Hi ive taken all your wiring classes and they are excellent. I’m considering getting into tuning and my first project would be a two cylinder Kawasaki engine. It is throttle body injected and there’s no way to connect to it, is their and easy way via software or a tool to take a recording of the way the stock ECU behaves to come up with a base tune if I replace it with haltech or megasquirt
@hpa101 Жыл бұрын
No, you wouldn't do that and the ECUs are structured very differently. A base tune to just do a systems check (that is all a base tune is for) on a standalone ECU is actually a straight forward process. Because it is a first step for those learning, more fear is around them than there should be. We have videos on setting up base tunes. From there you still need to do a tune like you would anyway, otherwise what is the point in fitting a different ECU if you want to keep it stock right? - Taz.

Is tuning on the track an ideal way to tune if i dont have access to a dyno? Thanks
@hpa1013 жыл бұрын
So long as you don't have a torque based ECU, yes sir! You will leave a little bit of power on the table but can get very close to dyno tune results. Even when you tune using a dyno the last step is to confirm things on the track/street - Taz.

I bought an 08 Lancer DE with an automatic transmission. It was missing the ecus. The guy who sold it to me doesnt know where it is and cant get it. I bought a used one on Ebay. What can I do if the stock image from the ecu of my Lancer from the factory is unavailable to me like this? How do I go about getting that stock rom so I can program this used ECU from ebay?
@hpa1012 жыл бұрын
If you got a stock ECU for the exact same model of vehicle it will have a stock tune on it, it won't come blank. Only standalone ECUs come blank otherwise every car would need to be tuned before it left the dealership. Hope your replacement does the trick, was it running an aftermarket ECU that he didn't include in the sale or something? Odd to lose an ECU... - Taz.

@@hpa101 He said he bought it from some guy who bought it from someone else . No one could get it to start. I'm going to try to reflash it with the open port 2.0 cable i just bought and am waiting on to arrive. After that i'll probably try a starter as I went outside this evening and tried starting it with my scan tool hooked up and the rpms from the crankshaft position sensor were only at 114 rpm while cranking. I had an immobilizer code and had a locksmith come out and program my key and the code went away and hasnt come back. I also vin wrote the vin to the immobilizer, the ecu, and the etacs. I'm not getting fuel or fire. I dont understand why. FLashing the used ecu is kinda my last hope as I have 12 volt in all the right places, 5 volts in the all the signal places, and ground at all the ground places. I have compression I just dont understand why the thing wont start.

I'm doing an ITB build on 03 Lancer which has a USDM 4g94 and the only problem is the ecu. The base ROM of the ecu depends on the MAF which is pretty much useless but luckily the 4g94 has MAP sensor which I'm not using also since it requires large amounts of pressure from the plenum. I'll be using gsxr1000 itbs (with the map sensor) but I will not be using a standalone ecu since the build is intentionally budgeted. I was thinking of using the 4g93 1.8 ROM file since it runs on a MAP based set up and engine wise they are almost identical. Now for the elephant in the room. Is it possible to install the ROM file from the jdm 4g93 sohc to the 4g94 USDM ECU?

Hey guys, need to ask. Do you need to retune the stock ECU if you throw a stroker kit in it? The engine comes stock from the factory in 1.3 and 1.6 variant. The 1.6L variant is just a 1.3L stroked engine.

Is there a way to take a snapshot of a stock ecu settings or values? I dont really know how to word this since I know nothing about tunes, so I will just explain what I'm trying to do. My car seems to run perfect with tons of power and overall is just flawless right after i reset my stock ecu... but over time roughly 2-3 weeks it will start to get slower and slower where it becomes a different car without any noticeable power or performance. What I want to do is copy whatever those parameters or values are in the early stage after i do the reset and move them over to a tune so they are set and never change. My car is completely stock and I'm not going to be adding anything so there is no point in doing a dyno or any of that complicated stuff, so I am looking for the easiest way to tune it based on the fresh reset ecu values. Is it possible to copy values from the stock ecu before it relearns and changes them? Can you copy and set those on a tune or is that not how it works?
@hpa1013 жыл бұрын
You should take it to your mechanic, something isn't right and the cheapest way to solve it would be to tune it, if it was modified. However as you say is bone stock so there is clearly an issue with your vehicle somewhere, a bad sensor at a while guess that is giving your ECU's closed loop systems a hard time. The time and money you will spend on tools and software just to solve this with no intention of getting performance gains or using the knowledge further in the future really doesn't make this work you diving into personally imo given what you have said there - Taz.
