very harmful and even traumatizing for those who don't want to read it and those who'd never want to read it if they knew what it was about past "gay characters". It's like someone saying, "hey, if you liked Up, you should watch Where The Dead Go To Die; They both have a talking dog in them."

I can't exactly criticize that attitude, seeing as I've used the TV Tropes Asexuality page for recommendations. And I am a grown-ass adult. You could easily spin a sitcom off of All or Nothing. Outgoing aroace tries to set up her miserably lonely pansexual shut-in roommate with wacky dates and generally tries to get her out in the world on what may become misadventures. Aroace may try to save the situation to make Pansexual roommate happy and keep her from further retreating from the world, and Pansexual roommate learns to be more accepting and open to experiencing the world whether or not she has friction with it. The title "All or Nothing" is at once a reference to the characters and Pansexual roommate's neurotic attitude, which she gradually unlearns.

Man dude,,,,,, I remember back in middle school trying to make a movie adaptation of a book I liked with some friends. I had a fairly good camera/tripod, and I knew how to do basic editing, so I was really excited. We planned to shoot over the summer, and even held auditions at school for the minor roles we didn't have anyone for. I spent like 4 months writing and perfecting the script so it'd be done in time (there's a chance I still have it somewhere), but when the time came to shoot, almost everyone either dropped out, or just kinda disappeared. Didn't really have any long term consequences like this, and I doubt anyone really remembers it, but man, 12 year old me felt really bad after having put so much work into it. Good times.

Ok I went and found the videos and Jack Sparrow was a horse, the guy at the docks was an elephant, Murtogg and Mulroy were both Santas (idk why she had 2 Santa puppets like I said, it was a massive collection), Elizabeth's dad was a snowman, Will was a dog, Elizabeth was (I think) Rudolph (but also she was wearing a Wheres Wally jumper and I know we didn't dress any of the puppets pre-filming so god knows what that was about, also Will the dog was "holding" a sword and it doesnt look tied on so idk how we attatched it), oh god norrington's an ostrich this is so good. Just to clarify, we didnt have a script, the whole thing was based off my friends memory of having seen the film about 1000 times bc she was obsessed and me having seen it the first time on the day we filmed it and also the "ships" are bath toys and when jack dives to save elizabeth we had to move the horse so it pushed the santas off the boat bc in the video before we tried to film the scene and realised the horse didn't have a hat or gun to give them and pushing them so hard they fell off was easier than trying to pass stuff between puppets, this is so good, the underwater scenes are shown by having a boat floating in midair with the puppets beneath it and we had to end it after jack escapes after saving elizabeth bc his head got twisted around backwards/upside down and we couldnt fix it

When I worked at a university, teaching poetry, we shared our back room space with another lecture hall which was mostly used by the film studies department. Anyway I was friends with another lecturer Laura, who specialised in queer media, and I remember there was a week long period where everyday she came in and groaned about having to cover "... But I'm A Cheerleader..." again because she didn't think it was a particularly good film to begin with and she was absolutely sick of it at that point. Eventually one morning I said "if you don't think it's a good film, and you don't like it, why are you talking about it?" and she said "do you know how few films there are about lesbians where they don't die at the end? Or where they're not over sexualised? Or are actually made by gay women? There's practically none." I'd never realised how badly represented gay women were in media until that point and it blew my mind. Like I had never thought about it but she was completely right and in that moment I realised how awful it must be to be a young gay woman looking for representation and just finding a lot of sex and women being shown as unstable and dying at the end. I hope it's better now.
