If I had to guess, the little bracket or plate on top the thermostat housing is a heat shield, protecting the temp sensor underneath from the extra heat from the egr cross over tube... in its stock config anyway ;)

Can you install this on an EGR equipped truck?

Hey Tom question for ya, Can you think of any reason why I shouldn't install this without the thermostat in the fleece housing? Edit: Edit: Draw it out, block is where the coolant is coming from, 180 opens earlier then the 190. If you have a hose connected to the cold coolant outside the block you've rendered the t-stats useless and will never reach operating temp. Water pump will flow the coolant in the entire system before any heats up. You need the modulation of the t-stat but the problem is where its located when it fails. I don't see why a full one piece (no cradle for T-stat one solid sealed piece besides the Oring in the head) stock housing plate on the back with an inline T-stat cradle on the braided AN wasn't possible. I think the service ability would've sold over better than the aesthetics of something that looks like an inline fuel filter but for a T-stat.

So one thermostat opens first than the other ? Not much even splitin hot coolant out

What happens if the thermostat goes bad, how do you know, does it get stuck open. Also assuming of the thermostat does go bad can you get to the 3 screws on the fleece to change out while still on the truck.
@j.mentzy2480
@j.mentzy2480 7 жыл бұрын
Brian Farnsworth If the thermostat fails in a closed position, the cooling system will function like stock. Coolant will still get to the rear cylinders through the block itself, it just won't get any from the bypass. Unsure about whether you can access the 3 screws easily, but it seems that it would be the way to replace it, or just pop the whole piece off.

j.mentzy 24 I was told not to use sealant around the o-ring, but tom did?
@j.mentzy2480
@j.mentzy2480 7 жыл бұрын
Brian Farnsworth You don't have to. The O-ring itself is plenty capable of sealing well. Just like the main thermostat housing, it only uses/needs compression on the O-ring on the thermostat to seal it. Personally, I wouldn't put any on the ring itself, but I don't see an issue with putting around the ring on the mating surface other than an unnecessary mess and the chance that some could break off and get stuck somewhere. When you install it, you can feel the O ring pop into place, and it takes some pressure to get it in (not much, but it doesnt just drop in).

Got my bracket off today trans in place... took an hour, and the bolts were not very snug. Makes the bracket seem pointless from factory.. Now I need something to reach that damn freeze plug so I can knock it out

Turba Tom I've got a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins motor it's got a smarty jr. on it set on the tow mode 5 inch exhaust cold air intake the Deep transmission pan and I put the transfer case support on it and it feels like there's less slop in the drivetrain I see a lot of these high horsepower Cummins trucks without that on there and they're having no problem so I probably wasted my money but the way my luck is I'd rather have it on there than not and thank you again for all the good videos you are teaching me a lot so whenever I feel like doing something to mine I'll have a little bit of a knowledge
