Subaru Impreza, Crosstrek, Legacy, Outback and Foresters with FB20 and FB25 engines typically do not receive much aftermarket support compared to Turbo sports car models like the WRX.
That being said, these modern 2011+ Subaru's can be tuned, both mechanically and for better engine performance
I talk about some methods of e-tuning the Subaru FB engines with software to get the most out of your daily driver.

A little more top end power (2-3hp). And a lot more torque available in the low and mid range. The car is much peppier from the start.

Definitely do a follow-up video after you get your smog inspection done. I'm tempted to get mine tuned, but I'm holding off until after I get a smog inspection done. California moment 😵‍💫

I've had my car 6 years, I waited for 3 before modding it. One day I said f'it. You can always un bolt or return the OEM tune. Enjoy the car now.

How's the fuel consumption post etune? One challenge with a boxer engine is the amount of distance it sits over the front axle. This really affects the handling of the front end. Causes understeer, of course. Anything one can do to combat this is a net benefit as you know. This is probably why Porsche put the engine in the back! God knows how they engineer the handling to be so damn good! I thought about an etune to improve throttle response. Interested to see how it goes. I settled on a throttle controller instead and im pretty happy woth it tbh

And with the AWD systems in the CVT models also being front-biased, that's not helping with combating understeer either.

A think a throttle control will be sufficient for most people. But to really get the most out of this little engine with intake and exhaust mods, I think a proper tune will excel. :)

@JasonLeung-4roller Yeah, a proper tune is for sure required after any exhaust mods. But, imo it's a zero sum game trying to wring power from the FB engines. A lot money for not a lot of power. I do concede that exhaust flow is good no matter what, particularly for efficiency. But the online tunes raise red flags for me. They promise more power and better fuel efficiency. How? I feel like the software masks the true consumption figures. Just overall dodgy for little gain. A throttle controller cost me 200 bucks. It makes a marketed difference in throttle response with zero risk to the drive train. Reputable companies sell them. Forums are full of happy customers. And after all, is it about the perception of the driving experience and enjoyment? What my right foot does and the immediacy of the response from the car is more important than 5 horsepower more.

Great video as always! My impreza starts to seep oil at the cam carrier on the passenger side and weep oil at the timing chain cover on the driver side. It still has some factory warranty left, you think I should trust the dealer to reseal them? or just let it go and monitor the situation? I am concerned about resealing will make things worst in the long run!

@@JC-sg1bj i guess it depends on how severe. If it's just weeping you might be able to just tighten up the nuts yourself. If it's leaking. Maybe let the Subaru people take a look. I have exactly the same issues. Though it hasn't been an issue. I regularly check my oil and have a quart handy if it drops below half the dip stick mark. Good luck!

Tbh, I can't tell. The Impreza gets great fuel mileage if you are light on the gas and drive it under 3000rpm. But with high RPMs, and lots of engine demand, you will consume more fuel. I haven't measured.
